This was my first foam board Burningman shelter. It folded into a 4ft by 8 ft by 1ft thick stack. It was made with 1" foam board, 3" gorilla tape and some boards.

Really cool as always. I would probably put a small solar panel on it. And cross ventilate from the bottom to the top with the fan at the top. Then you place a wet cloth on your intake it will have an evaporative cooling effect.

Excellent points Daniel. As it was we took out the bubble windows for cross ventilation and stuck a small AC below powered by a small Honda generator. It worked OK, but this shelter only had 1" thick walls. My others are 1-1/2" thick, which work much better for strength and keeping the heat out.

The pyramid design is an awesome idea. I'll have to build one one day.

This looks like a great improvement on a previous similar design. And, that last picture was really cool, with the crystal ball at the apex.

The triangle is the most structurally strong sound shape there is in the trusses industry. We were told it was a sacred shape and it creates the structural geometry of our roofing systems!
A pyramid is just the next logical progression of a triangle. Ancient civilizations knew thousands of years ago that this was the most perfect building period.
It can't be toppled because it's soo well planted at the base and the wind can't knock it over because of the aerodynamic wind dissipation going up to the summit!
There's a reason why these structures are still around surviving even today!!! Make them out of megaton cut stones and they're impenetrable! 👁️ Truly marvelous!!!

I hope this comment finds you as this idea has influenced me greatly in creating tiny homes for my land in Ephrata, Washington. I want to use this foam board idea but with the design of those ufo futuro homes from the 60’s with 4x4 internal structure and wood floors. Planning on starting off small with models, 2 person, and then hopefully full size using the big sheets. Wish me luck and I would love and feedback, advice, or collaboration. Especially when it comes to what I could use for inexpensive windows?

What did you use to make the ball on the top? That was sort of cool and very unique. Thanks Paul.

I nabbed them at a local party supply store. Not sure if they are still open. At the time they were about $18 per window. Very thin though, but did the job.

What would you suggest for someone trying to design something that doesn't have experience drawing diagrams & skematics? Do you know of any good 'X subject for Dummies' books or tutorials or classes to take online that don't cost a fortune?

Not bad but to do it again I'd use 1-1/2" thick foam board. Much more rigid. I've made several other shelters with 1-1/2'. One I could stand on top and get a view.

@@paulwelkinsdiy Thanks for your reply. I love the design. I was daydreaming about using some sort of air convection etc.. drawing in air from the bottom, passively if possible.
