    This version of this song on Tap the Red Cane Whirlwind was a complete revelation to me when I first heard it, I don't believe I had ever heard anything like it - and I was not a young man by any means when that happened! . It changed my views about what the acoustic blues could be and turned me instantly into a KJP fan. The whole album is probably the one I would save from a burning building and I cannot say how pleased it has made me to see you transcribe this. I'll be along later to sign up in Patreon, thank you so much, you've made an old guy very happy!

      Very glad to hear it. I agree, that whole album is phenomenal. It certainly changed the way I thought about acoustic blues too. It still does to this day. Thanks for the comment.

      It’s an epic album, I bought a spare copy as it’s out of print.

    Absolutely first class Rupes.... This is no easy song to get a grip of, well done. Particularly like the fact you haven't tackled the whole song note for note abut instead taught the overall vibe. KJP never played any song the same way twice and there's better learning for us having a general understanding encouraging us to play around andn learn a little for ourselves.... again, well done...

    As someone who regularly rewatches videos of Kelly Joe playing things like Crow's Nest, River Rat Jimmy, Country Blues, Tight To The Jar, Hard Times Never Go Away etc., this channel popped up as recommended for me yesterday on here. I'm just coming back to guitar after a year and a bit away due to ill health (better now, thankfully!), and had to leave a comment to praise the amount of effort you have put into this video and lesson, sir. It's brilliant, and I'll have a go at learning this song now. I had been thinking of having a go at working on a version of Beggar's Oil on the banjo. It was only earlier this year I actually found out Kelly Joe had died. I was really saddened. I saw him once in concert, sat just a few feet from me, and it was one of the best concerts I've ever been to. He was spellbinding, a true master of his craft, and very dearly missed. I listen to him every day. He's one of the players that got me to start fingerstyle in the first place. I have his tuition dvd on that and also the slide guitar one. Any way, I wish you and your channel all the best, Rupes McD. You clearly put a lot of care and passion into your work.

      Hi. The video embedded in my patron page is the same one, but you can download the 10 exercises and the intro as pdf and guitar pro. You’ll also unlock all the other mid tier stuff- that’s about 100 posts and downloads.

    Thank you very much, this is a great lesson, once again. I'm really fond of your KJP teachings (your BOAB serie is very nice too). I've been struggling for a while with is rendition of "Hellhound on my trail" (Freight and Salvage 2013 live), wich is using mostly the same patterns, and this is giving me great keys. Concerning "Hard Time Killing Floor", I really like the version of Piers Faccini on a OuïFM (french radio) live. A warm tone and a soulfull voice.

      Thanks Robin. That’s a nice version by Piers Faccini. Yes hard times they never go away uses a repeating pattern. I figured it out a while back- might have to revisit it. Thanks 🙏🏻

      @@robinlamps5431 I had a listen, you are right, very similar approaches in that live version of Hellhound on my trail to this version of Hard Time Killing Floor. Clearly KJP knew he was onto a good thing with that tuning etc!

    Wow! Very good job really !!
    Kelly was so awesome. I wonder why he didnt became more famous.
    Im so sad he passed, and why he passed? He was sick?
    Kelly deserved to be as recognise as Céline Dion !
    Maybe that was his choice to remain underground .
    This being said, i miss him a lot😢

    I guess if you can’t Travis pick, there’s no point in going through this.

    • @RupesMcDGuitar
      @RupesMcDGuitar  ปีที่แล้ว

      You could play around with the tuning, the chords and the mode without Travis picking. But to get the rest.. yes. You’ll need to get steady with your alternating thumb.
