2022 felt like a great year for Rollerblading. Some fantastic competition were held including the Blading Cup and FMI. There was incredible skating edits throughout the year. There was collaborations with external brand like Brain Dead, Clarks and WKND Skateboards. Some of the wildest tricks went down. There was innovation, progression rollerblading found itself in Thrasher.
It's only right we reward those who hit the top of their field.

Featuring the likes of Bacemint's Sean Kelso and Colin Kelso. Mesmer team riders Dom Bruce and Martin Danning. The majority of Rollerblading's demographic is old, but that doesn't mean they are not putting out amazing content. Looks at the likes of Sven Boekhorst, Randy Spizer or Jon Julio plus Walt Austin is still as creative as ever.
Austin Paz and Billy O'Neill are not just podcast presenters they have been putting out amazing skate sections and hair styles.
Other nominated rollerbladers include Bobi Spassov, Eguen Enin and Joshia Blee.
There is also a Wizard skating award with nominees such as Junkyu Park, Mike Torres, Leon Bassin and more.

2022 was the greatest year for bladers in a LONG time. Really happy to see the sport adapting and growing . Only time will tell what the future holds 🙌❤

It was like 98-99 all over again... you know... aggressive skating videos replaced BBOY videos at Champs sporting goods (sneaker store) Pacific Sunwear was selling soaps... team paradise was still kicking.
Now we had blades on Ssense blades at zumiez. Complex media discussed Julio and braindead. Nine club joined the fun. We just need a proper blading video game. Problem is as soon as it can be done... someone like Bobi changes how stylish it can be... now we got these powerslide mizou and souls into grinds.... like On a roll would be so out of date ALREADY.

I didn't know who Air Dolphin was, so I had to look him up. He seems like a really cool guy. I think his steez is real. He's just like that.
Yea i think his skate style has been the same for a very long time, i think its the JNCO and flame shirts people don't buy into. Seems a like a super sound guy

But, since there is a separate category for female skater of the year, why is there no male skater of the year?
The fast majority of skaters are male, statistically a male is more likely to win skater of the year, rendering any specific “male” category almost pointless.
@@TomMoyse maybe that’s one of the reasons there are not as many female skaters? Lack of representation within brands and the fact that women have to compete with men for the ‘true’ first prize is probably very discouraging. Also, just because the majority are guys does not make it okay to use the ‘default male’.
@@tomfaj Representation is very important. What would you suggest to avoid a potential “discouraging feeling” of having to compete with men? Who used default male? Chynna was an option to vote for in Skater of the year
@@TomMoyse my suggestion would be to make a clear distinction. If you decide to create a “female skater of the year” category then it does not make any sense to not make a “male skater of the year” category. Creating one without a clear distinction means that you are using the “default male”, you even said it yourself in the previous comment, that it would be unlikely for a female to win that.
Putting the female category at the very beginning of the video also shows a lot how important (or not)that part is. Maybe I am being picky but apart from that section and “most positive influence” category, the only other mentions of women are about a person’s appearance or their behavior in the comments section (both were negative portrayals).
@@tomfaj In this situation there was no “male” and nomination/ were open, Chynna was suggested and voted for as part of skater of the year. Nominations for all categories were completely open. I’m of the thinking, I want skater of the year to be open so as to not stop a female potentially winning it. Yes I said it would be unlikely but it could happen and I don’t want to stop that. The sport is male dominated and they get enough already so I’m not creating a male version of each on top of the open categories. Female of the year was for representation, to have all female nominations, to celebrate the great skating that happened in 2022 and to address the unlikelihood of a female winning SOTY. Female being first was chance, I happened to have that on my screen when I started recording.

The group rollerblading rollerblading on fb never gets any recognition as far as social media. most of these winners share their stuff in that group to an audience of over 40k members.
As in other people talk about it. They defo play a part in the community but it's the community who make it what it is. Big shout out the rollerbladers

@@margoulin81 People just didn’t like the design of the skate. Sure he will come back with a better one this year. According to Martina it’s at least one pro skate each year. I assume people watch because they know the intention and take it for what it is. In this case a joke and reference to pingu.
I’ve made jokes about a lot of people and pretty much all brands. I’ve never out-right said Bobi was rubbish or anything like that. I’ve supported and promoted everyone of his releases since I started this channel. I’ll be doing the same when the Portugal edits comes out as well.
