    I came from a Fujifilm system. I love the smaller system that Olympus and Panasonic offer i like the daily use but dont forget that todays software really helps . Also DOF can be helped even in LR CC

    I would advise potential MFT users that as MFT was built to be the first mirrorless camera back in 2008, there is a lot of reasonably priced good quality gear on the secondhand market. Lenses are particularly reasonable. There were 2 different approaches by Panasonic and Olympus/OM Systems. Panasonic went down the stabilised lens route and only switched to IBIS later. Olympus went down the IBIS route, so very few of their lenses have stabilisation. It's therefore best to keep to the same brand for both camera body and lens when starting out.
    With secondhand prices being so reasonable, it's best to buy secondhand to start with and you can always get most of your money back if you decide you prefer Panasonic to Olympus/OM System or the other way around later on.
    An early Panasonic camera and kit lens second hand could cost around £100/$125/€125, with a 6 month guarantee from a reputable secondhand camera store.
    That camera and kit lens will be a step up in image quality from most mobile phone cameras.

    I started down the M43 with a G85 that I got originally for streaming ..then I shot with it and loved the images. Now a proud owner of a GM1. As I work through its menus .... it is robust with options given its size and age. :)

    I'm in the market for a compact mft camera like the olympus pen range or lumix gm1, but im finding that noone is selling them new any more and second hand prices are very high, at least for relatively recent cameras.

    I have been using Micro Four Thirds cameras for many years and I am an enthusiast of the format. That said, in 2024, it's difficult for me to recommend that someone who hasn't used the system yet make the switch. The future of the system is unclear, and there aren't good options in the mid-range and enthusiast levels. With Olympus exiting, making a significant investment to switch to a new system with an uncertain future is not advisable.

    I think you covered everything, Gary. I don’t think there is any lens available for full frame that has no equivalent in micro 4/3, except that the widest angle available is 6 mm=12mm in full frame.
    We could also add that the ergonomics and the fun factor favor M43.

    Nice one Gary. It is only fair to point out though that Om systems seem to have abandoned new pen series options since their takeover of Olympus and our now concentrating on the birding/nature market. The net result is that their cameras and lenses are now bigger and more expensive. Hopefully they will include new smaller and cheaper gear in future but there is little sign of that yet.

      The LX models are very good cameras. I still have LX5 and LX7 in my drawer. Compared with mobile phone cameras, the LX5's video recording fails miserably, but in terms of manual and long exposure photography, it is still better than the professional mode of current mobile phones.
      Starting from 2015 GF7, the performance of GF series processors has been greatly improved, making ISO3200 usable. 2017 GF and GX series integrated! If you don’t absolutely need in-body image stabilization and manual video, You can choose GF9 (GX850) instead. The money you save can buy a better prime lens... Of course GX85 is more powerful : )

    Heloo gary. For me the smaller total smal wwight and size of a mft set up is important. However in certain circuumtanves low light can be a bitboroblematic. Sure there is a trend towards largerer mft camera bodies but the lenses are still small.

    what the recommended Panasonic/OM small and portable camera foe street photography??

    • @jingcanvas
      @jingcanvas หลายเดือนก่อน

      For handheld on low light streets, choose a camera with an in-body stabilizer (Lumix GX85 / Oly EM-5 series) as many fast lenses do not have built-in O.I.S. When using it outdoors in rainy days, go for G85 or Oly weather sealing bodies. For general street photography, for the purpose of extremely light weight, I would recommend GX850+Lumix 12-32mm/14mm or LX10/LX100. Personally, I am too lazy to carry and change lenses, too lazy to go out when raining, particularly prefer Lumix LX models(LX7-1/1.7", LX10-1", LX100-4/3"), built-in Leica lens with O.I.S. The most important thing is to try second-hand gear first. Orz

    What about Bridge cameras? Do they have a place?

    • @nix123ism
      @nix123ism หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, I have a few M43 cameras but I also have a fuji X20 which is pretty compact and has a 28-112 lens that is super compact, on the M43 side I have a 12-60 (24-120) lens , it is alot larger than the X20 setup and I find that I take that out with me purely because of its tiny size....M43 is a compact system but when you add all the lenses etc it soon becomes not so compact, bridge cameras usually have a single lens that would cover an entire M43 lens collection ....

    • @peaceridge
      @peaceridge หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@nix123ism Thanks. I have the OM-1 which takes great pictures, but I find it is too heavy for me now. I am a landscape photographer and am trying to find something lighter weight.

    • @nix123ism
      @nix123ism หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@peaceridge I have several early M43 Olympus cameras, EM10,em5, em5 mk 2 and am in a similar situation with trying to reduce weight of my kit , I mainly use for street , travel photography so need a versatile lens setup that's not too heavy to lug around. I have a 14-42 pancake and 35-100 lumix lens that pretty much meets my requirements, I also have a 14-150 lens but it's kinda too big,heavy... It's a difficult situation to sort out a lens collection that is compact and lightweight but also covers your wide, telephoto requirements....I was in SE Asia a few months ago and resorted to using my pixel 3 for shots because it was always with me and charged and easy to upload from etc...honestly took some pretty good shots for a phone....

      @@nix123ism Indeed, I gradually came to the same realization! It was always my Pixel 3aXL that I dared to hold in my hand to take pictures in the rain when traveling. My GX850 is hiding in my backpack well-protected, useless as a hero. LOL

      I would go with whichever is more fun for me. It would also depend on your subject and also whether video or photography would be the majority of your content.
      A Phone is easier to carry then a camera, and you will also have it with you more more often.

      It really depends. Personally, I can't stand the ugly flares in low-light street videos shot with my Pixel 3a. Other than that, it does 90% of my daily photography! Even iphone 15 pro got the same ugly flares as well, that's the only reason I still need a compact camera. If you really have a hard time making a decision, maybe you should go check DJI OSMO Pocket 3. LOL
