Generally, if Ren is performing in an odd location, it's because he likes the acoustics... or maybe it was their laundry day. Two birds with one stone.
Ren wasn't really a musician *first* ... he was a musician *simultaneously* . A lot of people try to make a timeline out of something that wasn't one. He was writing and recording his rap album while he was in The Big Push. When he was a pre-teen he was learning guitar *and* making beats. He taught himself to sing *and* rap because there was no one else in his Welsh village who could do either over his beats. He rapped and sang, both, in his first band. It's always been everything all at once with him.
They rarely had official places to play so it was often a matter of asking forgiveness after they were busted. Places were selected for vibes and acoustics or opportunity. The three harmonize phenomenally well together. Just wait until you get further into their catalog.
I think the Laundromat thing is pretty much just a nod to their busking reputation. The idea that they can do their thing anywhere. They actually have an album called The Busking Sessions. BTW, I think the 'glow' looks good.
Oh, I loved this!!! They didn't have much money, so they filmed wherever possible, usually on a film first ask later basis. Ince you see the end of What you want, or the version of Blind eyed featuring the anger car park attendant, that will make sense. That last one is very funny by the way. The car park attendant even has its own vinyl doll.
Ren did all the audio engineering and production for the band. He was probably just in the laundrette one day and decided the acoustics would fit with something they'd been playing around with... :) Like Ren, they were independent. They found (free) locations where they could.
I suspect that if one was to obtain Ren's DNA profile you would find that the DNA structure molecules are replaced with musical notes. He must also have got more than the average share of musical genes when conceived. The fact that he is mostly self taught is quite something. Guitar and voice mostly from TH-cam videos. There is a Ren interview with Chris Liepe, where Chris is quite blown away when Ren tells him he has followed and learnt from Chris for sometime. Thanks for another gem breakdown. Kia kaha from NZ
He's talked about that. He said he never took lessons from his mum, or asked her for vocal tips. All part of the awkward teenager thing apparently, lol. What teenager would? :)
They're just so good. I think that for many in the UK laundromat's have a bit of a retro 'Americana' vibe that was echoed in their outfits. We don't even have one anywhere near me and I live on the edge of a big city. Add in good acoustics and I can see why they picked it.
Glad to hear I'm not the only one that was unconvinced by the harmonica (his singing did not convince me much more either, espacialy when put together with the other two) But the global piece is still epic :)

In a couple interviews, Ren says he was a Producer first. But he is definitely all of these at once.
Also his parents were musical so he grew up with music
You’re gonna love their Bongo Bong cover. 🔥🔥🔥
They are so great together. They hang out and play anywhere and everywhere.
Theyre always so genius with their mashup transitions. 🥹💜
Great one, love the musical insight you’re bringing.
What I appreciate about Ren is that he digs the old classics and does his own take on them.
It's nice havning a knowledgable reactor that picks up on mash-ups, inspirations and general music history tidbits

this is a lovely mash up! thanks for covering it. 💜

The "molecules replaced by musical notes" had me 🤣
His mother was a vocal coach so I’m sure he absorbed a lot that way also!

@@Codex7777 yes! We learn from our surroundings without necessarily forwardly being taught!
Angelina sung it live in one of her concerts in the US, I think it was in Portsmouth.
Glorious music 🎶 🎵

Had missed this previously, such a gem.
You gotta check out their Wade in the Water/Trouble so Hard/Nina Simone video! :) nice reaction! Glad you enjoyed this one.
I reacted to it. You'll see it in a few days (available for members now)
