      I don't know... Reggie was definitely a more dangerous shooter but would you rather be the GOAT clutch shooter or the GOAT clutch player? Being the GOAT clutch player includes the buzzer beaters and last second shots that Reggie is known for but also includes making plays to put games out of reach so that buzzer beaters are not needed.. It includes defensive plays like the steal that MJ got against NJ in 98 that sealed a playoff win. It means being clutch for the last 5 mins not just hitting a shot within the last 5 seconds. When you look at it that way, MJ is miles away from Reggie and has the rings to show for it.

  • @axlslak
    @axlslak 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    See... this is why even MJ fans respect Reggie. The dude put up an epic fight. But come interview time... we get to see what's behind the curtain. And MJ would be nothing without real competitors to challenge him. And the Pacers was one of two teams to get the Bulls to game 7.
    And I didn't forget the 8 points in 9 seconds. One of the most exciting games I ever seen. And proof Reggie was one of the most clutch players ever. He really pulled a Michael Jordan in that game. But Michael... pulled a Michael Jordan in almost every game... so... yeah. I get the hate.
    And I don't even think it is hate. It's ... look. I don't like being told I suck at my job. I don't like being lazy. I don't like falling behind. So why would basketball players. I guess some do... but not Michael. Not Reggie.
    Michael and Reggie have more in common than people realize. Michael was beaten by his older brother Larry. Reggie had Cheryl. And no, I'm not going to say anything sexist about. Just that having an older sibling to compete with, makes you stronger. And both of these guys had that.

    • @Lootroq
      @Lootroq 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think where fans go wrong, and I had to make this adjustment too, is they don't put themselves in, or really understand, the mind of an *ultra-competitor*. What fuels Reggie to be so great and clutch in big moments is the will and belief that he can not and will not be stopped by anyone or anything. The amount of work required to build the skill to shoot so well, then take that skill and apply it at the highest level in the highest of leverage moments is driven and fueled by that same mindset which *requires* a level of obsession that simply can't be turned off ever completely.

    • @Lootroq
      @Lootroq 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What people don't understand about Jordan is, he applies extreme pressure and fortifies every part that is required for him to blast through any and every object in his competitive path and part of that *requires* him to be very sensitive to ANYTHING that can be seen as a slight, sign of disrespect, or anything remotely resembling doubt or the questioning of his capacity to blast through that object at will and that fuels him to apply even more pressure to the rigidity and extreme intensity of his training in order to achieve that task.
      With that in mind, it makes absolute sense why he and Isiah don't like each other till this day and it damn sure has nothing to do with blown out of proportion walk-off. Jordan used to trash Isiah and Bird on talk shows and interviews as being the dirtiest players in the game before that even happened. If anything, it was Jordan who was the disrespectful one. People act like it was Isiah himself who was slamming Jordan around.

      Back in 1984 professional players weren't allowed in the Olympics.Jordan was drafted by the Bulls but hadn't played for them yet. Because the olympics came after the draft many people say it would have affected the draft rankings after Jordan's olympic performance. But back in the day Olajuwon still might have gone first overall because centres that had his skill set didn't come along everyday and Michael wasn't Michael yet..

    • @Flamangatang

      Olajuwon did not possess the same skill set as a rookie/college player as he did in his prime years. There was no dream shaking going on. He was just athletic and quick. At that time Houston already had 7’4” even more of a freak athlete Ralph Sampson. They were the main team who could have and should have passed on Hakeem. This was before Ralph became injury prone.
      Also That 84 team played against the NbA all stars of the 80s in a srcrimmage and MJ absolutely killed those guys. Bobby Knight witnessed all that

      J
      Well of course no one thought MJ would become the GOAT. That’s not my argument. My point is that MJ clearly could score. He had games at UNC where he flat out took over. There is a reason he was a 2x player of the year (over Akeem and Bowie) at UNC. So while the Rockets already had a 7’4” star in Ralph Sampson, it would have made perfect sense to draft MJ at that time. That was before Sampson became injury prone. If you don’t know who Sampson is, please go look him up. He had the potential to be a top 5 player ever. 7’4 with David Robinson’s game.

      Eh, I dunno. Derrick McKey, largely forgotten and unappreciated in his day, was a tremendous defender who could nearly shut down Karl Malone. Malone might get his 20, but 16 of those would be on fast breaks or when McKey was on the bench

    People have no clue how good hakeem was. No clue? You had to pick him #1 and I'm from Chicago and a die hard jordan fan by far the greatest but picking hakeem #1 was a no brainer. And he had a hell of a career. People forget hakeem went to the finals either his first or second year. They don't run into that 86 celtics team which is famous for jordan dropping 63 on them but got swept. Hakeem has 3 titles instead of 2. And houston kind of dismantled the team after that and he really had no help until the mid 90s whem they won

      MR E yes, I know I grew up in the 80s and 90s watching Jordan destroy my Knicks, hated his guts. But I’m over it. He sounds like he couldn’t take some of the trash Jordan dished out, when he was one of the most annoying players. I don’t hate Reggie, and I think he has done a good job as an analyst, but he did come out as a sore loser in this interview

    • @PepeSifuentes
      @PepeSifuentes 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      W McArthur I respectfully disagree, he said that towards the end, once Dan Patrick made him realize that he was sounding a bit to bitter, Dan even asked if it was something more personal that him and Jordan said to each other (hence my previous comment) and Reggie made it seem like that was the case. Only towards the end he tried to correct himself saying he loved Jordan.
      As far as understanding 90s basketball, I don’t know what you mean. I watched the bulls beat the knicks through the 90s, So I was always heartbroken and bitter at the end of every season. I know about animosity and hurt, granted, I am not a player and my hurt as a fan doesn’t compare as a professional athlete competing, but again, at some point you have to get over it...anyway, thanks for your comment.
