The most interesting thing about Sponge Out of Water is how much content was scrapped. A lot of people probably know about "Thank Gosh It's Monday" was scrapped for time, but what interests me the most is how some of the deleted scenes expanded on the villain's backstory, which probably could've helped give the film more weight to it, but another thing is that there was a cut scene of Squidward doing a little "interpretive dance" in the live action setting, yet one of the lines from that scene still made it into the film (albeit during the end credits). Tho nothing will ever top the first movie removing a scene of CGI Sandy with a gun.
Man, that scene in Chicken Run in the beginning when Mrs. Tweedy kills that chicken, followed by Ginger crying will forever live in my mind When I was little I was scrolling through the TV because I was bored, and I found that this movie was playing on a channel I never watched. This was my first time seeing this film, and wouldn't you know it, it was this exact scene playing. Man, what a first impression for 8 year old me, huh?
Honestly, I’ve always held a soft spot for Sponge out of Water, even if it isn’t the best, and definitely not better than the first movie, I still love it.
Sid's "a dandelion! Musht be the lasht one of the sheashon" became a meme with my friends recently and now I love ice age so much more than I already did
I was washing dishes while I was listening to this video so I kind of tuned out for a second, but for a moment I honestly thought you ranked 8 Crazy Nights above Toy Story and Chicken Run.
Man, Klaus is my favourite Christmas movie. It's so sweet and wholesome, and absolutely one of my favourites, not only on this list but of all time. I think the only movie that could beat it out is the Lego Movie.
Not a film, but a great animated DC project was the episode of Batman Beyond called Meltdown (guess who the villain was). You won’t need much context, maybe just a brief recap of what Mr Freeze did in Batman, the animated series and what little people remember from the Batman Beyond Death Battle.
I got to rewatch Coraline during a school celebration, and I am still completely stunned at how unique, visually stunning, and terrifying it was. Easily a top 5 movie of all time for me.
Great Ranking overall, despite me being an Open Season fan. Which I like because nostalgia and I actually find some of the scenes funny. I also might check out Coraline and Klaus around this Halloween and Christmas Edit: Also, from the films you have recently seen, the best guess I can make is Ranking The Worst Animated Movies ever
OK I checked your letterboxd, and noticed 2 potential themes for that last ranking video. The first is Godzilla films, which I'd more expect Nemesis to do on his own. And the other, much funnier route is every film that has ranked last place on a Schaffrillas Productions ranking video.
I have a very soft spot for Ice Age, the first 3 movies in particular but I did find enjoyment in the 4th one. I love Manfred's design and his journey throughout the saga from a troubled loner to a loving father given his past. It's also one of the few trio dynamics across animated movie franchises, with the only other competition being Finding Nemo, even if both moves has their titular characters separated. They use the Freudian Trio trope pretty well imo. I'm also a sucker for Scrat's antics and it's facinating seeing a 3D attempt at Looney Tunes style comedy this early into the medium's life. And the setting is still very unique to this day with very few other movies taking place in the time period. Collision Course can go extinct for all I care though.
the fact that the only Scottish character was not just an animal, but a fucking squirrel instead of a unicorn that is the most meticulously written character whose performance would make me cry so hard that I sob out my own brain is ridiculous I am no longer joking when I say Scotland CANNOT GOD DAMN WIN 😭
I always forget Antz is the first film for Dreamworks, i always close it off and see The Prince Of Egypt as their true first, that would slap Dreamworks in the number 1 spot instantly
I personally disagree with your thoughts on Sponge Out of Water's second half, as I enjoy the movie as a whole, preferring its characterisation of Plankton and liking its comedy just a smidge more than its predecessor, even if the original has the stronger story and message. Otherwise, this is an incredibly solid ranking!
You forgot to mention if you hate the Ice Age baby or not anyways good video, would love a similar one like maybe ranking every highest ranked movie from these studios (though probably not for a while since I imagine there'd be some overlap)
I have a nostalgic connection to the ice age franchise, I used to love these movies and I can’t make myself hate them (except the 5th one. Fuck that movie)
I feel like you should’ve put and watched at least Hakujaden (1958) since that was the debut film of Toei Animation (which is up there with Disney as one of the oldest animation studios in the world). Also, Open Season was mostly a guilty pleasure for me, even though Sony Pictures Animation have made far better movies since then.
If it's any consolation, I watched Ice Age: Continental Drift numerous times, so I hope that evens out its disappearance from the IA part. Sad you're missing on Captain Gutt, but... still. Good video, like these more interpretive scripts and videos, highlighting unusual topics. Movies neato, I think Tamatoa Guy (I'm not putting his full name) covered this, he hasn't, glad to have a fresh take on it. Thumbs up.
For the DC animated films recommendations: Batman & Mr Freeze Sub-Zero, Teen Titans Trouble in Tokyo, Batman vs Dracula, Ninja Batman, Superman Unbound, Batman under the red hood, Batman Beyond Return of the Joker, Justice League Flashpoint Paradox, Wonder Woman (2009),Superman Unbound, Batman/Superman public enemies, Batman & Superman World Finest and Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Part 1 and 2 are the ones I recommend in my opinion to watch cause it's so good. Also, yes watch batman the animated series and the rest of DCAU (DC Animated Universe) the animated companions Superman the animated series, Justice League, and Justice League Unlimited. It's basically DC's cinematic universe but good.
I assume Nick/Paramount is kinda like Warner Bros where they made some animated movies beforehand but unlike Warner Bros, the other studio(s) dont have a significant enough presence to count (if they did I assume Rugrats would be on here)
I’d considered Nickelodeon, but the two options I’d seen from them were either a fully live action movie, or the Rugrats movie which is connected to a show I haven’t seen. I figured it’d be best to just leave them off in that case since I wasn’t too interested in either option.
@@BiffWeed ah ok I'm also curious if DisneyToon was ever considered (I definitely think that they would be most significant studio that isn't on the list (they were the ones behind the DTV Sequels (although apparently a good number of their movies were put into theaters))
I had Return of Jafar on my initial draft of the list last year, but then decided against it after realising it wasn't the first thing the studio did. Haven't seen Ducktales, don't know if I'd need context of the show to like the movie, but I figured that I already had the Disney umbrella covered with Snow White and Toy Story.
If I had a nickel for every time a youtuber I really liked who got their start with Death Battle content made a ranking video involving The Lego Movie today, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice. Almost as if this was planned hmmmmmmmmmmmm
It initially wasn’t planned. Nem just happened to get everything done for his video right as I was getting into the editing trenches for this and he decided he wanted us to release them on the same day
About DC movies I think are just as good, there is Batman Beyond: The Return of The Joker. Batman: Under the Red Hood. Batman: Year One and Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Part 1 and 2. Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay. Not as good as the Mask of the Phantom but also very good there is Superman vs The Elite. Justice League: Flashpoint Paradox. All Star Superman. Justice League: New Frontier.
The human cast is all either boring or insufferable, and it leans way too hard into the supernatural side of the series for my liking with retcons and new additions to how everything works that I didn't like at all. Only somewhat saved by a few cool effects and one funny cut from Jason looking at two guys to the news reporting their deaths.
The amount of other movies I’ve seen doesn’t change how I got absolutely nothing out of the experience of watching Open Season other than a feeling of annoyance. I’ve seen far worse, that doesn’t suddenly make me bump its score up when there wasn’t anything about it I really liked.
Oh I’d heard of that one before, completely forgot that it was both animated and older than Snow White. It’s on my radar to check out some day, I hear it’s quite good
It is pretty wild to see how different every animation studios' first films are.
The most interesting thing about Sponge Out of Water is how much content was scrapped. This is way cooler than the “Animation Studios Rankings” I expected.
Nemesis Bloodryche never disappoints

DC animated movies that are really good.
- Batman under the Red Hood
- Superman vs the elite
- Justice League a new frontier
Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths is pretty good, too.
So theres this movie called “Teen Titans Go! To the movies!” Its pretty great. I think you’d love it if you liked Mask of the Phantasm
It would be so awesome

This video is actually quite good
Rorschach car is S tier
This video made me go down a rabbit hole of Biff Weed's Letterbox and his reviews of TMNT 1990 and Garfield are sending me
This video was extremely entertaining and well put together
This felt like a top tier Schafrillas video.

I guess you can consider the Lego movie as the first Lego animated movie so yeah I think it counts
