North Westerner here. Looks like this one is coming straight over my house. Hate it when storms hit during the night. Every bang and crash imagined as roof flying off when lying in bed.
The winds need to be 'sustained' for one minute to qualify for a Cat 2 rating on the Saffir-Simpson Scale. Otherwise it is just a gust, but it looks as if those winds will be sustained for a lot longer than one minute.
❤ Bless! It's scaremongering by the Weather people. A bit windy, with occasional blustery bursts. Worse in Scotland, but calming towards Friday morning. See. How calming is that? Come back and see if I'm right. 😂
I love the storm naming system and warning levels. It's easy to understand and therefore easier to know when to make preparations, like properly securing stuff in the garden so stuff doesn't fly off and injure someone else and making sure I've got enough batteries, food etc incase there's a power cut. Thanks.
Just looked at sky scanner Quata airway New York to Doha currently cruising at 665kts while air Kenya going to New York in roughly the same place currently cruising at 335kts. Same plane type but shows the strength of the Jet Stream over the Atlantic
My front garden is still a quagmire of soggy mud, so more rain is not helpful. Thanks for keeping us informed Alex and your wonderful team there in the Met Office.
In Brecon south wales it’s pretty grim wet and windy and pretty dark for this time of the morning. So safe to say we can expect more of the same in the next 36 hours…
The 11.00am system passing over Torquay this morning was ferocious ! It had everything, it even cut off my dab radio signal, lol. I wasn't expecting this huge thunder and lightning event.
Storm Eowyn got its name after the Dutch weather forecasting service held a public event where people could submit suggestions. So to answer your question the public did on this one
I thought it was the transition from the El Niño to La Niña? I could be wrong, but that's what I took from a video I watched yesterday. What you said makes sense though, but I haven't got a clue.
Thanks Alex 🙏🏻 excellent as ever ☺️ about in the middle of the predicted path 🤔 sorry it didn’t go further North for the poor folks in its path 😢 stay safe everyone 👍🏻🌀

Winds in excess of 95 mph equate to a Category 2 hurricane. That's what is forecast to arrive here in the west of Ireland by 6am tomorrow.

Me and my wife going to Blackpool today for a few days so looking to see how it works out,. Definitely going to get some real strong winds.

Looks like we'll be avoiding the worst of it in Oxfordshire, but that doesn't mean I won't be making sure everything is secure. Stay safe folks!

Tradition has it that you tell us, 'If you've heard that there is a hurricane is coming, well, don't worry, there isn't!'
;)

The Irish Met Service declared a red weather warning for this ages ago... why the delay in appropriate red warning for Northern Ireland and Scotland?

Thank You, Alex. Better trim the mainsails and batten down the hatches! 😊
Air travel will almost certainly be severely disrupted too

Could these amber zones be updated to red such as populated areas like county durham in amber zone?

Storm Eowyn got its name after the Dutch weather forecasting service held a public event where people could submit suggestions. So to answer your question the public did on this one
@@tamrielspirit3285I'm surprised we didn't end up with Stormy McStormface.

Do you think the migration of the magnetic North Pole speeding up is causing this erratic weather?
Possible
I thought it was the transition from the El Niño to La Niña? I could be wrong, but that's what I took from a video I watched yesterday. What you said makes sense though, but I haven't got a clue.
