The Mach X2 is so close to being an absolute BANGER of a shoe. I've had to use some KT tape to protect my achilles in them, but they are so good that I will continue to do that when I use them instead of sending them back. That's how good they are.
Hey Josh, it’s Alex. Since making the video, I took the Mach X2 for more spins, and developed a similar issue on my right foot! I felt the same way: frustrated, because the X2 is otherwise phenomenal. I’ve put them aside until I find a solution… thicker socks?
@@marathonhandbook I went KT tape and wear ankle socks that have the “pull tab” over the Achilles section. Taken it in 2 runs since doing that and they haven’t bothered me. Still debating if I want to do that every time or just take them back. That alone speaks to how good they are.
Nice video, but i dont understand the point system. The points to match up with the number of checkmarks. I'm looking for a race shoe for the Marine Corp marathon at the end of october.
Thanks, Michael! What kind of racing shoe have you liked in the past? These three from the video aren’t necessarily racing shoes - there are many faster (and World Athletics legal) options.
@@marathonhandbook I'm not exactly a world champion so i dont think I need a supershoe. My last marathon was 10yrs ago and i ran 3:56. My goal this time is sub 5hr (I got older. lol). My training shoe rotation is Hoka Skyward X and Saucony Endorphin Speed 4. When i run trails i wear Nike Ultrafly.
Have you tried On shoes? The Cloudmonster Hyper is a bit like the Skyward X, but lighter. And if you want to stick with Hoka, and aren’t married to supershoes, the Mach 6 is a more affordable option.
Reviews need to include categories that are less subjective like arch vs flat foot, height and weight, gender, foot width and thickness, etc. All the categories being judged will differ per your body type and individual feet. I wear men's trainers because as a top heavy tall girl, my body gravity is closer to men's than women's. I also have arches higher than Russel Brand in the 90s, so those steep drops are a dream come true for me, but may not work for flat feet. I also have slightly narrow feet, so many of the shoes let my feet slide around and get blistered and hurt. Many also ride too high up on my feet and ankles because they presume a thick foot and the heel rubs high up on my achilles as opposed to lower down. Overall, HOKA has been the only one that has never caused any blisters, tightens nicely, and has withstood an average 10km/day. Worth every expensive penny, even though I'd really like to pay a little less...😅

🔥 > 💦 (in this one particular case)
@@marathonhandbook haha thanks for adding the humor in the video. I enjoyed it!
