  • Hey everyone, if you saw my last video you know that I found an old fly book, and I wanted to know more about where and when it came from. In this video I discuss what I found, and I also show some of the flies that were inside of it. Thanks!

Good for you keeping the nostalgic pieces alive! I make small pocket size, dry fly boxes myself, out of leather and sheepskin. You’re exactly right on the price. It’s not for everyone, but for the guys that want something old timey, they’re my happy customers.

Fabulous. That upward curved tail I think maybe was meant to be that way. Many mayfly tales have that same graceful curve. :-n

The fly with an upwards tail looks like a mayfly, the second one looks like a mouse or winged bug, and the third looks like a minnow or a bug.

I'd recommend buying a bamboo rod a classic raised pillar reel or an old hardy then fishing the way they did in the early 1900s.

It is very cool box. Approx what did it cost you?

It’s been a while, but knowing me, probably no more than $20. I’m not the type of guy to spend a ton of money while searching antique shops. Usually it’s just a fun thing to do with my wife on a weekend. Thanks 👍

Looks like you got a deal bc I searched that fly box and the cheapest was $49with no flies. Great deal!!

First fly looks like a Leadwing Coachman variant.

Haha, I thought $130 for fly line was crazy. $275 for a fly box?!?!? Man this sport has not changed much, but I guess it is getting more affordable.

My guess is more affordable but quality was sacrificed. So yes you can get into the sport very cheap now, but the gear you get won’t last, like the base models would, back in the day. If that makes sense. But definitely easier to start fly fishing nowadays. You needed to buy a damn 3 piece suit 150 years ago lol.

Hey Robert, I assume you mean the ones I tied? It’s possible yeah. I’m just starting to get back into fishing old patterns, so yeah it could happen. 👍
