I do agree that China is pushing students way too far in terms of education. I often hear about how Chinese students receive the most amount of homework out of any country, but I didn’t think it was this bad. Singapore is also known for being one of the best in academics, and as a Singaporean, we definitely have a lot of pressure placed on us, but UNIFORMS WITH CHIPS AND CCTVs? That is too far. Give these kids a break. There is no point forcing them to become the best if they can’t even take a rest. They are humans, not academic machines. Cut them some slack.

That’s just my thought, but is it worth studying something you are already confident with when you could be doing something new?

As a Chinese person from Thailand, I'm beyond grateful that my great grandparents moved to Thailand and started their families here. I can't even imagine what it's like to literally wear a device that tracks your brain all the time. That's just invading the child's privacy and it could be a stressful thing especially for kids with ADHD/ADD/Autism and other developmental disorders.

As a Filipino student, there's a small amount of expectations my mom gives me when it comes to school, but she doesn't force me to study 24 hours. She understands that the way for me to learn is in my own pace and she encourages me to have fun because, as she said, you can only be a youth once. Not to mention the school she enrolled me to encourages independent learners. We have an aloted day on where there will be no teacher, but they expect us to study on our own.

As someone who studied in China before, i can first hand tell you that the education system has many flaws, we are put under constant presure of being “the best” at everything and thats what most parents expects of their children, we have lesson almost 8hours a day and some even up to 10, plus bullying is also a major issue cus even if you report it, chances are the teachers dont give a sh-, but what i hate the most was that the schools forces you to memorise a sht ton of stuff and the teachers are allowed to hit you 💀
this is related in nepal too, but the only thing that is different from the above things you mentioned in our schools are that bullying is very rare in nepali schools and we have either 7 hrs of school at total in a day, or less. but we dont have holidays in sunday

True though.. am asian myself with health problem too.. which is skeletal dyphlasia.. so, being in this situation isn't easy though.. normal not normal you have to study for freaking 24/7.. so to them SD is just disease name butvas long as your brain working normally.. me, who also having learning disablelities, they don't care bout me they just care bout good grade even my parents don't understand how hurt is my head to memoerize the whole things and also they don't understand of how i feel rn.. my parents say "yeah you just faking it to get attention and to escape study" i was just dudeee am not faking it.. OMG This brought back so many painful memories for me. The problem is, when you grew up in such an environment, you didn’t even know it was wrong. You would feel that all your problems were your own, that you weren’t good enough or didn’t work hard enough.
Yes, they should have free minds filled with imagination besides knowledge; these students never have the time to spend some free time, as if they were androids! Dang these teachers are extremely brutal to these students. :(
As a person who studied at an international school in Shanghai, even I was not fully aware of this. I just heard rumors of schools treating students poorly, and teaching them to hate Japan and the U.S. Before this, I only knew about the heavy workload and stress. But do remember, this is only some schools in China. Edit: Most other schools's problems are just heavy workload and some stress when it comes to high school exams. Though I know that stress isn't good, their situation a lot better to the types of schools shown in this video (coming from a priviliged asshole who can't even speak chinese at a high level). And before anyone says anything, yes, VPN is illegal in China, but the law itself isn't enforced, unless you are seen directly using a VPN in front of high-ranking officials.
You probably were in Wellington or YKPao or some school like that, because now the gov went crazy and some school (like JiaoKe and SUIS) have to learn the huikao chinese curriculum toooooooo :(

I'm also very stress when I was a kid....I am a Chinese and every time when you go to school, your feeling is not HAPPY, you feel STRESS. I don't have freedom anyways- So, when i grown up, means now, I'm working at Australia. I saw many kids there bringing their happy and joyful feelings to go to school.. China...you're going too far. That's not a good thing for kids. China should change.
As a student who used to study in local schools in Hong Kong, I can confirm that they rely on memorization and not critical thinking. And honestly this is the reason I switched to an International School. The amount of stress was just unbearable, imagine having to arrive to school at 7:55am, going to bed at midnight due to studies and tutorials, having 6 chapters of Math in an Exam, Chinese Literature (ancient language) that is useless nowadays, needing to know what the author wants to tell us (I often end up questioning people how will teachers know the answer when they're not the author), students not knowing why they have to study those, teachers that can't even mark exams or unit test papers correctly, Physics formulas that you have to memorize without knowing how do people come up with that. (Just my experience in a local school) And if you ask me who to blame, it's the teachers and the Education department. If the teachers want their students to concentrate in class, then just make the lesson interesting, keep the students engaged. And don't get me started on the Education department, it has so many problems with it. One of them is the HKDSE (Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education) examination, you literally have to memorize 12 Chinese passages and answer questions for Chinese, that often leaves me and my friends wondering "Why do they have to determine our jobs or Universities based on 12 useless Chinese passages?" Like if you want to be a doctor, what does it have to do with what you learn in Chinese, English and Math? And why not grade us based on our dream jobs? Not to mention that the local Chinese students are literally suffering because the Chinese in Hong Kong was just too hard, and yet, the Education department didn't even reflect on it

As a formal Hong Kong student who moved to sydney, I can relate to this. However, note that all the education systems (except Finland) also have the problems that you pointed out, but it's just that Hong Kong is worse. Schools never prepare us for the future, and 90% of the knowledge they teach is useless or you would never use it in real life. Unlike Western countries, Hong Kong doesn't even use a laptop for school, so we wouldn't know the basic ICT skills like Word, Powerpoint, etc. They are also too exam oriented. We only have exams and there isn't any assignment which counts towards our grades. For example, we never learn how to write a scientific report for science, which is an essential aspect of science. We only do exams for every subject. However, a good thing about Hong Kong is that they teach better maths. Not only the maths are better than Western countries, but the textbooks and the way of teaching it is more clear and more logical. The maths textbook in sydney is much worse than Hong Kong. They give you questions that you haven't learned throughout the textbook. But still, Hong Kong is too stressed, and I also hope that the Education Bureau would do something to fix the system. It's so flawed that even the heads of the Education Bureau put their kids into international schools while trying to persuade parents to put their kids into local schools and embrace the flawed local education system to the parents.

Same i am studying at hong kong now and i can assure that there are stacks of homework and school time averaging 8 hours a day, and i am not even counting after school activities and revision for exams. As you pointed out, i seriously do not understand why we need to memorize and study useless stuff that we probably will never use ever again. It's just for university. Even funnier, is that those stuff are HKDSE curriculum. The Education department is definitely the one to blame. Even my parents told me memorizing is the key to success in exams. Now you see how ridiculous the education system is. And unfortunately for me, i was unable to study at a international school because my parents thought that the avaliable ones have too low banding. I think it's kind of the same with the Viet education system, of course not to extreme measures like these, but from what I've experienced, these things you said relate a lot to me. They force you to memorize a shit ton of stuff, repress opinions, put under constant stress of being a "flawless student", yadayadayada,... Same with how @VEN.3x3 phrased it, arriving to school at 7:45, going to bed at midnight due to studies and tutorials, memorizing 6 chapters for an exam, except Viet students just learn normal-ass literature thats not going to be relevant in normal day-today lives, same with those teachers, they "supposedly" know the answer when they're not even the author. I am an international student in China, and the normal Chinese schools really stress the kids out, it's really different from the international education that I felt, I used to go to a normal school, and I was dismissed around 8pm, homework was usually done until 12pm, and I was required to be at school at 7pm the next day, and I could only get a few hours of sleep a day, and the weekends were full of extra classes, which made you numb. And there were tests almost every day as the curriculum moved very fast. Chinese education is much more than that, and it pains me to say that last week three students in my area ended their lives because of the long periods of time without weekends and breaks, and I'm glad that I'm now experiencing an international education, otherwise I wouldn't be able to imagine my life.

As a CBC (Canadian born Chinese ). I think this is too much for a child to hold in their heart, My parents give me a lot of homework but they would still let me play and have fun and if a child does not have happiness they will not have a good childhood ❤

I'm Chinese I feel like the rest of the world should be like this but there shouldn't be that harsh punishments. I think they should study hard to get successful but not having to do that much. I think China should give kids a bit more free time as well.

My parents are, at some points, become really strict and they only let me play 30 minutes on Sunday, and how is 30 min enough??? What can I do in 30 min? Im Chinese American born to Immigrant parents yeah my mom is very strict. Curfews in college. And yeah im so used to being a people pleaser. My mom says video games are bad.

As a Filipino student who studies in an international school in Qatar, my parents wanted me do good in school, and they don't pressure me to always study. They also help me understand lessons that I'm having difficulty with and are like teachers to me. And they let me relax whenever I'm done with my homework. This is really sad to watch that the fact that china's education system is pressuring student to become "perfect" and giving the lack of freedom is horrible. And I agree it's invading the student's privacy and monitoring them 24/7 is terrifying.
We have to do over 5 HOURS of homework every single day coming back home at 8pm after night study and we wake up at 5-6 am for 7am school. Some of the people are sick and do their homework IN HOSPITAL! China is too strict with education and I am SO jealous of other schools 😭

4:00 i had watched this vid before but it never occurred to me how similar I am to this boy. being the firstborn not only did i always have to be the best and perfect but I also had to teach them while simultaneously having to study my own subjects and last time my brother failed in one of the subject, he started saying how bad of a teacher i was and i was doing it intentionally. I'm a fellow Chinese-Korean who migrated to Australia at a young age. Although I believe that kids should have discipline, this is going too far. I have ADHD, and if literally yawning or losing focus for 1 second would get you into trouble, I would not survive.

This is a grade seven student from Hong Kong, China. I'm in a school where there are quite a lot of Mainland students, and I must admit that they are certainly better than us in many ways, for example, Chinese, Mathematics, Physical Education, and more importantly, endurance. They try as hard as they can in everything, and most of them have expectations of themselves that are as high as the sky. My school is one of the top schools in Hong Kong, so everybody is pretty smart in general, but I really feel like the students from Mainland China is really more disciplined than us Hong Kong students.

A Vietnamese myself, I already feeling a lot of pressures from learning in academies to academies just to try and get a scholarship somewhere abroad. I can say no one else will enjoy this type of pressure. I have to learn English, math, literature. Those 3 subjects I studied each one 3 times each time 3 hours per week. And near future I be learning German and French. You know the pressure is really high when your whole calendar is just studying and studying, homework and homework. Just imagine have to walk home after school, can't take a shower nor dinner and go directly to another campus to learn the same thing you learn at school but more harder and advance. This is just a bit of what most Vietnamese been through, Im lucky because I study in a non public school. If we take a look at South Korea, it another hell on Earth, one of my friend he have to study from 6 am every morning until 2 am the next day before he can go to sleep.

I was also very surprised to see the Chinese-style education on TH-cam. As a Grade Three student, it is not easy to go to bed before 12 o 'clock. Our school needs to arrive at school before 7:20 in the morning and finish school at 7:00 in the evening. 00, almost every month to take the exam, and now the final exam, the school will assign a lot of papers every day, about each subject (a total of 7 subjects) by learning to depression is not only me, we weekends and weekends are a luxury, really envy the foreign education system... At least a little more time off

It's not as extreme in India but the students here do have some unhealthy amount of pressure on them. It actually comes down to the population and the job market. The competition is extreme and you need to take extreme measures to get a job better than other people.
As a chinese student myself I got beat or hit by some of the teachers before and one dragged me out the classroom because I was not doing something well and just dragged me out as like a dead person
This is actually sadly true in my old school in China, this is why my mom and dad moved to Australia because I actually almost died from studying nonstop for 2 days without food and water or sleep due to the extreme pressure it had on me… I’m 13 now.
As a Chinese person who has lived in China and received their education. I don't know if I have a say in this because I went to a IB program school but can confirm the workload is heavy but I have friends from public school and they are pretty happy and says they don't mind. Just note that most schools in China don't have chips or CCTVS. I do agree this school has taken it too far but please don't say all the schools in China are like this. My friends do complain about their teachers expecting them to memorize whole essays and I have done that before but they still don't mind. Also not all parents are like the ones in this video.
I- have experienced this.. as I was a student in china. But now I'm in a different country (since my parents are not dumb and moved out). I can say that this this so so bad, and the amount of control and pressure is just- un able to describe. A few of my classmates have thought of even dying once or twice.. and the controlling is just- too much.
I’m a Chinese American, I lived in china till I was 5. Lemme just say, it was really hard. They discipline there kids at a very young age. Coming into the u.s (adopted). I already knew most table manners. They would also only give u 2 meals or 3 meals but little amount in the orphanage. Not to mention I only had 1 pair of clothes. I had a heart disease so it made it really harder for me.
Education is only A path to have a wonderful life not a mainstream path. Education is to be loved not to be hated or forced. We have to remember that there are other opportunities that we can grow in and live happily. Till the child is in about 10th class he/she would have most of the needed knowledge in order to understand and what to choose.

that’s pretty tense, but my dad makes me learn on Saturday. First he makes me read chinese on his laptop for 30min, then he makes me read a Chinese book (which dad reads most of it but I still read some sentences) for 40min (it felt like 40.) then he makes me do his really hard math questions that are for like 6th grade Canadian that usually takes me 2 days. So I kind of know what that feels like.

I am a Hong Kong student. The pressure in the schools are tough. Sure, we aren’t monitored 24/7, but in my class(the ‘smartest’ kids), we constantly feel the pressure. Once, I got a 93 in English and a 96 in Chinese. And what did I do? I cried. Loudly on the way home. The system here is not as bad, but it’s tough for kids like us. Our teachers think we are geniuses, and expect us to get at least 80-90%. I think I’m scared of algebra now because I can’t understand it, unlike most kids in my class.

I know i'm commenting a year late, but I seriously cannot imagine having cameras track my YAWNING. I yawn an unnatural amount of times in class (it's almost like hiccups) even though i'm not sleepy, I still yawn A LOT. Yet I am always listening super attentively and have perfect grades. I don't think yawning is a good sign that you're sleepy or not paying attention.

Both. Why so? It's also in Malaysia. We learn Chinese there. I spent like 20 MINS on this art, and teacher declined. But it did help me get my exam in math slightly faster. Indonesian here. I can say, the education system here are not too strict but not too free either, it depends on how the teacher teaches but there are some basic rules and additional rules, but I can surely tell you that attentiveness and discipline can change from the teacher itself and not how the rules or teacher applies tools. Seeing China progress in a way that is really concerning and pretty much controlling, they apply these things to the children without seeing the side-effects. While it's working, it is certainly risky and controlling. It's just an example of: "If you can, doesn't mean you should."
There needs to be a balance-the right amount of control just enough to instill learning and discipline, and the right amount of leisure or 'letting go' to avoid results such as those shown in the video.
As a Chinese person, I can also quite say that Chinese schools are pushing their students too far. I study at en international school, not a Chinese school, and my schooling is uncomparable to how harsh those schools' school life is. They have so little leisure time that they can't even enjoy holidays anymore. I've never seen a Chinese student who enjoys school, unlike me and some students at my school. At first, I thought it was just typical, but now I think that this video truly explains the matter of why it happens.

we have a similar importance of following rules in singapore, but our education is not very stressful and you have at least 3 hours a day to have some free time. At the same time in school, we learn a lot of things.
I am from India, and we are actually allowed to have free time, in fact after homework, our whole day is us playing outside. But then your parents scream at you when you don’t get a 100. It’s honestly even worse since you didn’t even study, and your parents don’t want you to, they just expect an automatic 100.
I agree tho, I'm chinese but i was born in Italy and when I was a little girl still going to kindergarten my parents sent me to China to learn because they thought they would work in Italy to earn more and then come back to China forever, but I was so "emo" because in kindergarten I couldn't do math (we already learn when we are little kids) and I used my fingers cuz I suck in math and the teacher yelled at me then I cried so bad lol. School is for education not stress. Learning is important, but that's doesn't mean you should be tormented to extreme lengths as if that was the only way. You can still have an education while being allowed to be a human for one second.
I am from China and I had studied in China for abt 7 years until I moved to Singapore when I was P2. When I was studying in kindergarden , we already needed to learn words and Math.Then,I was studied in a international school when I was Primary 1 and it was not rlly too bad(since its a internatuonal school Ig?But we still learn almost same thing as government schools but just learn English earlier)But I must admit,my cousins are studying in China and it was overwhelming. I do agree that China is pushing students way too far in terms of education. I often hear about how Chinese students receive the most amount of homework out of any country, but I didn’t think it was this bad. Singapore is also known for being one of the best in academics, and as a Singaporean, we definitely have a lot of pressure placed on us, but UNIFORMS WITH CHIPS AND CCTVs? That is too far. Give these kids a break. There is no point forcing them to become the best if they can’t even take a rest. They are humans, not academic machines. Cut them some slack.

I can't even imagine what it's like to literally wear a device that tracks your brain all the time. As a Filipino student, there's a small amount of expectations my mom gives me when it comes to school, but she doesn't force me to study 24 hours. She understands that the way for me to learn is in my own pace and she encourages me to have fun because, as she said, you can only be a youth once.
Not to mention the school she enrolled me to encourages independent learners. We have an aloted day on where there will be no teacher, but they expect us to study on our own.

As someone who studied in China before, i can first hand tell you that the education system has many flaws, we are put under constant presure of being “the best” at everything and thats what most parents expects of their children, we have lesson almost 8hours a day and some even up to 10, plus bullying is also a major issue cus even if you report it, chances are the teachers dont give a sh-, but what i hate the most was that the schools forces you to memorise a sht ton of stuff and the teachers are allowed to hit you 💀
this is related in nepal too, but the only thing that is different from the above things you mentioned in our schools are that bullying is very rare in nepali schools and we have either 7 hrs of school at total in a day, or less.

As a person who studied at an international school in Shanghai, even I was not fully aware of this. I just heard rumors of schools treating students poorly, and teaching them to hate Japan and the U.S. Before this, I only knew about the heavy workload and stress. But do remember, this is only some schools in China.
Edit: Most other schools's problems are just heavy workload and some stress when it comes to high school exams. Though I know that stress isn't good, their situation a lot better to the types of schools shown in this video (coming from a priviliged asshole who can't even speak chinese at a high level). And before anyone says anything, yes, VPN is illegal in China, but the law itself isn't enforced, unless you are seen directly using a VPN in front of high-ranking officials.

As a student who used to study in local schools in Hong Kong, I can confirm that they rely on memorization and not critical thinking. And honestly this is the reason I switched to an International School.
The amount of stress was just unbearable, imagine having to arrive to school at 7:55am, going to bed at midnight due to studies and tutorials, having 6 chapters of Math in an Exam, Chinese Literature (ancient language) that is useless nowadays, needing to know what the author wants to tell us (I often end up questioning people how will teachers know the answer when they're not the author), students not knowing why they have to study those, teachers that can't even mark exams or unit test papers correctly, Physics formulas that you have to memorize without knowing how do people come up with that. (Just my experience in a local school)
And if you ask me who to blame, it's the teachers and the Education department. If the teachers want their students to concentrate in class, then just make the lesson interesting, keep the students engaged. And don't get me started on the Education department, it has so many problems with it. One of them is the HKDSE (Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education) examination, you literally have to memorize 12 Chinese passages and answer questions for Chinese, that often leaves me and my friends wondering "Why do they have to determine our jobs or Universities based on 12 useless Chinese passages?" Like if you want to be a doctor, what does it have to do with what you learn in Chinese, English and Math? And why not grade us based on our dream jobs? Not to mention that the local Chinese students are literally suffering because the Chinese in Hong Kong was just too hard, and yet, the Education department didn't even reflect on it

As a formal Hong Kong student who moved to sydney, I can relate to this. However, note that all the education systems (except Finland) also have the problems that you pointed out, but it's just that Hong Kong is worse. Schools never prepare us for the future, and 90% of the knowledge they teach is useless or you would never use it in real life. Unlike Western countries, Hong Kong doesn't even use a laptop for school, so we wouldn't know the basic ICT skills like Word, Powerpoint, etc. They are also too exam oriented. We only have exams and there isn't any assignment which counts towards our grades. For example, we never learn how to write a scientific report for science, which is an essential aspect of science. We only do exams for every subject. However, a good thing about Hong Kong is that they teach better maths. Not only the maths are better than Western countries, but the textbooks and the way of teaching it is more clear and more logical. The maths textbook in sydney is much worse than Hong Kong. They give you questions that you haven't learned throughout the textbook. But still, Hong Kong is too stressed, and I also hope that the Education Bureau would do something to fix the system. It's so flawed that even the heads of the Education Bureau put their kids into international schools while trying to persuade parents to put their kids into local schools and embrace the flawed local education system to the parents.

Same i am studying at hong kong now and i can assure that there are stacks of homework and school time averaging 8 hours a day, and i am not even counting after school activities and revision for exams. As you pointed out, i seriously do not understand why we need to memorize and study useless stuff that we probably will never use ever again. It's just for university. Even funnier, is that those stuff are HKDSE curriculum. The Education department is definitely the one to blame.

I am an international student in China, and the normal Chinese schools really stress the kids out, it's really different from the international education that I felt, I used to go to a normal school, and I was dismissed around 8pm, homework was usually done until 12pm, and I was required to be at school at 7pm the next day, and I could only get a few hours of sleep a day, and the weekends were full of extra classes, which made you numb. And there were tests almost every day as the curriculum moved very fast. Chinese education is much more than that, and it pains me to say that last week three students in my area ended their lives because of the long periods of time without weekends and breaks, and I'm glad that I'm now experiencing an international education, otherwise I wouldn't be able to imagine my life.

As a Filipino student who studies in an international school in Qatar, my parents wanted me do good in school, and they don't pressure me to always study. They also help me understand lessons that I'm having difficulty with and are like teachers to me. And they let me relax whenever I'm done with my homework.
This is really sad to watch that the fact that china's education system is pressuring student to become "perfect" and giving the lack of freedom is horrible. And I agree it's invading the student's privacy and monitoring them 24/7 is terrifying.
We have to do over 5 HOURS of homework every single day coming back home at 8pm after night study and we wake up at 5-6 am for 7am school.

I went to China a few months ago and I’ve overheard so many parents concerned about their children’s heath because of these schools
I'm a fellow Chinese-Korean who migrated to Australia at a young age. Although I believe that kids should have discipline, this is going too far. I have ADHD, and if literally yawning or losing focus for 1 second would get you into trouble, I would not survive.

This is a grade seven student from Hong Kong, China. I'm in a school where there are quite a lot of Mainland students, and I must admit that they are certainly better than us in many ways, for example, Chinese, Mathematics, Physical Education, and more importantly, endurance. They try as hard as they can in everything, and most of them have expectations of themselves that are as high as the sky. My school is one of the top schools in Hong Kong, so everybody is pretty smart in general, but I really feel like the students from Mainland China is really more disciplined than us Hong Kong students.

This video reminded me of the online classes back when the COVID-19 was still a major threat. I shuddered after, because I was crying a lot back then.
A Vietnamese myself, I already feeling a lot of pressures from learning in academies to academies just to try and get a scholarship somewhere abroad. I can say no one else will enjoy this type of pressure. I have to learn English, math, literature. Those 3 subjects I studied each one 3 times each time 3 hours per week. And near future I be learning German and French. You know the pressure is really high when your whole calendar is just studying and studying, homework and homework. Just imagine have to walk home after school, can't take a shower nor dinner and go directly to another campus to learn the same thing you learn at school but more harder and advance. This is just a bit of what most Vietnamese been through, Im lucky because I study in a non public school. If we take a look at South Korea, it another hell on Earth, one of my friend he have to study from 6 am every morning until 2 am the next day before he can go to sleep.

I am chinese, However not born in china, my mum raised me in Australia, and i thank her so much for it. She told me when I was young that, she moved here so I could get a better life, I indeed did, I thank my mum everyday for moving here, I can’t imagine being in china right now. I will indeed visit but won’t ever move there.
I’m actually in Shanghai in a Chinese school (but I’m going to a new school this year)and this is just too far and my classmates aren’t that stressed and their parents aren’t that bad so maybe they’re just other schools that are that stricter but all of my friends aren’t that bad they’re all funny and crazy in good way but yeah if you’re school is that strict I’m so sorry for you

It's not as extreme in India but the students here do have some unhealthy amount of pressure on them.
It actually comes down to the population and the job market. The competition is extreme and you need to take extreme measures to get a job better than other people.

As a chinese student myself I got beat or hit by some of the teachers before and one dragged me out the classroom because I was not doing something well and just dragged me out as like a dead person

This is actually sadly true in my old school in China, this is why my mom and dad moved to Australia because I actually almost died from studying nonstop for 2 days without food and water or sleep due to the extreme pressure it had on me… I’m 13 now.

As a Chinese person who has lived in China and received their education. I don't know if I have a say in this because I went to a IB program school but can confirm the workload is heavy but I have friends from public school and they are pretty happy and says they don't mind. Just note that most schools in China don't have chips or CCTVS. I do agree this school has taken it too far but please don't say all the schools in China are like this. My friends do complain about their teachers expecting them to memorize whole essays and I have done that before but they still don't mind. Also not all parents are like the ones in this video.
I- have experienced this.. as I was a student in china. But now I'm in a different country (since my parents are not dumb and moved out). I can say that this this so so bad, and the amount of control and pressure is just- un able to describe. A few of my classmates have thought of even dying once or twice.. and the controlling is just- too much.
I’m a Chinese American, I lived in china till I was 5. Lemme just say, it was really hard. They discipline there kids at a very young age. Coming into the u.s (adopted). I already knew most table manners. They would also only give u 2 meals or 3 meals but little amount in the orphanage. Not to mention I only had 1 pair of clothes. I had a heart disease so it made it really harder for me.

Till the child is in about 10th class he/she would have most of the needed knowledge in order to understand and what to choose.

that’s pretty tense, but my dad makes me learn on Saturday. First he makes me read chinese on his laptop for 30min, then he makes me read a Chinese book (which dad reads most of it but I still read some sentences) for 40min (it felt like 40.) then he makes me do his really hard math questions that are for like 6th grade Canadian that usually takes me 2 days. So I kind of know what that feels like.

I am a Hong Kong student. The pressure in the schools are tough. Sure, we aren’t monitored 24/7, but in my class(the ‘smartest’ kids), we constantly feel the pressure. Once, I got a 93 in English and a 96 in Chinese. And what did I do? I cried. Loudly on the way home. The system here is not as bad, but it’s tough for kids like us. Our teachers think we are geniuses, and expect us to get at least 80-90%. I think I’m scared of algebra now because I can’t understand it, unlike most kids in my class.
IDK what to say after watching the whole video but they are so focused and well determine. Like just going to the flow. Too much hard working like killing yourself but they knew what it lasts. Life is short.
I know i'm commenting a year late, but I seriously cannot imagine having cameras track my YAWNING. I yawn an unnatural amount of times in class (it's almost like hiccups) even though i'm not sleepy, I still yawn A LOT. Yet I am always listening super attentively and have perfect grades. I don't think yawning is a good sign that you're sleepy or not paying attention.

Both. Why so? It's also in Malaysia. We learn Chinese there. I spent like 20 MINS on this art, and teacher declined. But it did help me get my exam in math slightly faster. They get used to it quickly especially here. And I every single WEEKDAYS, my expressions turn off completely because of this. Unless some classmates who are b*ces and challenge my emotions, i was like: could you be fudging hallucinating???? Are you even looking what I'm looking?????? But they didn't install bars. I should've picked badminton. It's slightly easier than table tennis. I'm not writing an essay BTW.

I'm a 10 year old Chinese student and my teachers keep punishing me for no reason.
Indonesian here. I can say, the education system here are not too strict but not too free either, it depends on how the teacher teaches but there are some basic rules and additional rules, but I can surely tell you that attentiveness and discipline can change from the teacher itself and not how the rules or teacher applies tools. Seeing China progress in a way that is really concerning and pretty much controlling, they apply these things to the children without seeing the side-effects. While it's working, it is certainly risky and controlling. It's just an example of: "If you can, doesn't mean you should."
There needs to be a balance-the right amount of control just enough to instill learning and discipline, and the right amount of leisure or 'letting go' to avoid results such as those shown in the video.
As a Chinese person, I can also quite say that Chinese schools are pushing their students too far. I study at en international school, not a Chinese school, and my schooling is uncomparable to how harsh those schools' school life is. They have so little leisure time that they can't even enjoy holidays anymore. I've never seen a Chinese student who enjoys school, unlike me and some students at my school. At first, I thought it was just typical, but now I think that this video truly explains the matter of why it happens.

I agree tho, I'm chinese but i was born in Italy and when I was a little girl still going to kindergarten my parents sent me to China to learn because they thought they would work in Italy to earn more and then come back to China forever, but I was so "emo" because in kindergarten I couldn't do math (we already learn when we are little kids) and I used my fingers cuz I suck in math and the teacher yelled at me then I cried so bad lol.
The second reason is that I always cry because I miss my mother and I had slapped my grandfather and I don't remember why but maybe it was about the problem of study that I studied too much.

School is for education not stress. Learning is important, but that's doesn't mean you should be tormented to extreme lengths as if that was the only way. You can still have an education while being allowed to be a human for one second.
I am from China and I had studied in China for abt 7 years until I moved to Singapore when I was P2. When I was studying in kindergarden , we already needed to learn words and Math.Then,I was studied in a international school when I was Primary 1 and it was not rlly too bad(since its a internatuonal school Ig?But we still learn almost same thing as government schools but just learn English earlier)But I must admit,my cousins are studying in China and it was overwhelming. Imagine u have like 30 exam papers to deal with for holidays💀I would be so overwhelmed . And parents also give high expectations which is kinda unrealistic and make the child very stressed
