Thanks for doing this. You sold a few games! Phoenix Point, and Showgunners. You have a good voice for this work, and a very good delivery. I appreciate your pacing as well.
Battle Brothers is 50% off. Hands down the best turnbased tactics game I ever played. And I played a frickin lot haha Just don't get fooled by those many pseudo reviews using stock footage. There it looks like you are running around in rags forever. Of course you are not. It actually is a hunt for rare and unique items. A bit like Diablo. Very rewarding. Also don't get fooled by the moans about wild RNG. That's mostly a skill issue.
I've heard a ton of good things about it but have never played it personally. The item thing is something I'd never heard before - maybe now is the time 🤔
@@GridCommander Yeah most "reviews" show stuff from the first hour of the game. Probably bc ppl quit after that. The seemingly crazy RNG comes down to a few simple mechanics (that are not explained by the "tutorial" unfortunately). Hit chances increase with every other brother adjacent to the enemy by 5% each. And: Swords give +10% to hit. Spears give +20% to hit. Both are not very good against armor but the surefire way to reliably dispatch early game trashmobs. Suddenly RNG becomes very easy to manage an the journy to create your band of uber brothers begins
BEST Deals On Turn Based Tactics Games (Steam Summer Sale 2024) on my opinion: 1. Into The Breach 2. Crawl Tactics 3. Fights in Tight Spaces 4. The Last Spell 5. Invisible, Inc. 6. XCOM 2 + War of Chosen 7. Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters 8. Gears Tactics 9. Solasta: Crown of the Magister 10. Phoenix Point
Congrats on this being your fastest growing video btw. I hope it inspires people to actually go out and get these lore niche games like Phoenix Point and Gears Tactics
Another Mention worthy might be "Othercide" even though the group tactics are limited due to your relative small team. It is a small scale turn based squadtactic roguelite that is currently on sale for 5.99
@@GridCommander You can probably eat for a week just making videos of great Tactics based games on Steam Summer Sale lol. Too many to name in one shot.
Showgunners is one of my favorite TTRPGs from recent years. It's not a super long game but it's streamlined and polished. The puzzles didn't blow my mind but it at all coalesced into a really positive experience. Recommend. I was stoked for Wildermyth but the proceduralness just lead me to having no connection to anything. I was bummed. Oh yeah, the title of your last chapter isn't the same as the game you're talking about. Thought I'd mention :)
I was really surprised at how well put together showgunners was! I've had other people express the same feelings about Wildermyth though. That last game has a super long name, IIRC the full name is Warhammer 40k: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters
@@GridCommander a video attempting to differentiate between all the various 40k Tactical RPGs would be 8 hours but a lot of fun! Part of what worked about showgunners was the lack of variety and limited squad size. There was only one build for each character, your "build" for the mission was decided by the side characters you decided to bring. Only the protagonist can directly manipulate the action economy, and every other character is about doing something she doesn't do. Keeps balance in check, makes grinding mostly irrelevant, and ensures team cohesion.
@jonsible Add in all the DLC for all those 40k games and you have another 8 hours 😆 That's a good breakdown of Showgunners - I hadn't considered how well it is actually designed around the main character and balanced to make the experience streamlined.
You should check Cyber Knights: Flashpoint. Is an early access game that receives almost daily updates and improvements and from what I have seen from those developers, they will keep improving it way after the game is released.
I've had it on my wishlist for a little bit - it looks very promising! I plan to give it a shot in the near future. Everything I have seen about it is good
@@GridCommander give ir a whirl. I have no association with them, except as a costumer, but I really got impressed with them. The game is good, I still feel the skill tree is a bit confusing, but is even hard to suggest something when I don´t have a full picture of the whole things they want for the game roles - BUT the roles there are in the game, are all useful and well defined... And enemy IA could be better, but that is really, largely a problem with ALL turn based games or ALL games, really, in strategy games, they mitigate with the IA "stealing" by having bonus resources, etc, we all know that, but in tactical, how you do that? Only by moving and reacting in smart ways, but as a pre-programmed thing, we eventually understand the patterns, and is a truth we see from Laser Squad to present games. The only IA disasters I can think remember, are really non-reactive IAs or "running into a wall" IA, like what happened a few times in Necromunda (and it still is VERY fun to play, because sometimes the IA just WORKS). So, in their case, I just think the IA could be a bit more aggressive, and the system of reinforcements they build, is a good way to keep it challenging anyway. But what, IMHO, makes them stand out more than others, really, is how responsive to feedback they are and how the game improves CONSTANTLY. Is just on another level of DEVELOPER AWESOMENESS. I really appreciate their drive and passion for their projects. Even if I don´t play the game that much, I keep it installed and keep checking the updates. Is pretty amazing to see how they progress.
You sold me on Phoenix Point! Thanks for pointing out Showgunners as well. That is one of my favorite games I played this year.
I picked up Showgunners a couple months ago and was very pleasantly surprised! Hope you enjoy Phoenix Point it's a good one to put some time into
@@GridCommander And for anyone who may still be on the fence despite the deep discount, there is a free demo available as well.

Bought phoenix point, steamworld heist and gears tactics after seeing this. Thanks

Pretty good list, the only thing i would add would be the 2 King Arthur games..
I've been interested in them but haven't pulled the trigger because of some of the reviews. They look pretty good though
Great list! One more to mention from the same devs as Mutant Year Zero is Miasma Chronicles. Also on sale! 😁
Good call! Completely forgot about that one
@@GridCommander You can probably eat for a week just making videos of great Tactics based games on Steam Summer Sale lol. Too many to name in one shot.
Showgunners. The hidden gem.
Just think Running Man.
Exactly!
you forgot xenonauts, which is also on sales.
Xenonauts 1 & 2 are both good deals! I saw them after I had already finalized the video 😔
If you like strategy game I highly recommend you to check Mechabellum.
I bought Showgunner. So much fun 😊
It really is such a well executed game. Glad you are enjoying it!
Love this. Check out The Last Spell. Phenomenal base building and turn based tactics game.
Last Spell is one I've had wishlisted for a little bit. It looks great

great recomendations, every single one of them is a great game
Troubleshooter is a BRILLIANT turn based game. Interlocking game systems, and LOOONG.
Under $10 is a crazy good price for it
@@GridCommander - This game blows the x-com games out of the water. I REALLY like this game.
Sequel is in development, I believe devs said late 2025-early 2026
Divinity Orginal Sins 1 & 2 are also epic choices. Gameplay is tactically deep and emergent.
They are EXCELLENT games! Larian doesn't miss
@@GridCommander Indeed. Personally, my fave devs of all time are Larian and CDPR.
Cyber Knights, if you like Cyberpunk style background.
Had it on the wishlist for a little bit but haven't got to jump in yet. Looks very good!
very well put video got yourself a sub
Thank you!
Wastelands 2 and 3
Wasteland is dope - I tried not to stray into RPG styled games as much though because there's so many to recommend there too
I'm playing Battle Brothers at the moment. Pretty fun.
I've heard a lot of good things about it but have never played it personally. Lots of comparisons to Wartales
Phantom Brigade have summer sale too.
Another good choice!
Bro you forgot Rogue Trader, for real???
I tried to stay with squad tactics style games, there's too many great RPGs video would have been crazy long 😆
phoenix point sucks
I like it. I just don't use the two crappy DLCs. The flying one and the corruption one.
Phoenix point is so boring though
It can be a little more tedious for sure, especially if you are not into all of the systems you have to manage
Never understood how xcom was remotely likable
