Payment of car duties is something understandable and confuse clearing agente and the custom. Since we are getting to digital system, I think duties can be' paid on line through custom approval to said banks
if u allow some corrupt officer to circumvent the law and clear your vehicle illegally, you'll be trhe one in trouble eventually but they should be giving the drivers incentives to snitch on the custom officers who helped them in return for leniency if they really want to stump this issue out.
He probably was warned to not disclose the amount he paid, and he foolishly went by the order. The point is if the amount is what is to be charged, he should have no worry to mention it. I see Ghana sinking day by day but I hope we rise now as youth of this great nation not by violence but by the appropriate means to save mother Ghana. God help us and give us the knowledge,the courage so we can stand fearlessly and save Ghana.

There are so many corrupt customs agents. Clearing your goods at the port is like trying your luck, you will never know which amount you will have to pay to get your vehicle. And if you don't pay a obviously crazy high amount, you will not receive your vehicle. Many customs agent do this to claim the vehicle for their own benefit... It is frustrating and evil

DV plates must be abolished. If you buy or want to import a car, you must pay the fees and taxes due immediately. The used car business in Ghana is so holey and absolutely needs to be reformed.
Please they should check the entry if stolen vehicles from around the world because the trace point is area 4 division police to everywhere that has been brought to me.they should stop the bribery and do proper work like opoku ware men.
Most cars came through Togo, my friend also sent s500 from Japan here through Togo to Ghana and he is using in Ghana now, I hope and pray he is not arrested
Ghana is part of ECOWAS so you can ship your car to Togo or Nigeria and drive it to Ghana. That is what some people are doing now because of outrageous duty in Ghana. Ghana needs to do something about high duty.

If you want to be the boss be prepared to pay the cost. No where , again no where in the world are car taxes/duties free. The government needs to ban DV plates. 30 day temporary plates with government issued extensions should be the norm. Or a specialized semi quarterly expired plate in which they pay their duties every 3 months until its paid off. There are people who have been driving with DV plates for years. And you wonder why the government has a budget short fall. Too much freedom and little enforcement has brought us to the IMF. They should focus first on the luxury vehicles and phase-in the cheaper ones giving cash strapped drivers time to pay their duties and avoid eventual repossession.

The port’s probably do not want to have a website where anyone can calculate the duty cost because … something will pass somewhere.
