I think that b-rolls are overrated. I also watched the Quackalope preview and it was so annoying that when he was talking about various components he edited in some b-rolls. I wanted him to show me the components he was talking about. I watched his video two times and I was still confused after.

Hello Alex! As I'm getting to know you better, watching videos weekly, I'm starting to very common trait, board game wise, between each other. I can't wait to back this game. A friend of mine got a copy to review, showed me a few pictures, I read his critics, and the minute he posted in online (in French), he wrote a message to me saying, i know you don't like many limited round games, but you will absolutely love this. After viewing your video and noticing the presence of the game on your table, seeing your excitement, and pros and cons, there's no way I'm not backing this game.
True, I'm a bit skeptical about the 4 rounds, as I love desk/dice/bag building game, and I normally find ways to have them last longer, so I can use my "deck" longer. But, I like the mechanics combination on this one, I like the way your action strength increase, and I want to encourage companies to do more game like this. I'll let you know next year, once I played a couple of games, if the 4 round is really a bother. True, when action become more and more powerful, that extra round might kill the fun. I like game where everyone is affected by the way you prepared it in the previous rounds, but I'm not a fan either when you can score more points in the last round, than you had in all the previous round combined.
Anyway, great presentation, I'm ready for it, can't wait, it "should" be my latest pledge of the year. It's the first year, in my life, that I supported unplayed/unknown games, I did it 6 times... If they are mostly, if not all hits, I'll keep going, and maybe increase the quantity for 2021. :-)

Now I'm jealous. This kinda feels like Dwellings of Eldervale was last year to me. Not in terms of the gameplay, but both were games that looked moderately intriguing, but every time I learned more about them I just got more and more excited about playing them. They went from "oh, maybe I'll check that one out when the campaign launches" to auto-back games. Credit where it's due, the publisher has done a fantastic job teasing out art and info to not just build hype, but give me a good reason for to be hyped. Dwellings was and still is my most anticipated game of 2020, and I wouldn't be shocked if Endless Winter the game I'm most looking forward to next year (which is saying something).

I'm super pumped for this game!! I LOVE engine builders with worker placement and hand management. The fact that there is a bit of area control mixed in is just icing on the cake for me. I can't wait to see what they unlock in this campaign given the quality of the prototype. I pumped for the playmat since I'm not crazy about the puzzle-piece-styled board. I'm assuming this was done in the prototype for storage purposes, but since there doesn't appear to be a path or spaces that can be rearranged to vary gameplay, I would rather have a mat or solid board as those will hold up better with much love and table time. It will also combine some of the various trackers and boards.

Thanks for the review, you might have hooked me on yet another KS. So I'm curious, I happen to be covering the Younger Dryas impact event ~12.8ka years ago that basically resulted in a megafauna catastrophe that wiped them off the face of the planet in a few seconds to a few days due to a variety of possible reasons (disintegration, shock waves breaking all their limbs, flood/Tsunami, conflagration of most of the earths kindling (plants), and so forth. A few people and smaller species survived (probably the ones that had a few nice caves for shelter) and the rest is what we are familiar with today (see prehistory decoded on youtube for a VERY exhaustive review of nearly all the Younger Dryas Impact science research). I would really like to see this event be the event that ends the board game, and perhaps becomes the start of another survival expansion scenario without the megafauna. The Younger Dryas event is so incredibly important in the timeline of human history it would be really great if a game called Paleo would give a nod to it. In particular, what I'm very much NOT interested in is a game that suggested that the megafauna were hunted to extinction which is what the outdated viewpoints suggested. We need to stop promoting that idea through ANY medium and sharing the new discoveries: cometresearchgroup.org/comets-diamonds-mammoths/ , th-cam.com/channels/x11KXwumf5w8J-GdBGKNVA.htmlfeatured

@@fantasiaboardgames808 I finally got a chance to read the rules and noticed your first sentence ""Endless Winter is set in North America during the early days of human expansion, around 10,000 BCE. ". In light of my earlier post I've been trying to figure out a way to weave your choice into the evidence I've observed. the "Endless Winter" that I'm familiar with is from 12.8ka to 11.3ka (or 10,800 BCE to 9,500 BCE) so the good news is that is in your around 10,000 range - fantastic! (immediately prior to 12.8ka there was a warming period -not an Endless Winter) So what is the problem then since the winter would have had another 500 years to go before the Earth rapidly warmed up again when the Sun finally came out behind the frozen sky? Well consider this: "During the American megafaunal extinction event around 12,700 years ago, 90 genera of mammals weighing over 44 kilograms became extinct" So we could imagine then that many, most, or all of the animals you've selected may have been obliterated by the comet strike and its aftermath. Assuming you like your board game title and we stick to the Endless Winter, then I think you have to consider the "about" to be in that 100 year period between the comet strikes dating of the comet strike and the megafauna scientists dating of their extinction. Call it 10,800 to 10,700 BCE still fits in your "around" comment. So basically to fit the title Endless Winter rather than the comet strike being a natural end to your game it is actually a natural beginning to the story of "early days of human expansion". That said, I think its important to note that this early expansion was really a revival of mankind and its survivors of the worst calamity in human history...that this group of people would have been desperate to restore society after being nearly wiped out by the comet strike. Whatever megafuana they were hunting would also have been the last of their kind assuming any of them even survived the impact or its immediate aftermath. Mostly their ecological systems would have been obliterated and they too would be desperate for food. This 100 year aftermath among the megafauna would be akin to watching episodes of the surviving factions in the Walking Dead fighting over very scarce resources (canned goods) and the eventual attempt at resuming a normal society (farming and gathering) minus the zombies of course. I suggest considering the following resources to fill some blanks : th-cam.com/users/AntonioZamora-Carolina-Baysvideos as well as G. Hancock's "America Before". I wouldn't expect you to weave a picture of a comet strike in the background as the "dawn" of civilization nor really change anything since you could thread the needle of the timeline and suggest that you were steering into the beginning of the Endless Winter that Antonio Zamora prescribes to the formation of ice crystals in the atmosphere from the ice sheets being propelled up there from the comet strike and they took 1300 years to fall back to Earth and allowing the sunlight back in for "sudden" warming as they no longer reflected the sun away. The impact itself caused a giant fire aka the black mat but shortly after the disintegration, fire, flood/tsunami events, the earth would have cooled off to fit your title. It is in this darker time that your story/board game takes place. It would have been a terrible to experience the impact event itself but would have set the stage for your early expansion with perhaps a few remaining beasties to fight. I'll be happy to back your game with an all-in and encourage others to do so too. It seems easiest to suggest that the comet proceeded your story than after. thanks for taking the time to catch up with recent discoveries. Not only did these early cultures build megalithic structures but they recorded the comet event on them at Gobekli Tepe; and potentially at least 3-4 sites of astronomical mound sites of interest in the Americas. By the way something known as Halloween Fireballs are seen this time of year in the sky from the very same Taurid stream that is considered a likely source for this comet strike so we can all sit down in couple of years and play Endless Winter eating our spooky candy celebrating our ancient ancestor's surviving the comet strike and rebuilding civilization. Best of luck in your campaign! I suspect you arrived at your title rather blissfully thinking about the Ice Age in general, little did you know that you stumbled into the rest of the story (comet strike). If you were looking to make one change you could consider changing "during the early days of human expansion" to something like "in the immediate aftermath of the Younger Dryas Impact event". Of course you could leave it as is if you weren't comfortable accepting the growing consensus yet. Perhaps in the 25th anniversary edition, you'll decide to update it to reflect an even better understanding of these daunting days. I just appreciate you taking note of it and keeping any eye on it case you find it even more interesting to incorporate into your design.

I mean, i am concerned if after like 5 plays, everyone will take one approach/strategy on this game, as clearly, it is more benefitial .. I’m confused by how TGG can offer preorders for KS games that haven’t even opened their pledge managers, yet, such as Endless Winter. They also offer discounted prices in comparison to the KS.
As a customer, I am hesitant to pull the trigger on ordering KS games from TGG.
What if I order a pre-order KS and they cancel my order or refund me for some reason? It seems that there have been a lot of complaints about orders not being shipped and refunded instead.
I wouldn’t want to miss out on the KS version of the game that I could have pledged for during the campaign.
What do you think of the fact they have 8 pages of KS games with marked down prices for KS that haven’t closed their pledge managers or have yet to be delivered?

Do designers all get together and decide what the key game mechanics are going to be for the year together? Dune, ruins, and now this.... Though this game looks the best of the three.

@@BoardGameCo That's one thing I don't feel comfortable with these KS hypes. If I find some influencer telling me how great an upcoming movie is, I am sure I would still remember what that person said while I am watching that movie in the cinema, but this is so not the case for boardgames on KS, or everything on KS. which sucks on both sides: I am hyped but I cannot get the game; when I get the game I will be more hyped for other newer games.

  • @NemoMangelk

So I went to check this out due to the hype. And I checked the Kickstarter to see the testimonial and, do you think it is ironic that your testimonial looks to be the kind you yourself are critical of? It doesn't say much about the gameplay or quality, just mentioned your hypeman phase

    • @BoardGameCo

Looks really interesting, but I’ll have to skip this and Arnak. I’m not going to play a game including idol worship.
I know it’s a large part of a lot of cultures but I’m not supposed to be worshiping idols other than the one true God, so I feel a personal conviction not to be pretending to do it either.
Other than that the game looks amazing!
