i seen rick live and the man put on a hell of a show he was a real artist he wrote arrangedand produced all of his music and played most of the instruments he was the truth
If you lived through Ricks music during the height of his career and danced in the clubs of the 70’s and 80’s , consider yourself BLESSED! He was the epitome of Funk! 🎼
Damn sure is. The handclaps, the oom pa pas, the oh ooohs, everything. I wish there was A longer version. Good music. And I miss the days when acts wore outfits like in this video. And I know this is A performance video, but they're jammin' like A muh-fug.
I miss the 80s! Seemed like everybody got along and music always brought us all together! I remember my older sisters playing Rick James while cleaning the house on Saturdays! Good times! There will never be another!
I grew up on Rick James but now that Im older, I gotta great respect for his music and the band!! This man mixed funk added a hint of rock with a sprinkle of symphony. This man was genius!! Thank you Rick...RIP🙏🙏🙏
I've never seen so many sequins and sparkles in one place. These fella's are legendary kings, What an amazing time, and the partying, fashion, and ALL the unmentionables...just WOW !!!
Mr James , the man who coined the term “Punk Funk!” His worst song is better than anything on the charts today. Rest In Peace Funky Music Making Man!!! 🙏🏼
This song is fascinating when you really put your ear to it. The rhythm carries the melody throughout the entire song. Yet it's never repetitive or overbearing. There's a lot going on within the instrumentation as well as the vocal performances in every section of the RICK JAMES smash hit song. No part is exactly the same. Everything in this song just seems to totally click. Great composition and recording. It's a masterpiece of our rich BLACK music culture
It's a trait I picked up on when I started listening to some Rick James more seriously. His music is so catchy on a superficial level, but if you're really sitting there listening, you pick up on so much little detail and nuance. Truly a musical genius.
Yes. His genius is/was DIVINE-of our grand creator. HE NEVER had to mess with LUCI-I know he knows this now. And when the EARTH is cleaned up, like JC cleaned up HEAVEN, I just know we will see his genius again.
As a white dude id just like to say... Hell yeah 💪 stone citys rhythm n beats are off the goddamn chain stone cold badass!! Shit gets funky on another level legit.. been part of my everyday soundtrack for years.. id like to see someone stay still while this is jammin'... its goddamn impossible when equipped with a human soul 🙏 thank you...
Funk lives onI! I love it when the keyboard player winks his eye and the drummer who has written on his arm *hi Mom". Oh how I miss Rick James,he was such a talented man.
Just because someone used a sample from music someone actually composed, doesn't mean its rap. And to answer your question, early rappers used alot of funk, disco and funk pseudo-rock as samples in their beats. This particular song was used in MC Hammer's "Can't touch this" I believe. Same thing with Biggie smalls, he used a lot of 70's funk in his samples. "Hypnotize" is a perfect example
Maan I Got "RICK JAMES" On Repeat, The Man Was a Musical, Singing, Guitar Playing Genius, In His Own Right, "George Clinton, Godfather Of Funk, Bootsy Collins, King Of Funk And RICK JAMES, The Prince Of Funk!!!"
Don't be so hard to get!!!! Man, my generation need to respect Rick Janes he's a fucking legend they should put his music on the radio i'm tired of the same shit over and over
I'm kind of surprised that this song was not as popular...it's classic Rick James and his style was so unique..my fav is Big Time ..seems to fit his life...then I like Hard To Get and Super Freak. RIP Rick ...glad I rediscovered the music of my young years
My late aunt turned me on to rick when I was a child and when we use to travel out of town she always had that rick james playing in her car and I'm 41 and still listening to rick james his music puts me in a another world
im a 40 yr old honky ass mechanic from south jersey and I been listening to rick, ray Charles, james brown, gil heron, funkadelic, slave, mandril, johny guitar and too many others to list every day for many years now and I've noticed most of the time good music like this will put jive ass funky in yo step EVERY GODDAMN TIME! 👍especially while doin my wheelman thing.. keeps me cold as ice
Because it's cheaper to buy someone's music, sample it, and play it. There's no thought in today's stuff and it's from the past - it's been done. Yawn at this generation. There are good artists now but not that many:( Class Dismissed.
Only certain dudes can have glitter on their skin and in their hair and take your girl and give you music in return that will make you dance and find another girl. Rick James LEGEND.

Rick is so underated..this song is the shiite. 2019

Furst time hearing and i played it for 15mins
I feel like the musical elements are too similar to super freak to immediately follow up that smash hit with this song
This song is way better than superfreak

what does rick james have to do with rappers ? :/

Actually, I retract the statement of MC HAMMER. It's Super Freak that he used, the keys and bass are just very similar.
