- The original ‘buoy band’, bound together by lifelong friendship and shared experience. For 30 years the Fisherman’s Friends have met on the Platt on the harbour in their native Port Isaac to sing the songs of the sea. A decade ago they were persuaded to sign the record deal that saw their album Port Isaac’s Fisherman’s Friends go Gold as they became the first ever traditional folk act to land a UK top ten album. Now the incredible true story of how that happened is told in Fisherman’s Friends. From the makers of the 2018’s hit ‘Finding Your Feet’, this new movie starring Daniel Mays, James Purefoy, Tuppence Middleton, Noel Clarke and directed by Chris Foggin is already tipped to be the feel good hit of the year. What's this? Real talented men, without botox in every wrinkle. No plastic, or face lifts, or hair dye, transplants, etc etc. You can see the fascinating life lines on their faces. No techno props? I love this! Also the movie was incredible for too many reasons to name.

I just watched the movie on Netflix. I loved it! I love the songs and the close knit community. I wish there were places like that pub in the United States ☹️. I love listening to the oldies. The music (noise pollution) on the airwaves just makes me turn off the radio and go to TH-cam to listen to great songs like these. Love from USA❤️

I was in Port Isaac for 10 days May 2022 and its so sad that the fishing industry is not there anymore and I hope it comes back bc the shut downs im england killed it and I love you friends and I met a few of you this May 2022 and your so kind and lovely!! SUPPORT THE LOCAL FISHERMAN AND GET THEM BACK UP AND GOING!!!
I go to Port isaac every single year and I say the same it's such a shame 😢

Same here. Our cod fishery, got shut down in 92. We do have a food fishery, with a limited commercial fishery. A lot of outports, died because of it.
There's no one to train them. Membership of the EEC killed it in the 1970's.

Emotional film for me, as the first person I met in college was Paul McMullan.
He was the road manager for the band, who died at the Guildford gig.
The film really does the band, and him credit.

As someone who's grown up in Atlantic Canada on maritime music, I'm so glad I discovered this great group of lads.

For the common man and woman who has worked their a**ses off all their life. Nothing was handed to them. Respect. Much respect given.
I’ve seen many academy award winning actors and the job they did portraying a specific character. But I’ve not seen but a very few acting performances as good as James Purefoy did in this movie. He was excellent and in my opinion this was his best work.
Had the privilege of seeing them live, brilliant! Respect gentlemen.

I have family in Maine lobster fishing I grew up in Massachusetts in the city so I only was exposed to it a bit. My great-grandparents and my grandparents came over from Portugal continuing the fishing tradition. I've been to Nova Scotia beautiful place

While commercial fishing in the Gulf of Mexico I remember never wanting to work on land again and I still don't, that feeling has always been a brotherhood.
Saw them live at the Brighton Dome last night... These guys are legends in their own lifetime.

Having lost my Mentor, my best friend, my soul mate my Dad, I'm only now beginning to come to terms with losing him. A great singer. A true Cousin Jack,. Supported the Nankersey Male Voice Choir from the onset. Worked down Falmouth Docks, joined that choir too. In June "practice was a bit early" December "bit too late" never got tired of singing. Warmington, Merritt's carols, rang out on Christmas Eve. Collection box in hand as a small child. Those harmonies. Saturday nights. The "boys" would gather at the Sea View Inn IFalmouth) gather together on the pavement, sing across the waters to the lads out of the Seven Stars in Flushing. Noise carries across a calm sea. The boys in Falmouth would sing, once done, the boys in Flushing would reciprocate. Those sounds, the harmonies crossing the waters were a once in a lifetime experience. Won't get it now. I grew up with this and my goodness me what a damn privilege that was. You won't get that again. However, it is sending an old heart soaring with pleasure to hear the new voices continuing "our" tradition. Thank you so much boys, for sending a slightly damaged old heart in the right direction. Voices clear and true, no shouting, just harmonies that only us Cornish can master. Long may you continue and thankyou from the bottom of an aging heart for the pleasure you bring. My Dad would certainly approve.

A joy to listen to..it keeps alive the sheer strength, loyalty and history of those at sea in such treacherous conditions. I am glad that their music has been recognised..it is rich in history and memory and has a place in our popular music..it is melodic, harmonious, beautiful and deeply true to life.
