MAKE THE HOLY SPIRIT COMFORTABLE
Sunday 26th May 2024- second service
Psalms 8:4 What is man that You are mindful of him, And the son of man that You visit him?
Man is special because He is the only creature with the capacity to host God (the Creator).
God knew that we have limitations as men. He therefore left heaven and indwelled us in the person of the Holy Spirit to make up for our deficits and bridge the gaps to enable us live the greatest life ever ( *1 Corinthians 6:19*).
The Christian life has its beauty in following the leading of the Holy Spirit. This explains why God calls us to live a life of brokenness and contrition.
Luke 18:1 Then He spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart,
We pray because we are men and we need help. All of us have eaten of the tree of knowledge of good and evil and we conduct our lives based on that and yet we are supposed to be governed by life rather than knowledge of good and evil.
Romans 8:6, 13-14
Life is the highest gift that God gave us and it is what leads a believer not knowledge. We are meant to live by drawing from the Holy Spirit and the greatest sign that shows that a man or woman is filled with the Holy Spirit is by being led by Him.
Divine guidance is one of the things that happens as a result of the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit.
2 Timothy 3:1-4
In the last days, wickedness will increase and if we do not practice to hear God, we shall face circumstances.
God uses the simple things to train us to hear His voice such that when we are faced with big decisions, we already know how to discern His voice. John 16:13
The divine genius lives inside us to help us. Do not grieve and quench Him but make Him comfortable such that He can help you. Ephesians 4:30, 1 Thessalonians 5:19
How do you make the Holy Spirit comfortable?
1.Let God's word govern you.
2 Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,
The Bible is the speaking of the Holy Spirit and it is the sure word of prophecy. Therefore, if you love the Holy Spirit, you will love the word because it is the primary thing that God uses to guide and lead us.
2.Living a repentant life
1John.1.6-7 If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.
A repentant life is a life of brokenness and contrition. We cannot claim to have fellowship with the Holy Spirit and walk in darkness, we must admit and ask for forgiveness every time the Holy Spirit points something to us.
1 Chronicles 21
When David was confronted by Nathan, He quickly admitted and asked for forgiveness.
There is a continuous cleansing by the blood in our lives but that only happens when we admit that we are wrong and be quick to repent.
Remember, the greater one is the Holy Spirit and He lives inside us to help us but He will only help if we yield to Him ( *1 John 4:4*).
3.Walking in a constant awareness of the presence of the Holy Spirit by developing a consciousness that He is always with you and fellow shipping with Him.
