Holy shit those are some really huge and high quality route number and destination signs on the new streetcars! My colleagues at SEPTA in Philly are pushing for the same kind of high-dot density LED signs for their new cars. This video really showcases how visible this makes the route designation from afar for riders. Sadly, I was unsuccessful in getting anything close to this display quality for our next LRVs in Boston. Amazing how even Zurich's older streetcars have been retrofitted inside with passenger info screens... 😍
Love your channel! I've realised the importance of public transport growing up, and I hope one day we finally transition to a society that doesn't operate on car-reliance
8:48 Hold the rattlesnake 🐍is out ♥️Better known as Cobra Be 5/6, this new millennium tram built by Bombardier Transport for the Zurich VBZ which will be one of the only operators in Switzerland with (Basel?) 🇨🇭 to acquire this very particular equipment for the period because it was the first tram with a flat floor. A good idea at the origin of the ABB Group consortium, Schindler Group with a design by Pininfarina, but the internal quarrels with Adtranz and its Flexity, since the takeover by Bombardier will delay the release, not to mention the uncertain reliability of this type of equipment. Why this particular choice of the VBZ when the Siemens Combino 🇩🇪 was the choice of other Swiss cities like the capital, Bern. The answer comes from the fact that Bombardier Transportation's tramway was longer than that of its competitor Siemens Mobilité; 88 examples will have been built and generalized on all lines, but without any additional orders. Its successor, if we can call it that, will be the 70 examples of the 0:40 Flexity 2 as part of the replacement of the Tram 2000 4:50 model built between 1976 and 1993 (Be 4/6, Be 4/8 and Be 2 motorized trailer). . /4) the Mirage Be 4/6 trams from the late 60s having been sold to Ukraine 🇺🇦. Finally, Bombardier and Adtranz through Alstom, which bought the Transport branch of the Canadian Bombardier in great difficulty, at the end of January 2021 will have finally succeeded in imposing its design of Boa-type Modern Flexible Tramways. The Rattlesnake rattlesnake is the name given by the inhabitants of Zurich following the misfortunes of the Cobra when it was put into service in the early 2000s.
Many topic tramway hubs in Zurich: Milchbuch, Central, Bahnofstrasse, Bellevue, Stadelhofen ❤ The last one guest the Santiago Calatrava's postmodern railway station and the terminal of the red/cream cars of Forchbahn.
