Yes the research positions will be paid. You may be able get in with no USMLE but the expectation is that you will be doing clinical work and also have USMLE. All programs which have ACGME accredited fellowship or residency or both can offer alternate pathway but that does not mean every one will. Sir, I tried applying for a research fellowships & they or most of them mandated USMLE. Can you suggest any positions where LoR & home country MD is sufficient for research fellowships ?
The standards required by American Board of Anesthesiology is very high. It is mostly about finding a hospital that can sponsor the position. It is unlikely a candidate will be competing with other candidates but more so depends on how strong the candidate's background and CV is
@@AnesthesiaGuru Thanks alot Dr Lyer. so apparently with great C.V it's Achievable, do you think having a disastrous medical school transcript with multiple failures will make it impossible to get one of these seats because it happened to a friend of mine in Canada after agreeing on academic position they were impressed with him but after seeing his extremely bad grades they apologized and didn't appoint him. Really sorry but your advice would be much appreciated thanks again!
@@doodmood326 I have not personally come across a similar situation. However, I think if the candidate makes up for the shortcomings with good qualifying exam scores and is excelling in whatever they are doing after medical school to grow their CV, the programs may look up this as positive growth..

Thank you for the video. Can you please explain what is a faculty clinician in the USA? is a faculty clinician allowed to provide anaesthesia services or is it only a teaching role? I want to explore my options entering through clinician educator pathway but this requires us to be already working in the USA as a faculty clinician it says on the ABA webiste. Also while we work as a clinician educator would we be working as a resident or an attending especially those who have completed training from UK, Singapore, Australia?
I mean faculty as a generic term for a physician affiliated with a university. Before a person is a faculty they are typically a clinical anesthesiologist and faculty in this context is an additional bonus with a university title like assistant professor, associate professor etc. While working as a clinician educator pathway the alternate pathway candidate is not considered residency. This applies to candidates irrespective of the country of training

The 4-year plan can be 1 or 2 years of research and 2-3 years of faculty. Another option - if there is a need to continue clinical skills is to be an advanced fellow with clinical + research time for 1 or 2 years and faculty subsequently. Happy to share what i know :)

Dr. Reddy, i am good thank you. This is how i would approach your situation. Take a step back and think why you want to go to USA, for a fellowship or to settle in the USA. Lets say you want to do a fellowship and go back. Then you can complete the USMLE step 2 get ECFMG and then apply for a fellowship. After this options are 1. return back to Karnataka or India 2. Do Residency Lets say you want to do residency. Then you still have to do USMLE Step 2 get ECFMG certification. Apply for residency or do fellowship and then for residency. Honestly, the research and fellowship pathway in the alternate entry path program is very competitive and with one publications and may be a few more in the next few years may not pull you up significantly. This is based on my analysis of what you are saying not seeing your CV

Hello sir am an ophthalmologist, completed ny residency and fellowship in India,currently located in Washington with H4 visa with EAD ,so can I try this in my branch, because am not planning to take usmle we might relocate to India in next 4 years so am looking out for options without usmle
USMLE is mandatory for clinical work (sure there are exceptions for very experienced IMGs)! Without USMLE, the options is limited to research side. If the long term plan is not to be in the USA, then you could even start with voluntary work and then try to transition to a paid job. Other option is industry - worth a try! Can you please also give an indication of likely salary during the 4 years of AEP pathway? I know fellowship salary would be 60-80k roughly which could be tricky to live on for a family in some states, if you work as faculty is the salary higher? Thank you Dr :-)
When assuming the role of a fellow, the compensation will correspond to the fellow salary. Conversely, when taking up the position of a faculty member, the base salary will align with that of other US trained faculties, which notably surpasses the fellow salary

Hello sir am an ophthalmologist, completed ny residency and fellowship in India,currently located in Washington with H4 visa with EAD ,so can I try this in my branch, because am not planning to take usmle we might relocate to India in next 4 years so am looking out for options without usmle
USMLE is mandatory for clinical work (sure there are exceptions for very experienced IMGs)! Without USMLE, the options is limited to research side. If the long term plan is not to be in the USA, then you could even start with voluntary work and then try to transition to a paid job. Other option is industry - worth a try!

Can you please also give an indication of likely salary during the 4 years of AEP pathway? I know fellowship salary would be 60-80k roughly which could be tricky to live on for a family in some states, if you work as faculty is the salary higher? Thank you Dr :-)
When assuming the role of a fellow, the compensation will correspond to the fellow salary. Conversely, when taking up the position of a faculty member, the base salary will align with that of other US trained faculties, which notably surpasses the fellow salary
