I just snatched up a white 1999 awd 5 speed manual. It just turned 69k miles and was owned/garaged in Oregon it’s entire life. The best part is that the dealer that was selling it was the same Honda dealer that sold it back in 1999 and was the only place that serviced it the last 23yrs.
So what did I pay for this minty gem in September of 2022 you ask? In a market right now where you pay over $100k for an F-150, the dealer was only asking $9995. There weren’t even any doc/misc. fees involved.

2001 ex 5spd 4wd here ! i have 157k on it right now. every time i want somthing new i keep thinking how it wouldnt be as fun as the crv. i think with these cars being a 1st gen it carries that throwback legacy. i have had integras and civics and the commonality of engine and all is insane. its a manual which is fun in any older honda and has decent ground clearance and 4wd so you can take it anywhere yet it almost is small enough and has such great viewing due to the high sitting seats that it feels almost like a car that can go offroad somewhat. the interior is built well and the simplicity and blandness in color and options inside is something i grew to love. the dash hardly has any buttons and the guages are all old looking and not digital like you see nowadays. if the engine ever does go i might continue to replace the major parts if i have the money and let her stay on the road till the fram collapses ! a true gem these are. my family says they will never go up in price cause there is nothing special about them. well thats until you drive it and see how special that trans and b series motor is. my friend was laughing driving it saying it was funner than any auto sports car hes driven. and they redline around 7k which is just bonkers for any suv

I had a 1997 CRV AWD automatic and wished to have in a manual because I felt auto was had such slow acceleration. That thing was a beast in the snow! Passed up many cars during a blizzard with ease. Super easy to park with as well, cheap parts, and great visibility!

My first was was a 5spd 00 CRV EX! It was my grandparents they had it as far back as I can remember. Very well maintained and taken care of. They gave it to me when I was 16 with 188k miles. I'm 23 now with family and I still have ol faithful. 235k miles and still going strong! I have MANY other cars I've collected since then but I still appreciate and care for my CRV as if it was my only car that I needed and relied on.

Loved your take on it. I’m buying one this week with 140k on it and good shape. But you’re right about the market, similar CRVs with automatic trans go for $500-1000 less on the marketplace. And are generally in much worse shape than the manuals. Probably teenagers’ first cars that have never seen a loving owner haha

The TH-cam algorithm bounced me to ur video and I'm glad it did. Sometimes artificial intelligence is actually intelligent. I just purchased my daughters "hand me down" vehicle. She upgraded to a new RAV4 hybrid. I wasn't looking to get another car but the dealership (steal-her-shit) offered $1,000 as a trade-in value and I said no!! I offered her $500 more so a whopping $1,500. I was just planning to flip it and get my money back but a funny thing happened on the way to the forum. It has grown on me. It's quirky. For years my daughter has raved about the attributes of her CRV. Blah Blah Blah. "Dad the CRV does this. The CRV does that". I'm like whatever. Now that I have had a chance to drive it I'm a believer. Your video slaps hard!! I agree with your assessment wholly. I wish mine was a 5 speed but hey you have to be grateful for what you get. I'll be on the lookout for a manual tranny but in the meantime I'll enjoy this little number for a minute. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

I have a lifted 99 ex auto awd with 140k miles. I turned it into a overlander. I run a truhart lift coilovers, 215/75 r15 general grabber ats. I want to go 225/ 75 r15s. with my hrg spacers.(I have those) If you want bigger tires and lift than You have to get the frame drop and steering extension. I took out the back seats and made a platform. I have a welded jerry can holder, were the license plate was. My service dog loves road trips. If i want 4 wheel all the time then Clutch plates and viscous coupler but those about 2gs each. That's if you want 4 wheel all the time. Off road fog lights in the front and rear. The blacked out headlights. Taillights have the clear not yellow on top. Just changed oem out the other day. They look great. I picked up a roof rack from the pick n pull for $50. Ebay wanted over 200. I still have all oem stuff. This helps with re sale. I did the same with my 99 civic ex coupe. I love Hondas. They are easy to work on and last a long time. Oh and oem stereo. Its a Honda, so its always getting something new. God bless

It still has the original fuel pump and the original starter had to be replaced around three months ago. It's my daily driver for going back and forth to work( a 20-minute commute) along with running errands so I only put 7500-8000 miles on it per year these days so it's gonna take me another year to hit the 300k mark.
