Which Will Catch More Fish?? Ep. 2 Berkley Gulp! Sandworm VS. Frozen Shrimp!

  • For the longest time I've been wondering what bait will catch more fish; Berkley Gulp Sandworms or Frozen Shrimp. Shrimp is known for being one of the best baits for perch. Which will catch more fish??

Awesome video bud. New to fishing but I found hooking tiny pieces of shrimp on a sabiki rig and just dropping it down below a pier was effective for catching perch. I once hooked all 6.

Lol I bought those Berkeley sand crabs back when I started fishing (March) and haven't really caught anything, although I haven't tried it too often; you'd think they have the texture of a softshell though! I've been getting super skunked the past month using Berkely Gulp Sandworms... too stubborn to use bait but I think I'll have to switch to shrimp soon just to get my morale up lol. Thanks for the sub Matts; Maybe my next video will be to attempt to catch solely on Berkely Gulp Sandcrabs for science. As always, great vid, tight lines. Cheers!

An enjoyable video. Those little dinks love the sand worms. Why smaller, scent? Many times they will just peck off the tip or part below hook.

A bit of advise, peel the shrimp and use the meat only. That is a more efficient way of catching fish with shrimp. Personal experience.

awesome experiment! You even controlled for location of the bait! very impressive.
Edit** You even realized at the end that the fish size caught on the shrimp could have been an outlier and that it's not statistically significant! You learned all this through personal experiences? You could've been a scientist! haha

Stinson Beach is beautiful. With a Carolina rig it would seem both baits are on the bottom since the weight is above the baits unlike the high low rig.

Owen Walsh catch and cook is fine, but look at it, most ppl let fish go. And not nessessarily because they are so humane. Ppl are plain lazy to take on the task to clean, prepare, and cook that fish, even though in the age of Internet there is no shortage in how to online. Ppl hate to admit it, but the laziness, and unwillingness to get dirty is the 90 plus % of a reason why fish swims away free. Not a bad thing, on the other side, it keeps a better fishery for me!
Especially when we r talking freshwater. Catch n release definitely keeps the fisheries.
So in conclusion ppl who appreciate a good fry should be happy others are lazy, lol
That said, there are folks genuinely letting fish go because they want it alive. Cudos to those ppl too

Hi Owen - catch & cook videos are great, but in order to cook a fish, you have to catch it first, and any video showing tackle comparisons & the best way to do this have to be good too.

I have an important comment for you. When i was diving near the shoreside in hawaii i saw a huge visual diffrence from fake bait to real bait as the fishermen casted their rigs. The fish went more after the bait that looked more pleasing to the eye. The bait worms were pale vs the fake worms that were bright red. The fish loved the fake worms for the vision and they loved the bait shrimp for the smell in the water and the fact that that peice of shrimp looked like it was torn off of something that was just killed and the small fish like to look for leftovers from such incidents.

Interesting test. I bought some dried sandworms (can't recall the brand name) once and the fish went nuts for them. I'm going to hunt them down again, or just go to a bait shop I know a few K's (miles) away that I know sells fresh sandworm. I think the worms are a fish favourite. I've found that fowl gut works well for Bream over here in Australia. Probably because it self berleys (chums).

  • @TheOpelkoenjas

Question: don't you find it disrespectful to start casting your line where people - specially kids are swimming/surfing? Am I really the only who actually concerned (since no one else mentioned it)?
Note to everyone: please avoid spots where people - specially kids are swimming/surfing/playing around. Accidents happen very fast, and its ALWAYS the fisherman that gets the full raft, trust me. You don't want to be THAT guy. It's not worth the fish nor the TH-cam views. :)
    Cheers.

  • @gavinnosler6028

I used to use those bigger weights and larger reels for surf perch, but I started using a tiny size 500 reel with 4 lb. line and a small weight and it's way more fun. You have to constantly reel in slowly to keep some tension on the line since the waves bring it back in, but you cover a lot of ground. I recommend giving it a try. Also I don't think I've seen you catching any halibut in the surf. I prefer hardbaits like LuckyCraft, but leadheads work just as well. Halibut from the surf is so much fun.
