  • Jason Halbert has been Kelly's musical director for decades, but you might not know that his daughter, Kennedy Halbert, battled cancer for years. At sixteen, Kennedy was diagnosed with thyroid cancer, and she underwent a life-threatening surgery only for doctors to find melanoma in her ankle a little while later. Today Kennedy is cancer-free, but she still experiences unfortunate side effects from years of treatment. Kennedy hopes to give back by doing a live concert to raise $25,000 for the Rally Foundation for Childhood Cancer Research, an organization that provides programs for young cancer survivors and patients. Be sure to donate at rallyteamwarrior.org.

Survivorship, that’s a new word to me and I love it.
This gal is such a great speaker/talker, maybe it’s your familiarity with her. Enjoy her courage and spirit. Dad and family are fabulous! Thanks for holding him in your family all these years Kelly! 💕

I was just thinking the same - what a well-spoken, eloquent young woman; she really made the audience feel her suffering, while never sounding like a victim.

"Life after cancer is so much harder". So much truth in what she said. My dad survived cancer twice. But his life after surviving each time was nothing like what he once knew. His body had been through so much it and was never quite the same. He ultimately died from the aftermath of intense cancer treatments, not active cancer like many think will happen.

I had the pleasure of meeting her and her mother at a show in San Diego and I have to say she it was an absolute pleasure. Her voice is powerful and she's insanely talented. When she shared her story with the crowd it was heartbreaking but also awesome to see that she had fought hard and one and is continuing to fight for those who need it. I definitely suggest listening to her band Krigaré and following her continual journey.

I just lost my friend to melanoma and COVID in July. Stacy was 33 and working towards a masters degree. It’s really hard, especially since grieving can’t take its normal course this year. So wonderful to see someone survive and make it to the other side of that horrible disease.

So sorry for your loss . You can get a collection of videos and pics of your dear friend and make a sweet memorial for family and friends and a collage .mabe ? Grief is tricky, but if you get a variety of lovely memories to take your mind elsewhere , it helps . Also revisiting favorite places remember the happy times 😊 💖 blessings 🙏 ✨

Kennedy you are a wonderful young lady I am so sorry you had to go through that at such a young age, I understand what Kelly means about losing faith I don't know how to feel sometimes. I lost my Mum to Lymphoma when I was 12 it was 22 years ago now but I miss her every day, I'm so glad you are Cancer free now & I honestly hope you never have to go through anything like that again. Your Dad is a wonderful man I love watching him with Kelly, I've never seen your Mum but I know she will be just as amazing as your Dad. I have 2 Daughters they are my life, I remember when our oldest was a toddler she was diagnosed with something called Biotinadaise deficiency (I've probably spelled that wrong but it's basically a Vitamin B Deficiency) the Doctor gave me a Google print out telling me that our baby girl would end up losing her hair, end up in a coma & eventually die. I took her to meet a Specialist who told me that she didn't have it, he actually tore up the prescription he had ready for her he told me "I could lose my career for this but I know she doesn't have it" he told me about 2 little girls he was already treating then he arranged further tests for her, it took a few tests as something kept going wrong. Watching our baby go through so many blood tests was heartbreaking but eventually the Specialist had enough of it being screwed up so he personally overseen every step of the last test, I can still remember the phone call after waiting for what felt like an eternity. He said "Your Daughter doesn't have it go and enjoy your lives together with your beautiful little girl" I just broke down & grabbed her so tight we sat there crying with her, I will be forever grateful to that man Dr George Rylands it was over 11 years ago but I'll never forget his name. It turns out her first blood test had been contaminated so that was why they thought she had it, she has ADHD, Global Developmental Delay and some other issues but none of them matter to us as she is alive we are so proud of her & her little sister every day. Sorry for the long message I haven't talked about that for a long time I know it's nothing like what your parents went through but I can understand that feeling of not knowing what to do or having the power to change anything, I'm glad you have such wonderful support I will be buying a ticket to help you reach your goal. Thank you again Kelly for sharing this story I tell you this in most of my comments but you truly are so beautiful, kind, honest & more, you will never know how much you have done for me lately and I can't thank you enough for that 💛

@macygrace2978~~I thought I remember hearing that Jason's daughter was in that video a long time ago~~So that beautiful girl is really her??..How amazing she got to be in that vid~~This is the first time seeing her and my heart breaks for her and what she went through~~I should have known this because I knew from Kelly's first audition she would win and become a huge star and always followed her stories, etc.~~I'm just so happy I got to see Kelly in concert once in 2007~~She was just as nutty and funny and so very real~~I loved how she interacted with the audience~~She never changed and I love that about her~~She's always been my Idol~~I still miss the younger Kelly and older vids from way back~~Time flies to fast~~It's wierd that poor girl had thyroid problems and other health issues as well~~Hearing about her health issues really hit home because I've been going through thyroid issues really bad and then I found out Kelly has thyroid issues as well~~It's a horrible illness to go through~~I pray for that sweet girl and my Kelly that we'll all be fine~~Have a great evening now and stay safe~~💖💖💖~🙏🙏🙏~😃😃😃😃~~God Bless all ya'll~~😄🙏💖

My sister had heart surgery which lasted 7 hours and afterwards she lost a lot of memory. She couldn’t remember routes she took automatically, forgets names and words. The longer you are under, the more likely you get side effects. Kennedy’s comments just reaffirmed that my sister was it the only one. Go local whenever possible.
