It's like they wanted to try to portray viking warriors and raiders realistically but they didn't want to accept the natural consequences of criticizing their evil actions (their brutality and evilness almost on par with the likes of isis) and having the audience shunning and feeling disgusted by that; so they kept the portrayal still likable so that we could still view them as a type of interesting heroes.... Which is what I have a problem with. Don't try to show their despicable violence but then pretend they are still all people you'll want to follow and see more of. Either keep it romanticized please (like pirates) OR actually show them in the line of a historical documentary for the disgusting turds they really were (also like pirates).
