      Just finished it and right now it's so timely . Just as Russia finally turned away ,,in 1991 from communism,the United States is now embracing it...this book should be a warning....too bad too many in the US no longer are able to read

      @Richard Vezzani Exactly. Solzhenitsyn was instrumental in the collapse of the Soviet Union and Marxist-Leninism. America has got a Marxist problem on the left, but they don't know history, only utopian dreams.

    I miss Reagan. FYI, the minuteman is still the only land based ICBM in the USA. Early 1960s design. The brightest spot is in submarine launched missiles, our subs seem to be able to conduct multiple war patrols before serious dock time is needed. Russian submarines have a tendency to conduct 1 to 3 war patrols, then sit in drydock for years. MAD does not prevent conventional wars, it actually encourages them. I lived through this. I was young, but my parents built a tornado shelter in the backyard, it doubled as a fallout shelter.

    • @TrapperAaron
      @TrapperAaron ปีที่แล้ว

      The u.s. doesn't really need land based icbms. Why fly a missle halfway around the world to attack a target when u could sit a few hundred miles offshore and deliver war heads in seconds instead of almost an hour.

    • @Дмитрий_Тихомиров
      @Дмитрий_Тихомиров ปีที่แล้ว

      What a horror! Your parents built a shelter in the backyard! How you were intimidated by anti-Soviet propaganda, and everyone had to take care of themselves, save their family!
      No one has built personal shelters in our country. The state took care of us. The state built shelters for the population, periodically (1 time a year) checked the operation of the "Air Alert" signal in cities. At each enterprise, in each organization and educational institution, persons responsible for the evacuation of the collective were appointed. They knew where the bomb shelters were located and were responsible for personal protective equipment (gas masks) and first aid kits, periodically (probably 1 time a year) trained the team - gave lectures and conducted training evacuations.
      And in schools there were lessons of NVP, where children were told how to behave in such a situation, taught to provide first aid.
      We were not afraid, we lived quietly and knew that everything would be fine.
      Какой ужас! Твои родители построили убежище на заднем дворе! Как вас запугивала антисоветская пропаганда, и каждый должен был заботиться о себе, спасать свою семью!
      В нашей стране никто не строил личных убежищ. Государство позаботилось о нас. Государство строило убежища для населения, периодически (1 раз в год) проверяло работу сигнала "Воздушная тревога" в городах. На каждом предприятии, в каждой организации и учебном заведении были назначены лица ответственные за эвакуацию коллектива. Они знали, где находятся бомбоубежища и отвечали за средства индивидуальной защиты (противогазы) и за аптечки первой медпомощи, периодически (наверное 1 раз в год) проводили обучение коллектива - читали лекции и проводили учебные эвакуации.
      А в школах были уроки НВП, где детям рассказывали, как вести себя в такой ситуации, учили оказывать первую медицинскую помощь.
      Мы не боялись, мы жили спокойно и знали, что все будет хорошо.

      @@Дмитрий_Тихомиров What a silly person. We had a backyard to install a shelter in, primarily a tornado shelter (they are quite common in the area). Get over yourself.

      @@Дмитрий_Тихомиров You were not afraid, becuase nobody in your government actually gave a shit about your security. such is the case today as well. FYI I was born, raised and still living in the ex-Warsaw pact's 2nd largest country.

      @@jeshkam, your statement is very strange, considering the measures taken by the Soviet government to prepare the population for protection from nuclear danger, and most importantly - to prevent nuclear war. I described it in my comment. And what I have listed is not all that was done by the authorities in order to protect the population.
      Ваше утверждение очень странное, учитывая то, какие меры принимала советская власть для подготовки населения к защите от ядерной опасности, а самое главное - для предотвращения ядерной войны. Я описал это в своём комментарии. И перечисленное мной - это далеко не всё, что делалось властями с целью защиты населения.

    The US knew more than it let on when this was filmed, which is why we allowed the Soviets to waste money on their land and sea forces. All that spending led to their eventual downfall.

      Putin openly said about six months ago for American citizens to keep their guns.
      Now we know many countries have stated to take land on America soil not possible due to the amount of armed citizens.
      Yet every single day the Democrat Party is trying to disarm citizens.
      That should help better paint the picture of what we are dealing with...
