So, Laranity didn't mention it in her video, but it is discussed on the wiki, that Sylvari have humanoid form *because* of Ronan and where he planted her (which was initially said to be on the graves of his wife and child). The lore originally set forth be Ree Soesbee and Kristen Perry, in one of many interviews ages ago, is that the Pale Tree was sentient while young, just not able to communicate. Sylvari are modelled after her understanding of human physiology, thus why they look like humans and not centaurs. But it was from Ventari that she learned to be kind and gentle, to care for others (Ventari was a pacifist after all). For a new race, they have some well thought out lore. From how they are born, why the dream exists, to if they eat food like other races do (which they do), etc. Just takes some searching to find it.

Man... That just makes Malyck more confusing...

      Heart of Thorns spoilers:
Malyck can be explained by coming from another tree (another seed from Mordremoth, basically one of those Blighting Trees in HoT maps where Mordrem come from) and was basically your typical Mordrem until he somehow managed to wander off to Caledon, where his connection with Mordremoth became too weak (due to sheer distance) to control him, thus with no will to control him anymore, he gained sentience.
Due to him being mind controlled, his memories were incomplete and even faulty, thinking that his tree (a Blighting Tree) was like the Pale Tree and with other sylvaris freely walking about instead of the reality of the mind controlled Mordrem.

    • @marthdaeglin
      @marthdaeglin 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@headphones2308 That's tended to be the theory, more or less, but OP raises a conflicting point about why Sylvari don't look like mordrem. If proximity to Ronan was the reason the Sylvari wound up looking like they do Malyck being just another mordrem makes no sense.

    • @headphones2308
      @headphones2308 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I imagine Mordrem are the Blighting Trees’ "improved" copies of other creatures, being bigger, stronger, more savage, etc.
Maybe due to how new Blighting Trees were at the time, they copied other creatures more faithfully as they were still trying to learn how those creatures functioned, thus Malyck being more human-/sylvari-like than other Mordrem. This is of course assuming that there was at least one male human or human corpse near the Blighting Tree that spawned Malyck.

    • @ladySelua
      @ladySelua 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@headphones2308 The open thread with Malyck is interesting. There's a lot we don't know, and as far as I'm aware, he never shows back up in the story anywhere. Many of us expected to see him in HoT, but we did not. Which makes me wonder where he went. It seems _likely_ that the different Blighting Trees don't communicate with each other, which lends to the credence that different Pale Trees also wouldn't talk to, or necessarily be aware of, each other. Given that it was put forth that the Pale Tree's seed came from a cave, theoretically it is possible that there are other "Pale Tree" variations out there, and it's entirely possible that the learned to give their children shape in a similar fashion to the Blighting Trees - by copying what they found. If we recall from the lore, when the Firstborn awoke, no other races were present. It wasn't until they started venturing out that they encountered the asura, and then the other races. Its plausible that others haven't ventured far enough out to encounter races / tribes that we, the commander, are aware of (the exception of course being Malyck, but he was washed down a stream, so very accidental). I mean, if you think about the drastic amount of map we have yet to uncover in the game that kind of makes sense. So, it may not have been a Blighting Tree that spawned him, though Scarlet does hint at that being the case. However, we all now by that point she was pretty well bat shit insane. We won't know unless Anet opts to follow and complete that thread, which would build on the Sylvari lore. Which, would be nice, but I won't hold my breath on it.

Eye of the North was like a _prequel_ to GW2.
Seeing a baby Pale Tree (17:00) is still cute, seeing as how I play a Sylvari.
In GW1EotN The Asura are obnoxious as ever, and surprisingly the Norn are even more arrogant.
5:35 // 15:10 Destroyers in Guild Wars 1 were actually *cool,* too. Their naming scheme was "Destroyer of xxxxx"
Destroyer of Bones - Destroyer of Flesh - Destroyer of Sinew
Destroyer of Deeds - Destroyer of Hordes - *Destroyer of Lives*
*Destroyer of Hope - Destroyer of Thoughts* (Mesmer) - *Destroyer of Souls*
Primordus being reduced to making feral Destroyer animals and not the lava terminator bastards of Eye of the North is because the GW1 protagonist kicked his ass :D
4:30 The Elder Dragon cycle is _very_ similar to the Mass Effect Reaper Cycle.
6:00 Hearing that the *Mursaat* are from the previous cycle was a revelation for me a few years ago.
_Creepy angel bastards._ (11:20) Of _course_ they had overpowered debuffs, _they've got previous-cycle magic._
Those golden floaty spellcasters kicked your ass so hard in GW1 you had to make special armor to beat them.
You'll learn more about the Mursaat and the humans that worship them in Season 3 :D
7:00 Don't sass Grandma Glint. She's the Galadriel of GW1!
7:50 Yup. The humans were portal'd to Tyria by the Six. Isekai'd from ??? (Earth. I'm going with Earth.)
8:20 Yes, Balthazar _is_ a badass. He was the God of PvP in GW1 and he started WvW in the lore by making portals.
8:35 "Empire of the Dragon." You just noticed something 99% of the playerbase kinda _forgot._
11:00 // 19:40 Yep. Orr is Atlantis. And Zhaitan the Dragon-Reaper of Entropy dredged it up and is using it as his lair.
Fun aside: We fought Zombie Orrians in GW1 Prophecies too.
It's my pet theory that the GW1 Big Bad used Zhaitan magic, just as the Searing with its purple crystals is Kralkatorrik magic.
And Shiro's Death Wail may be Sea Dragon magic.
If that's true (13:20), Humans got nuked by villains tapping into sleeping Elder Dragons _2 or 3 times_ before the Dragons even woke up!!!
12:10 Abaddon was the god of Magic, Secrets and Water. He had six eyes. _Grant us eyes, grant us eyes..._ She's transforming into an avatar.
    14:00 "The world is unsafe."
    Vigil: You...
    Whispers: Don't...
    Priory: Say...
15:20 That's not Primordus. That's the Great Destroyer. - Okay: All Elder Dragons have 'Lieutenants' - Deputies, essentially. Easier bosses :P
Kralk has the Shatterer (21:05) and Glint
Zhaitan has Tequila the Sunrise and SPOILER, you'll find out.
Mordremoth has SPOILER, you'll figure it out - And the Shadow of the Dragon, which you've seen before as a Sylvari!
Jormag has the Claw of Jormag - and Drakkar from GW1
And Primordus has the Great Destroyer, nemesis of the Dwarves.
16:00 Krait _were_ in GW1. They even had a really cool trick where they could evolve like a Pokemon in the middle of combat from Neoss form into anything from an annoying mesmer to a sword warrior.
17:10 Anyone can outrun Ventari. He's the geriatric Moses Chiron type.
18:40 Keep thinking that thought. In fact: What would the Sylvari be like if they never absorbed the DNA from Ronan's village, or Ventari's wisdom? What do feral Sylvari look like? This is something you _will_ find out.
    48:20 PIKEN SQUARE REPRESENT!!!!!!!

The lore is one of the reasons I love GW2 so much. I started playing in Feb and have enjoyed seeing you play through and love the world and experience as much as I do.
Laranity and WP and now you and so many others are amazing in how much you dive into the game world and help us all appreciate it even more.

Glint is actually the name she took on after being severed from the will of Kralkatorrik. For the portion of her life when she was under his command, she was a herald of destruction, and was known as Ghaust.

About the teleport codes, you can create a squad, set it to private, and then paste the codes from the Wiki (since it's so easy to copy them from there, just click the code and it's marked) into the /d chat. When you then send the message the codes are converted into concrete waypoints.
It's no favourite list, however, it is a decent substitute.
When you have the message field open, before you send it, if you press the right ctrl+up arrow it cycles through your last messages and copies them into the chat line. If you only have the list of WP codes then that will be pasted as well as concrete WP.

You can't replay core story because of the way it is structured. But everything after that is replayable, and some Season 2 achievements can only be gotten by replaying a story mission.

About no valid path to target WAAAYYY back in the day this was a much bigger issue they lifted some restrictions to where you can teleport.
right now i think its basically if its in range and you could go there without using jump you can teleport there which on some locations can be used to skip ALOT.
I often use it to telepoprt up somewhere like bridges
