      I've been weekend wankshopping regularly since March and while I've considered myself a good player for years, I feel like I've leveled up considerably and have a whole lot more confidence in my playing

    Such a groovy song and a super sweet lick! Thanks for covering it, and double thanks for the bonus theory lesson that's simple but informative.

    This has always been one of my favorite lead-ins to a solo. It just flippin' rips.

    Terrific, clear teaching! Loved the bonus at the end and, of course, the humor throughout. But I'm struggling a bit with the picking of this riff - can you add that to the Instagram tab please? Many thanks.

    Whenever I watch one of the Weekend Wankshop videos, I think "that's a really cool lick", but I'm always too lazy to learn it.

    I downloaded La Grange on iTunes earlier today, and later, when I opened TH-cam, this video was suggested. Coincidence? Either way, I'm glad I found it.

    Theres been a riff that I have been wanting to learn for a while, its mercyful fate's "Corpse without a soul" I love that lick and I would love it if you could do a weekend wankshop on it! Keep up the great work Ben, phenomenal lesson as always :)

    +Ben Eller I was wondering if you can make a vidio on how to get better than you already are I have been playing for 2 years now and I've been stuck for a WHILE now on the same pace it just would be helpful to get some info on what I should be doing

      Not only practice, but practice in different, potentially uncomfortable sounds and shapes.

    Hey ben I just started following your vids and what a great player and vibrato wow. So with all of your amazing shred I'm so happy you appreciate the tastiness of willy G as he's a blues master. You should check out a Hendrix song called country blues I'm sure you will love it and the mic drop at the end of tornado of souls omg I almost pissed myself Thanks so much for sharing and stay cool, Paul.

    2 questions: have you tried the Dunlap rev willys 7s? I just ordered a set of them. Can't wait to break these 8s to break and I'm gonna slap them on and bend like the sun won't rise tomorrow.
    What kinda guitar is that? I see that it's an ibanez but I've never seen the tele looking ibanez. Just wondering! Awesome video thanks!

    dear uncle ben,
    any tips on how to avoid letting the g string ring horribly out when releasing the bend? Wouldn't wanna embarrass myself like my stepdad at every xmas family dinner right?

    • @chrisofnottingham
      @chrisofnottingham 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not he but... It could be done with the right hand palm as it moves across the stings for the next note, however, when I analyse my actual playing, the way I would normally instinctively damp it is to already have my first finger resting on the g string behind the bend, and when the 3rd finger releases the string, the other finger remains across it for a fraction of a second. But in fact, in this case there is a tiny silence before the next note rather than a legato flow, and this comes from suddenly releasing the tension of the bend but keeping the 1st and 3rd finger loosely on the string during this tiny moment of silence.
      It's funny, I was never taught about damping (or anything for that matter) and I didn't particularly put any effort into thinking about it, but over the years it seems to be something that you find yourself naturally doing when the rest of the playing has become more or less manageable, and I don't really ever think about how I do it.

      yeah I'm kind of starting to develop a somewhat acceptable muting technique, guess I'll just have to figure out what works best for me, I'm not really used to bends in general

    Just seeing your Talman 1803 makes me want to buy without trying! Any regrets, or do you wish you'd got the 1702 model with two pickups instead? Did you see the Blonde Butterscotch 1803 in the flesh, and how did it compare? There is no store near me that carries the Talman, so maybe I should take the risk seeing as I'm a long time (25 year) Ibanez user and new chicken picking fan (been following Johnny Hiland for the last year and itching to get that sound).
