Gary has been a fixture in the entertainment scene in the Philippines for years. He is often seen in videos on the judging panels of singing shows, such as the TNT Boys on Y.Face S.Familiar, and KZ Tandingan's appearance on the X - Factor. After judging an X -Factor Philippines competition, Gary became the mentor of Katrina Velarde, who had participated as part of a girl group. She toured as one of his background vocalists, and there is a video of her singing "Spain" with Gary "@ The Town Hall". The song was originally an instrumental written by jazz pianist Chick Corea in the seventies, to which singer Al Jarreau wrote the words in 1980. Gary based his scat singing part upon Jarreau's version, and added his own improvisations.

I love this performance! Very few singers try to cover Al Jarreau's vocals, and Gary V. is the best. The part where he imitates the instruments is called scat/scatting. It's a jazz technique, and Al Jarreau was famous for it. Have you heard of him? He was popular in Europe in the 1970s and won German Echo Awards (like US Grammys) for his first 2 albums.
