Excellent video as always - And I appreciate you slowly going through the details of how and why - having been away from FM for too long - V16 - and now really wanting to get back into it - I am trying to build a solution employing portals in a matrix form - Ex: 4 sets of seeds with 5 seeds - with each set being a different value(size maybe) - and then displaying the results in a matrix of portals by either working the proper calculation or using the virtual list portal scheme - but this video has helped me get my head better wrapped around the whole concept of portals - And you repeating the whole thing about never duplicating stuff where it isn't needed has made me clean up some bad habits of mine - I think a trip over to the magazine site will offer up what I need - Thanks Matt

Matt, thanks. Please make a video about general concept of relational database and how to think Filemaker way and contexts. Thanks. Great video as you always do.

How can i export the data from Filemaker into excel properly without losing the records formatting ?

    Bug: type error.
The ? mark in the displayData field is shown when a field set as Number can’t show all its content
As your field contains text, you should set it to text.
It will then no more show the question mark, but the text.

Ah. Good catch. Yes, calculated values need to be set to the proper data type. I must have been rushing when creating the file and left it a number when I should have set it to text.

Does a global field still load the data left in single user mode as defaults for each user if shared on a server?

Yes. But only if the global field was populated before the file was uploaded to server. If the global is empty when uploaded to server then it will start empty unless initialized by a script or auto-enter calculation which is somehow triggered.
