This ^ I don't listen to much music anymore in general... not a commentary on modern stuff... just lack of time... lifestyle... whatever. Every now and again I get one of these You Tube "reaction" videos with something I remember and pop it on... I completely forgot how awesome this album was... and how often I listened to it as a youngster. Really visceral reaction for me.
I was 13 when this album came out. I listened to "Comedown" over and over. To say this album was influential on my life would be an understatement. This album and Live's album Throwing Copper ("I Alone", "Lightning Crashes") were the main albums that got me to start listening to Alternative Rock. I had mostly listened to Rap, R&B, and Pop prior to that. It opened up a whole new world of music to me. I even learned to play guitar because of this and went on to be in a band myself for many years. Long way for me to say it, but yes I agree that this album is perfect and "Comedown" is definitely one of their best songs (I refuse to pick just one, lol).
LOVE BUSH. Great band. Gavin Rossdale is a great singer. That album, Sixteen Stone, and the next one, Razorblade Suitcase are 2 of my favorite albums of that era.
Spot on. Hype chill. This was our junior high, 7th grade, weight training day, football practice music. The coaches blasted this in the old ass black mold infested field house. 👊🏼👍🏼😎
Here's my interpretation of the lyrics: This is about a person that has chased material things their entire life. Their top priority was to achieve high status within society. Their 'machinehead' is reference to being a part of the societal machine. Living their life based on what society portrays as success like having an expensive car, high-paying career, big house, tons of followers on social media, etc. Bascially having the best stuff is the goal, but they soon realize that material things don't always bring happiness and purpose. Then they have a sort of awakening as they get older. The line 'deaf, dumb and thirty' is signifying they've come to realize that there's more to life than money and status. They shifted their thinking from 'green to red'. From a 'go go go' mentality to just enjoying the ride. Maybe there was a women that helped them slow down and spark this new mentality (I felt you like electric light). That's just my thoughts on the lyrics. I'm a fan of 90's artists like AIC, Bush & Nirvana that have ambiguous lyrics because it's up to the listener to interpret what they means. It helps you connect with the music and hits you in soul. Cheers!
...I'll bet you get a ton of replies "Bush is not Grunge!!"...People are really cautious up in the "Grunge "label...Who the fu&k cares? ,,Its great music
Bush's first three albums were all just phenomenal, IMO. When you get to Cold Contagious and Greedy Fly though... man, they were just absolutely killing it.
And then they find Gavin Rossdale, easy on the eyes but his voice is even better. "Glycerin" or "Everything Zen" next please, personal fav "Comedown!!" Anything Bush especially off of Sixteen Stone, I'm down!! 👍🏽❤
The look on Brad’s face when Lex asked his take on lyrics 😂 guys, Bush was one of my favourite bands when I was in 4th grade. I remember doing a project on them in school. Please react to more Bush. I’d recommend you do Comedown next. Great reaction 🙋🏻♀️👏🏼👍🏼🙌🏼💜🇨🇦
Sixteen Stone is a fantastic album. Listen to all of it. Great songs. "Body" was not a single from the album and just heavy and awesome. "Everything Zen" I believe was the first single and it's mid 90s perfection. "Little Things" is all the grunge bands in one British alt rock song. And of course "Glycerine" made them rock stars.
Bush is too often underrated, they were everywhere in the 90's. Hit after hit. And Gavin Rossdale is great! And he was married to Gwen Stefani for several years, giggity! 😁
I used to write thousands of lines of code on my computer when I was a teenager listening to this album on repeat... memories Sixteen stone is bush's best album by a longshot, every song, is amazing
Yep. this song has been used a lot in highlight reels and sporting events. It has a ton of energy and gets you going. Ironically a music producer told Bush after listening to their album Sixteen Stone that there was no hits on it. Boy was that guy so wrong.
This song has been in a lot of movies, but I know it was in "Fear" with Mark Wahlberg. "Comedown" by Bush is also in that movie. I remember when the "Sixteen Stone" album came out....it was an instant classic.
Love me some Bush! Saw them in concert about 5 years ago, and Gavin was so cool, all over the amphitheater, even up near the grass area, and didn't seem at all concerned about his safety, I've never seen someone interact with the audience that much. One of their newer songs - The Sound of Winter - is my favorite, it's not at heavy as this, but the lyrics are amazing.
If you liked this, check out: Bush "Comedown" - actually, Bush has a bunch of great songs to check out from "Everything Zen" to "Glycerine" and probably a few others I'm forgetting right now; just don't bother trying to make sense of the lyrics... sit back and absorb the sound.
Bush Glycerine MTV Spring Break Rocks 1996 --- A must watch. One of the most memorable music performances I've seen. After being told not to perform because of the pouring rain, Gavin Rossdale walks out with just his guitar then pours his heart out for the fans.
Back in the day Gavin was killing it on every level. This amazing album came out in 1994 and a few years later he married my 90's crush, Gwen Stephanie. Had me jealous AF, lol...

So lucky to have grown up with so much great music!!.....and no cell phones!!
After everyone got past the fact that Bush has the best looking dude singer ever, we all realized this debut album was INCREDIBLE. At least 4-5 songs that will be classics forever.
They have some pretty awesome tracks check out the following: Letting the cables sleep Greedy fly Glycerine Comedown The chemicals between us Everything zen Alien Ex girlfriend Little things Swallowed
If you haven't done Glycerin, or Everything's Zen, I highly recommend. If you're looking for hard-hitting, interesting, melodic 90's Alt Rock with some grit, look no further. Oh, and the singer married Gwen Stefani back then. They were rock royalty for a minute. Peace ✌️
This is one of the best driving songs of all time. Nothing like crushing a 2 to 3 gear shift at 7500 rpm with this on at full blast. It makes even a slow car seem fast.
Glad to see someone react to Bush. My kids went to college and left this cd. It became mine. In fact, I got a speeding ticket one day listening to this very song. It’s not a chill group for me, I guess!
This was used at football games for kickoff for like 20 hrs. But I love watching You, incessantly try to understand the lyrics. They are stream of consciousness almost like add lyrics a lot of times they are abstract.
You’ve probably heard this on shows and movies. For some reason, one that pops in my head is “An American Werewolf In Paris”. Early 2000’s. But it’s been in loads. Was a really popular song.
Love your lit hat Lex. Happy you enjoyed the video. My best friend is best friends with gavin rossdale the Bush singer. I was lucky enough to meet him back stage and he's a really nice guy. Hope you can react to more Bush songs!
Love watching you guys; you are authentic and open to most everything. Lex... you are a woman after my own heart... with every song .... when that breakdown comes... you are jammin!!!
First time I saw Bush in concert was (I'm fairly certain) Union Station Indianapolis, St. Patrick's Day, 1995. I remember the radio station hosting the event was handing out "leprecondoms" to attendees. I got stuck in the crowd right in front of a bank of speakers. Thought I was going to go deaf. My right ear was sore the rest of the night and most of the next day.
Bush got so much shit for being "fake grunge" and helping push the polished commercial grunge sound (and hey, I get it), but in hindsight, they hold up.
I always took this song as an ode to his guitar. Guitar tuning pegs have been referred to as machine heads. I felt like he's singing about his obsession for music specifically playing his guitar while letting his other obligations suffer. "Deaf, dumb thirty. Starting to deserve this" makes me think that he's saying he's older now and starting to deserve his relationships falling apart due to his addiction to playing. I dunno. That's how I felt when I played guitar, at least. It was obsessive for a while. My soul spoke through it, however bad it sounded. Lol
I always thought this song was just gibberish. I recently found out about the part of the guitar called the machinehead and then it all fell into place. Even the green to red bit referring to the little light when you tune up.
I remember when these guys were BUSH X. That's because here in Canada, we already had a band called BUSH(70's Rock Band). But in 1997, Gavin Rossdale reached an agreement with Domenic Troiano(Canadian BUSH band member) and they were able to use simply BUSH in Canada as well. \m/
Your first time hearing Bush and you chose my favorite song! I love you for that! This has such a great groove to it. Bush is a very diverse band, so I hope you check out something else from them. Greedy Fly is different, but also a cool vibe. And Glycerine is haunting if you’re in the mood for something slower. Great band!
Bush started in 1994 and this debut album 'Sixteen stone' sold 6 million copies in the US... 'Machine head' was used on ads an was on the soundtrack of the movie 'Fear' w/ Reese Witherspoon... Bush singer/ guitarist Gavin Rossdale brought the band to fame from England... however, many felt they were like 'UK version of Nirvana'. When the Nineties ended, Bush sounded dated in 2001 w/ their 4th album 'Golden state' becoming a fail... the band broke up in 2002. Rossdale reformed Bush in 2010... but he's the only original member. They did have great recent single - 'Bullet holes' 🔥🔥🔥
Oh man, I was a big fan of Bush back in the day. Used to just play Glycerine on guitar over and over, lol! They were cool for when you want rock...but also chill at the same time, hahah. Also funny Lex mentioned vampire movies...because Bush DID have a song in a werewolf movie lol! American Werewolf in London, or something. I always forget the correct name of it.
"This is like a hype chill song" never heard a description of bush put so perfectly lol
