    Great tools that you made to carry your targets and target stand. That stuff gets heavy when you carry it out to 300 yards and 100 yards back and forth. Thanks now i have to make that target stand over Chirstmas holidays.

    Hey Dirty Dan,, Happy Thanksgiving. I like how you have shown how to build carriers for all your stuff, You know as well as I do that taking everything out no the range is a pain if you are not organized. I hate taking my pistol box for bullseye shooting. Lugging around a pistol box gets to be a chore. anyway, Many of us out here belong to ranges and because of liability, they prohibit shooting steel. However, this does not stop the shooter from finding an area where He or She can do so, shooting steel is fundamentally sound practice as group size isn't the goal, Fun is. and that is what gets us all out there on the range in the first place, (You did a Good safety Brief) as well, Gathering us around for a minute and reminding us Never assume that the bullet has a built-in direction safety feature when shooting steel as well. all points that keep us safe and also the spectators. Another Great Vido, Dave.

      What about steel plates and shotguns - like a Mossberg Shockwave 950 ? With both regular 2 3/4 and 1 3/4 mini shells?

    My steel targets don't seem as loud as they should be. Nor do they dance as much as yours. I normally use 9mm handguns on them. I'm using 3/8 thick ar500 targets suspended by 2 chains angled down. I've noticed yours are hanging by only 1 chain. Does that make a difference?

    • @mixup98
      @mixup98  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I also have a few ar500 targets that are suspended by two chains and they don't clank or jump as much as the plates with one chain. Plates that are 1/4" think also respond much better to a 9mm bullet than the 3/8" plates.

    I make my own steel plates out of 3/8 inch mild Steel plates that I sometimes get for free off of construction sites when buildings are being built or remodeled, sometimes the welders will leave pieces of Steel for the contractor or they just won't take them cuz they don't really need them and I ask the Forman Mills running the construction site job if they have any steel that I can have, and I usually get pretty lucky that way 3/8 in thick Steel at least mild steel 3/8 3/8 inch thick can handle anything up to a 45 ACP I did not try 357 mag or 44 mag on it cuz I don't have any but I don't think those would pierce it. Rifles on the other hand size 22 long rifle and maybe 17 HMR, it can handle but anything bigger will either gain or just run through it like it's not even there. 30-30 will make it swiss cheese fast if it's swinging or hanging. Which brings me to my next point, if you shoot your Target in the damn Target stand fall down and the plate is sitting on the ground but still standing up, do not shoot it walk your lazy ass down there pick your target stand up. I made the mistake of shooting it and a 170 grain bullet will hit the face of that plate that is being backed up with the ground and not able to freely swing, guess what you get? 170 grains of splashback LOL and if you're shooting 3/8 inch thick mild steel with an AR that's freely swinging, honestly you'll think you're missing until you look at the steel plate up close because it's moving so fast and at least in that case of 55 grain bullets they are too light to push the plate even so look like they're just hanging and you're missing it but you're actually popping holes right through it LOL with limited income I make targets out of what I can get for free or for at very little cost if your buying steel play brand new just shoot it you definitely have a better income than I do right now because that stuff is expensive LOL

    Thanks for the info. I have an old swingset I'm going to cut up and use the chains for my steel. ha If I need another though, this is a great and easy way to make another.

    You could put a quarter shelter over your target frame and have a nice shelter to hunker down in.
