I think that is a natural feeling. If you do decide to stay, hang in there and keep doing that next small thing that makes your place just a little better than it was before. Cheers! John
Loved this pod and grateful to hear smart push back on that urbanism’s big problem video - explainer-only type videos often spark direct pressure in real life if they go viral enough and are specific in political call-outs.
Yay! Super stoked you enjoyed it. Thank you so much for tuning in. Funny enough, this was recorded before that other video dropped, so technically, it is not a direct response. Cheers! John
Really enjoyed your discussion with Mike. Thanks! It was also interesting to hear that you are a fellow emigrant from the Big Island. After almost 25 years of living, working and farming, mostly on the Hilo Side, we also very intentionally chose a small, walkable, bikable mainland city, with good transit bones, to settle down in. At first, we thought we might be able to get away with only owning one car and not needing to drive it as much as we had on the extremely car dependent BI. After two and a half years of living car light, we sold our vehicle (for almost as much as we paid for it brand new in 2019) and haven't looked back. All of the $$ we used to spend on gas, insurance, maintenance, parking and depreciation, now is going towards supporting small local businesses in our community, all easily accessible by walking biking or public transiit. Thank you for the work that you're doing, profiling people who are making positive changes in their communities. Its inspiring. Please, keep up the good work!
This is the conversation I've been waiting for. So nice that I got to know Mike from Strong Towns better and heard about the progress in his work. I agree 100% with him about the positive contribution John Simmerman makes to this medium!
Awe, thanks so much! As I said in the episode, y'all in the Active Towns audience, are the best!! Thank you so much for tuning in and spreading the word. It really means so much and it is helping to start conversation and make a difference on the ground in cities around the world. Cheers! John
Thanks so much for having me, John! You're a great host and it was a blast chatting with you.
Thanks so much for coming on the Pod, Mike. Congratulations on the success of the Channel. Keep up the great work. 🙌
Congrats on getting your unicorn job! I enjoy your videos and share them with my community.
I totally relate to 'moving to somewhere better' as sometimes it feels like such a colossal struggle to make it better.

Not offended or anything, but Urbanism isn't the proverbial Kool-aid. Car Dependency is!
Hehe 😅 True that! I suppose it’s all a matter of perspective, eh? Hope you enjoyed the episode. Cheers! John
Keep up the good work guys, love both of your guys’ videos 🤘🏽
Thank you! Will do! Really appreciate you tuning in. Cheers! John

I like the subject matter but can't handle the hipster moustache! sorry
Hehe 😅 Funny, I’ve only known Mike with a ‘stache so I probably wouldn’t recognize him without it. Thanks so much for tuning in. Cheers! John
