    I have a silver Diawa 2600C that I purchased in 1978 and with regular maintenance, I clean and regrease every two years, I have never had any problems with it. I paired my 2600C with an Eagle Claw 8' 6" Medium rod for fishing Lake Michigan and now use it for rivers and flood control reservoirs.

      Very nice! The key, as you noted is to service these reels regularly. The 2600 and other silver series reels are tops - Dennis

    I just bought a 2600c
    I had one when I was a kid. 1977ish
    It was an awesome reel back then
    I used it to catch chinook rainbow Lakers pike walleye bass perch and even caught a stergeon
    I hope to do the same this year 2022

      Too many find their way to the trash either because folks don't know where to get them fixed or the cost to repair them if they can find someone. That is one of the reasons why I am doing these videos. If I can show people how to service them and eliminate the cost factor, then more of these reels will go fishing again. You can use the same reel grease on drag washers. There is a speciality drag grease product - Cal's universal drag grease, that I use. but you can get by with the regular grease and you do not need to buy it for a single use. Thanks for asking - Dennis

    I bought one of these at a flea market. The bail doesn't stay in the closed position after being tripped. What should I be looking for there?

    • @2ndChanceTackle

      Sounds like a bad bail spring - I would check to make sure it is not broken before I did anything else.

      Use a small flat bade screw driver to scrape off the hard stuff and then penetrating ol to loosen up the rest before mopping up with a cotton swab or paper towel. Thanks for asking

    Hi Dennis. Great video as usual. I was working on my friend's 2600c and everything went great. The only part I am having issues with is key # 41- anti reverse claw spring. I do not know the proper orientation of this part. I believe it sits under the anti reverse claw, but can't get it to sit properly? Do you happen to have a picture of the orientation of this part?

    • @2ndChanceTackle

    Dennis, I have a Daiwa 2500C that I have restored to all it’s original glory. What is the difference between a 2600C and a 2500C? I have a 7000C, 4000C, 2500C, and two 1300Cs in the Silver Series. I got a kick out of the 1300C reels. They are so beautiful and amazingly strong. I’m looking for a GS9 or a 9000C for the future. I have reels in four of the 1970s Silver Series reels - Daiwa, Penn, Olympic, and as of today - Ryobi. You were still using the screwdriver for grease in this video. I like that as I still do. Steve has a beautiful 2600C. It looks a little larger than my 2500C. You did a great job of this one! I love these reels. --Chris

    just dug out one from a box and tore her apart and serviced her not bad it had grease that was 20 years old in it so its not perfect but back together working with no extra parts....I am going to start taking pics.... I had to come in from my shop and look at a schematic to see how some parts went back... it had the old daiwa black gold design with the bushings and one ball bearing instead of 3 ball bearings....Your right hearing the reel clicker brings back my teen years.....

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are similar, but the materials in the SS series and the case are superior to the 2600C. Since you are fishing a lighter size reel, there is less difference than with the bigger ones. Both are excellent reels - Dennis

    Hi Dennis, The Daiwa 2600C makes a clicks during retrieve. Can this be silenced ? Is it the plastic "hook" in the underside of the spool ? Can I snip that hook off ?

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry - that click is the nature of the beast. It is the anti-reverse dog tapping on the ratchet. The only way to silence that is to disable the anti-reverse. You should have the over-ride on the bottom of your reel. Move the switch and you will not hear it any more. The plastic tab under the spool only clicks when the drag is loose and the fish is pulling line out. It is an alarm to let you know the fish is on. - Dennis

    I have 2 3/4 of these... lots of questions on where to get parts....etc (and yes I rebuilt them am crammed as much grease in there as possible--now I know). Question is:why is the drag-knob self tightening? I take maybe two yards off these spools and the drag is on maximum??

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That shouldn't be self tightening. Is this happening on all of your reels/spools or just one? It sounds to me like the drag stack is frozen or there is broken line trapped inside and wrapped around the axle or some other factor. You should remove and service the drag stack to make sure it is set up correctly. If you have more than one spool, swap it out and see if the problem remains. That will tell you if it is drag stack related or in the reel itself - Thanks for asking - Dennis

    I noticed the play in the spool that you found. I have the same problem with a Ocean Star No. 36 that I have attempted to restore. I told you about it when we were trying to determine who manufactured it. (Daiwa) There was no cause for the spool like you found in this one. The Ocean Star has no bearings just bushings and I finally decided that it was probably caused by the age and previous use of the reel. - it’s age. The gears were in great shape though. If you have any ideas on how to get rid of this unwanted play in the spool please let me know. It doesn’t badly affect the operation of the reel but it does have some bothersome noise with the spool.
    The Daiwa Silver series reels are awesome. As you know I recently acquired a mint 7000C that you helped me to remove the spool for service. They are incredibly durable and easy to use. I really like the fact that you can rotate the reel to snap back an open bail or choose to close it manually - a great feature not found on most modern reels of today. Thanks for another tremendous video.
    - Christopher

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it should be attributed to age and wear. Many bushing widen with use and many cases expand, which causes the slop. Nothing to do there but replace with new parts or live with it. Thanks Christopher - Dennis

    What kind of Cleaner/Degreaser is on your table? When do you use it?

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The degreaser is Purple Magic. I use this for cleaning the exteriors of reels, particularly the side plates on conventional reels and the side plates and spools on the spinning reels. I use a piece of a soft kitchen scrubby pad and the Purple Magic to remove grime, dried oil, fish scales and dirt. It does a great job. If you use this, I recommend that you wear latex gloves to keep the product and the stuff you are removing from the reel off of you hands. - Dennis
