Great breakdown Blake. I agree with you on just about everything you said. One thing I keep thinking every time I watch Jake’s first interception is that it reminds me so much of Jaren Hall’s pick vs ASU in 2021. In both cases, you just need to go down. I don’t think Retzlaff is as good as Jaren was, but I think it just goes to show that sometimes even good QBs make dumb throws. I also like what you said about how Jake functions well in an up tempo offense, especially in short clock situations. I think Arod excels as a play caller in those situations too. Perfect example is the Cincinnati game last year where we had 3 and outs the whole first half until the last drive where we went like 80 yards in a minute. I agree it would be interesting to see Jake play in some up tempo offense even when it’s not a late clock situation.
Its funny you meantion the Jaren Hall throw. Levi and I were talking today and he brought up the exact same thing. Jake loses the benefit of the doubt because he turns the ball over so much.
On the fumble, Connor Pay said the mistiming was his fault. Jake still fumbled but the mistiming is on Connor Pay. He said it was supposed to be a handoff to Cody
