Matt always knows how to keep himself relevant when he's on his own. Thank goodness Tony is a boss open to ideas on this type of stuff. Anywhere else outside of perhaps Impact you are on the shelf.

This match was super good
Matt has always been the better worker of the two. This match really showed off how technically sound both of these guys are, no big high spots, just good, technically sound wrestling from both of them, for a great match.
The match sucked. Be honest, Matts is out of shape. Love Matt don't get me wrong, after all he's done he has every right to be fat. But maybe it's time he gives up wrestling and just manages.

On a mechanical level though, the match was still really well put together. Darby did his best to cover Matt's weaknesses, and wrestled a much more grounded match based on good fundamentals than his match with Jeff.
I think this is probably Matt's last solo run. I have a feeling him and Jeff were gonna win the tag titles before his problems caught up with him again, as one last Hurrah as the Hardys before retiring for good.

@@archivefolds his Impact run was great and even became world champion, his V1 gimmick got way over, his Broken gimmick was phenomenal both on his own and with Bray. even pre-AFO Matt was solid in AEW.
Matt never needed Jeff as much as people think he did. was he better? sure maybe. but neither brother really needs the other to be successful singles stars.
Crazy to think Matt and Jeff debut was in 1994...

If the rumors of Jeff Hardy coming back are true, it looks like Matt and Jeff will try to recruit Darby Alin to form a trios team, call themselves the New Team Extreme and go after the trios championships. Darby could win gold with arguably the best tag team of the 21st century and continue to establish his legacy in AEW.
Imagine that going down because of a sting heel turn and he joins the house of black as the new leader that would be crazy or they both go to black

I got excited for a second; I thought Matt Hardy was going to become the new leader of The House of Black. Hopefully at least this is a big step towards Matt being Broken!
I thought the same thing when I read the title and Matt's aggressive at times but not buddy and Brody aggressive he'd be more of a hanger on and that'd kill the faction and make Matt looks so weak compate to hardy family office where his subtle interferences was enough to piss people off but not to put him in overly extreme violent matches if u notice there's times Matt's barely getting around the ring and I don't think it's a full sell

I'm glad for Darby's health that he's using the Last Supper to finish matches instead of always using the Coffin Drop now. Not only is is it a cool and different way of finishing a match, but It's clearly better on his back, which I'm sure the Coffin Drop has done a number on over the years. He's still so young and has obviously put his body in all kinds of danger already, but that sustained damage to the back (and possibly neck and head depending on the circumstances of the landing) could really start to sneak up on him and we've all seen what that kind of accumulated pain has done to a lot of professional wrestlers in the past, regarding painkillers.

Yes. Darby’s scary to watch sometimes because he does everything with (what looks like) total reckless abandon when it comes to his own safety. He’s not quite 30 yet and all of that is only going to catch up to him faster the older he gets so it’s very good to see him making some adjustments.
Darby is straightedge, I don't see him popping pills anytime in the near future.
Would love see darby given a run as aew champ he deserves it. But him with Hardy boys as a trio would work well. And sting as the trios protector would be good.

I know Sting is a great mentor/professional, but what Jeff did to him in TNA...I'm not sure if Sting would want to put himself or Darby in a similar situation.
Say what you like about Matt slowing down a lot as age and damage catch up with him, but he still gives it his all and he's STILL over. People are still doing the "DELETE!" chant even in a match against Darby, and that missed moonsault was a brutal thing to do to yourself at that age.
That said, I REALLY wish AEW would stop putting major spoilers in the video titles. Did NOT need to know House of Black were going to make a "surprise" appearance at the end of this. But Julia Hart's crazy laugh is downright _eerie._ This isn't the creepy-girly giggle of The Bunny, she cackles like a witch!
With Malakai Black no longer in AEW, the House of Black should just be called the House.

The fact that House of Black remains a thing even with Malakai officially gone makes me think that AEW is confident this will only be a temporary thing and they're expecting him to return once he's recovered.

Darby is great. Win or lose, actually. He's at the level of the Bucks, Omega, Hardy, Rhodes, Lucha Brothers, Baker, Rosa, Moxley, Danielson, Guvarra, Miro, Jungle Boy, etc. IT really doesn't matter even if they lose. It's like they're bullet proof and you just go, well... the other guy just happened to be extra super ELITE that night. I'm glad Matt Hardy bounced back into the thick of things.
