  • Walking the West Highland Way trail in Scotland from Rowardennan to Inversnaid. This is the second half of day 3 of my Scotland hiking trip.
This is a touch section of the West Highland Way -it's very rocky, and the rocks can be steep and slippery. Get a good look at these hard parts of the West Highland Way in this video.
    Here's what you'll see:
I leave Inversnaid after having a bite to eat on a bench with a view of Loch Lomond. There were still beautiful streams and waterfalls, but the trail gets a lot rocky. Some scrambling is required, up and down rocks and boulders.
There are big ferns that lean across the trail, grabbing hold of you as you walk by. Eventually I reach the end of Loch Lomond.
There's a quick tour of Doune Bothy - one of the Scottish shelters for hikers.
When I make it to Inverarnan, I stay at The Drover's Inn -one of the most haunted inns in Britain. It's been there for over 300 years and was a popular rest spot for the cattle herders (called drovers here).
I have an AMAZING meal - food always tastes better after hiking! I hang up two days worth of wet clothing in my room which smells terrible, and I can't open the windows because of midges. But it's great to relax in a good size room with a nice bed. I don't see or hear any ghosts since I'm too tired to be bothered by them.
And guess what - I made it through a whole day without falling!
I'm an American and a solo woman hiker who walked the West Highland Way from Milngavie to Fort William. This is a beautiful trail, and safe to do for solo hikers. It was much more 'civilized' than I'm accustomed to on my hiking and backpacking trips! This was my first trip to Scotland.
Locations: Inversnaid, Loch Lomond, Doune Bothy, Inverarnan, Drover's Inn
    Things you need:
Guidebook: amzn.to/3rBZCeo (The maps in the book are GREAT!)
Map: amzn.to/3MduTOe (The trail is well marked but a 'real' map is great for planning and checking distances)

I loved this video! I think it’s the best one I’ve seen of the Inversnaid to the end of Loch Lomond. We did this part the day prior to your doing it. We had crazy rain. We stayed at the Ardlui Hotel, so we jumped on the ferry.

Thank you - glad you liked it! When I was walking this part, I kept thinking 'I'm so glad I'm not doing this in the rain we had yesterday,' and that's when you were doing it. That had to be quite the adventure!

The WHW is so gorgeous and harsh at the same time. You really created a nice video of your adventure, it almost felt like being with you on the trail (I hopefully will film there by myself soon). Looking forward to your future adventures. Happy trails, Mario

All those tick infested ferns worry me more than the walking tbh. Doing the trail next month and gonna spray my kit with permethrin spray.

I didn't see any ticks when I was there, but it's a good plan to spray your kit to avoid them!

    I really enjoyed this series.
I planned my Isle Royal trip with your videos. Please conclude that series. I didn’t see that part of the island

My computer fried my memory card from the last couple days of the trip so I don't have any of the GoPro footage:( I might be able to put something together with the pictures from my phone so maybe I'll put together a conclusion out of that.

Love your series! Was wondering what your start and end time was for day 3? Planning my hike for later this year and trying to gauge timing for days, especially this one!

Day 3 I left right around 8:30 and reached Drover's Inn at 5 pm/1700. My watch gave me 8 hours and 13 minutes of hiking time (I turned it off when I stopped to eat). Hope that helps - have fun!

It looks very daunting and it makes me wonder if I am able to do the same in september….I will be nearly 80 then. Experienced hiker but still this but looks tough. Is this the low way or the highway ? Well done. I have also booked the drivers inn. Thank you

I took the high way as I was told there would be lots of waterfalls - and there were! There are some tough parts, but it's mostly that it's long with lots of ups and downs and rocks. Take your time and be careful on the rocks, especially if they're wet.
