    With 30 million people over 65, Japan's life expectancy is the highest in the world. In the countryside it seems that keeping active and sociable is the secret; "a positive mental attitude is what counts". Yet in Tokyo the story is not quite the same - in the city the elderly aren't active through choice. Meagre pensions mean they often work up to their deaths. More and more old people line the streets, "living one day to the next". With a huge burden falling on the younger generation, the technophile Japanese see robots as a solution, most recently developing a 'robot suit' walking aid, designed to increase independence. It's a step in the right direction, but is it too little too late?

    Positive mental attitude-stay engaged-read-sing-paint-garden-eat wisely-do things you enjoy-have a circle of friends. Of course, what do I know? I am only a child (I'll be 70 in a few months). Our mother passed away at 95. A wise, funny, active, sweet woman, who also raised us as a single parent. I pity self-involved Millenials who 'just can't be bothered' with anything but their own little worlds, and dismiss the elderly...who seem to be doing just fine, thank you very much!!.

    • @expecto1982
      @expecto1982 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Are Millenials, if they are indeed as you describe them, behaving in such a way due to the failure of society and parents to raise them emphasizing more on human interactions and human compassion, rather than on status, achievements, technology, economic growth? Did the “elderly" attempt to interact with the later generations in languages that the later generations can understand or the elderly are just as self-absorbed in their own outdated ways? The world is very difference place now. Be kind, be understanding, and the same will be shown you. That is after all the Golden Rule.

      The globalists - who are emperors, kings, prime ministers, presidents and dictators - are covetous and they control the running of governance around the world ever increasing LEGALLY yearly the high cost of living to covet more wealth. The citizens will suffer when they age old even if they had saved for retirement which will get negated. They suffer because their retirement savings are being stolen LEGALLY by the greedy globalists through constantly increasing yearly the pricing of everything like food, housing and healthcare.
      In Japan, it explains why 50 percent of the population are over 65 years since the young generation can hardly afford to get married to raise family because of EVER increasing high cost of living!

    I lived the first half of my life in in the N.Y.C. area and then moved to the mountains of Puerto Rico. I had this elderly neighbor, (I witnessed this with my own eyes) he was 94 and he walked towards a grapefruit tree with a large sack and a thin rope. He proceeded to climb that tree and filled the sack with grapefruits and he slowly lowered it down, using a thick branch to ease the weight. He climbed down the tree and placed the sack on his back and walked away as if nothing, special, had happened! His last name was Troche and he was a good neighbor.

    Longevity is really not hard to figure out.
    You know what to do.
    A spoon full of diet. A spoon full of genetics. A spoon full of exorcise. A spoon full of friends and family. A BIG spoon full of spirituality. A spoon full of a positive attitude and an I don’t give a shit what people think of me. And finally. A spoon full of good genes doesn’t hurt.

    • @NotSoCrazyNinja
      @NotSoCrazyNinja 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Genetics play "a" role, but diet, exercise, and willpower to live are the keys. If you WANT to live, and are willing to put in the effort (work and a good diet), you will probably live a long time. Even a healthy person who no longer wishes to live can find themselves crippled in no time at all.

    @Frenchfriesandchunkythighs 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Im really unfit, bad mental health and suffering from a chronic foot injury and i only just turned 29 two days ago! Watching these videos are inspiring. I never thought i would reach 20 let alone 25 because i was pretty suicidal and depressed since i was really young as a lot of bad stuff happened. I never planned or had an idea for the future. I was never taught and only recently learned how to handle money better. Im really behind people my age and some of those who are younger than me already have a house and future. I became pessimistic and negative a lot and struggle to see the positives.
    Although when i was younger i was suicidal/depressed i also had more times i can remember of having joy and not worrying as much. Nowadays i find it hard to not worry, put myself down and look at the future positively.
    The more i watch documentaries about longevity and positive habits im slowing wanting to live a longer life and enjoy the present of actually being alive and have the choice to improve my future.
    I hope in the long run i can undo all the damage iv done to myself and i hope i can work at a better future. Heres hoping!

    • @NotSoCrazyNinja
      @NotSoCrazyNinja 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's how it is almost everywhere. Once you no longer have the ability to contribute (work), you are not a priority anymore. If you get anything, you're lucky. However, sometimes "poverty" is a blessing. When you can't afford to just go out and buy all the food you need, you have to work a garden to feed yourself. It's hard work, but that hard work will keep you healthy and allow you to live longer. The fresh food will also help you stay healthy and live longer. The evenings, when there is nothing to do, you can't "waste away time" on a computer getting your brain pumped full of how bad everything is, so you can actually relax for a time. A life of poverty can be boring and dull, but it can also, if done right, lead to a healthy existence. If you have a community to be a part of and things to do during any free time, it can be fun enough. I can't speak for Japan, but in the USA, poverty is harsh. There is no way to really own any land because of the high cost of land and taxes. Without land, you're forced to rent, which means you have to work and due to high cost of rent, most of what you make will go towards shelter and surviving. The work will drain you of your energy and mental stability over time. You will be too tired to work a garden, so you have to resort to buying cheap junk food to survive or rely on handouts. If your work doesn't wear you out too much, you may not be able to have a garden due to rental rules or lack of land. Poverty in the USA can be very harsh. I know, I've lived it for about half of my life. I'm no longer "technically" poor, but, I still see myself as "poor" since I can't afford all I need and am unable to have a garden. My life is simply a life of work to get what I need to survive so I can work. It's a meaningless life. A life without purpose. Just another cog in the wheel of some big money-making machine.

    Old age has become a serious social problem in Japan a decade + after this was made. A lot cannot live on their pensions and the few young people have lost the cultural respect once accorded the elderly. People are forced by poverty to work until they drop and many have been found dead alone in their tiny apartments. Of the homeless in Japan, the majority are over age 65.

    Living to be very old isn't always a good thing. Sure, science may someday figure out how people can live forever but at what price? Death is part of life and living forever is unnatural. To me, living to be 100 is unnatural. Maybe the pendulum swings the other way now, the younger people not caring about their health, not getting enough exercise and sun, leading a more sedentary life, eating fast food full of fat and sodium. They may live shorter lives.

    Still, the aging of a population cannot be solved properly by replacing it with a population from an entirely different culture. This is against the very nature of cultural cohesion. The very framework of a society, a countr . The west should discriminate more between who is allowed in, Japan should maybe discriminate a bit less. Key remains, you move to a different country? You adapt! Unfortunately, there are many people in the west that do not agree with this point of view. Meanwhile tensions between indigenous and non-indigenous groups grow.... I can imagine Japanese people thinking, not with us..... #MultiCulturalismCurse

      They have some but not enough. In this capitalist world, one can't be against immigration. They need way more chinese and korean immigrants at least
      But they don't apologise for war crimes so other Asians probably don't even want to live there

    (10:54) "The sociologist Aya ABE..." It's pronounced A-beh, not Abe as in Abe Lincoln. This journalist loses all credibility. Can't even get the surname of an interviewee?

      @ Pali: "Loses all credibility ?" For a pronunciation error in a language he doesn't know ? What kind of pompous jerk are you ?

    • @indaegu
      @indaegu 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yes, that's reasonably stupid. It takes some people many many years of study to still mispronounce English words, which is understandable. Why on earth do you think the interviewer will be able to correctly pronounce what to him is a very foreign name? Mispronouncing a foreign name has no relation to the credibility of his story.

    Why people are interested in longer lives? Longer life is a pity a pain and disgusting. Get rid of longer lives. The longer life one will spend the more sins he/she will commit. There is no escape from death.
