you are a rock star! my grandmother took up painting a few years ago and BOY she was very much not artistic. it was hard for the family, because we wanted to be honest, but also not break her heart, but for a while they were... just really not pleasant to look at. BUT!! she kept at it, and has been painting consistently for a while and nowadays, her paintings are incredible. you would think she has been painting her entire life! she is super inspiring to me, and I just wanted to share because it is true that it's "never too late". I am taking it up now in my 30's, and it's very difficult (currently still struggling with water to paint ratios). please keep going, and if you ever get down, come back to this video for the basics and some inspiring words! ❤

Our handwriting changes every few years, and I wonder if the same thing happens with our painting style . I can definitely notice that your painting “handwriting” has shifted since you started changing up your supplies. Your strokes are more like twigs as you poke at the paper. It looks like you’re re-discovering your love for painting!

First of all, the brush tips should not be only thing that mixes the colors on the mixing platform, use the entire brush to properly get it soaked with water and mixing pigment. The paper wasn't wet or mentioned prior to applying the blue pigment. Plus, the brush was too large for small mixing area, and not enough of the premade mixture was made so dipping into pure pigment then applying up higher where the color should be lighter means having to go over the paper more and compromising the paper. If a person tests their paper, they can get anywhere from 5 to 7 strokes then paper will show signs of shredding. Remedy by making more mixture, a larger well for mixing, more water. One can go crom top down method as gravity allows paint to move downwards taking color downward so easier to do that rather than go lighter and upwards. Learned that in college watercolor class. Size of brushes matter too. To cover area faster with open time wet on wet its good to use large brush you did then smaller for after firat glaze then smaller brush for 3rd course of doing details. So brush size here was good, just not mixing technique. Many beginners make mistake of using only tips of brushes to mix then apply. Load the brush not just the tip.
