    Something to remember for future builds: Soviet city planning put a LOT of emphasis on public spaces; Parks, Plazas, you get the picture.

      @@Akruas it's the same for all Eastern European cities. City Beautiful made a wonderful video on 'soviet' planning and it could certainly help you if you want to go that way with the storyline.

    • @Akruas
      @Akruas  2 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      @@razvansamoila The guy literally says in that very video how not every single city, especially in different states of USSR had the same style. And Central Europe was not even in USSR. It's simply not true that the whole eastern block cities were the same.

    • @dragonbornexpress5650
      @dragonbornexpress5650 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Akruas. I mean it more in the sense that the Soviets still run things at this time. Remember that you already had Altengrad around the area that would later become the Eastern Bloc, and the Warsaw Pact was formed by the Soviets during the Cold War as essentially their version of NATO except they would ultimately control countries such as Poland, East Germany, etc. By that knowledge, wouldn't Altengrad logically be in a similar position as, say, Poland? You even had Soviet tanks running in the city during the World War II video, and I'm pretty sure the Red Army didn't go to somewhere like fucking Denmark during that time. Therefore, logically speaking, a lot of the city planning for Altengrad going forward would be very much in line with places such as Estonia, Czechoslovakia, Poland, list goes on. Is that not correct?

    This is the first and only video I've ever seen from you but I'm blown away by the detail and realism level. It looks and feels so spot on for period accuracy, I can visualize similar industrial areas now that have faded into disuse over the years and go yeah that's accurate for how it would have been done back in the 40s. I guess I'm gonna have to subscribe

    I don't know if this is what you're going for, but I think it would be really cool if you did something "Stalinist" since I know you said this was going to be behind the iron curtain. In the early 1950's, there could be some monumental avenue built like "Stalinallee" in Berlin (or similar examples in Minsk or Kyiv), or some monumental building project like the Palace of Culture and Science in Warsaw. Just a though, but it could be completely opposite of what you are planning.
    Awesome, series, glad to see some new episodes again!

    In my opinion the history of Altengrad looks like this:
    Altengrad is placed in Chechia, where rivers of Vltava and Elbe merge. In reality city of Melnik lies there, but in this timeline it was founded by German colonisers, and that's why it has German name. It was pretty small city until the Prussian-Austrian war in 1866 when city of Usti nad Labem was destroyed. Altengrad was untouched and majority of people fleed to city, making it double its population until just 1875. When WWI broke out, Altengrad was inhabited by around 100 000 inhabitants, but the real growth came when Czechoslovakia was founded. In 1922, part of Sudetenland was given autonomy, and Altengrad (even if it was not part of Sudetenland in reality) became its capital - that's why there are parliament buildings. Also, when in hills around of the city iron and coal was found, steel mill and heavy industry was developed in Altengrad. City was attracting more and more people and in 1938 it was 300 000 inhabitants. In 1938 Altengrad, just like all Sudetenland, was annexed by Germany. During the war it was major industry complex and army supplier, until in may 7th was captured by Polish and Soviet forces. After the war, Germans left the city, which became part of communist Czechoslovakia.
    That's all what we have now. I wish to see more episodes and I love your videos @Akuras!

    I think there should be a small mountain made of war debris. I live in Dresden, Germany, and we have something called a " Trümmerberg" here, which translates to " debris mountain". It would be cool to see something like that in Altengrad.

    I know you said to contribute ideas for the future of Altengrad in Discord, but I am not on Discord, so I hope you don't mind them here.
    1. How about a large war memorial in town near the river? A tourist site. New, larger hotels would be needed, more restaurants and sidewalk cafe's?
    2. A new, larger railway station or even a small airport for international travel?
    3. A new university and related infrastructure in a effort to focus on learning and progress in the wake of the war? This may lead to more cultural sites such as opera houses or ballet theaters, libraries and museums.

    • @Akruas
      @Akruas  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      1. 1950s, hotels later
      2. Probably won't build new stations, but expand existing ones 1980/90s
      3. University planned for multiple decades, starting 1960s probably
