Hello, i just read your reply to my friend. This thing is new to me, so I tried to enter the page but I couldn’t understand how to submit papers or what i need to get. If u know anyone that could help lead us to something I’d appreciate!
As someone coming to Canada who is looking to apply for PA certification through the CCCPA you will need to go to this page on their website (www.cap-acp.org/CCCPA_Applicant_Documents.php). Here they explain what you need to submit as someone applying through the OJT route. Broadly speaking, you will have to pay a certification fee and submit a few different documents which include proof of education of a BSc, a record of employment from your employer’s Human Resources department, showing a work history as a PA of two years prior to December 2024 (which is when the OJT application route permanently closes), confidentiality agreement and a signed experience checklist for specimens you’ve grossed in the past. These documents are all provided at the link above and there are also instructions for document submission on that page as well. If you are able to submit all those documents and they all meet the CCCPA's standard, you will be granted permission to write their certification exam which you will need to pass before becoming certified. If you have questions about the process or specifics I would direct them to info@cccpa-cccap.org and they should be able to help you
Hi there, I'm so happy I stumbled upon this channel. I will be sharing it with my friend abroad. She's a PA outside Canada and USA and we were wondering is there a specific route she needs to take to work in Canada? Does she have to study here all over again or is there an equivalency program/examination process that qualifies her to come work in Canada? Would really appreciate your input and guidance 🙏🏽
I’m glad you found the channel and thanks for sharing! I can’t speak to what it requires to work in Canada or the US in general (eg getting work visas or sponsors etc) but in terms of working as a PA - it depends on where your friend wants to work as a PA. PA’s aren’t currently regulated so you don’t need to hold certification to work as one. The decision to require employee certification is left up to the individual employer. Some employers require their PAs to be certified and this is true of the major PA employer in Alberta - so your friend is unlikely to be able to work as a PA in Alberta without certification. But currently, other provinces don’t have this type of requirement (even though certain employers in those provinces still might). As far as I know, this is largely true in the US too (except for New York state which requires PAs to be licensed). In Canada, there are a few different ways to obtain certification but without graduating from a NAACLS accredited PA training program, the one that would most directly apply to your friend is the “On the job trained (OJT)” route which is further detailed here www.cap-acp.org/application_Guide.php. Provided she has a Bachelor of Science degree, 2 years of experience as a PA along with an experience checklist/record of employment and applies before Dec 31, 2024, she can be eligible for certification through the CCCPA. If she meets these requirements she will be eligible to write the CCCPA certification exam which will grant her certification if she passes. Unfortunately, there is not an equivalent OJT route for certification as a PA in the USA and the only way to obtain their certification is to complete a NAACLS accredited PA program and pass the ASCP certification exam.
@@canadianpathassistant9066 that was extremely detailed and helpful thank you so much for replying! I will surely let her know and I already shared your channel it seems to be quite helpful for her field! Have a wonderful day!
