Would be remiss not to mention the power of longhouses since you can fit most things, barring ore, into them. If you've been doing well in the food game to the point of having a glut of reds and yellows, make them work for you by sticking them in a longhouse! Unlike certain islands, the longhouse can be netting you points incredibly quickly. The 4V space of "2 x stone and wood = longhouse + knarr / house + longship" is one of my favourite spots for this very reason. Relatively uncontested, plus any points from the occupation card as well. You're oftentimes going to want a knarr anyways, either for an island or for upgrading your green goods. Even an early longhouse can net you more food from bonuses that can, guess what, go towards filling another longhouse!
That was great thank you! I found myself wanting you to walk through a strategy from the beginning through a couple of rounds. Anyway that was terrific
Two niggles I'd add: (1) avoid getting the Faroes in the base game; it's incredibly hard to fill if you're a new player, and worth almost no points (this was remedied in the expansion). (2) avoid buying animals in the base game, as it's a fiddly and underpowered strategy. If you DO nonetheless buy them, plan to upgrade them in the last or penultimate round to cover your homeboard's negatives; the small amount of VPs they are worth is nothing compared to the ease with which they can fill up your homeboard.
I do not agree. I have played both the base version and the Norwegians expansion a ridiculous amount of times. Animals are VITAL in covering -1 squares on home boards. Animals cannot be a main focal point, however it is important to remember you can cover squares that would usually give bonus. Animals help a lot with that. -If possible play an occupation card that allows a coin for an upgrade in certain areas of the map, -if not, focus with 4 round to go until finish, on upgrading (if you have already focused on securing animals a prior round). The expansion adds more layers to this but willing to discuss if anyone wants to. Animals are vital in this game. The Norwegian expansion understands this with the base layer. Hence makes animals A LOT harder to get with the Norwegians.

Thanks for this. Looking forward to giving this another go.
Awesome video thanks. Really didn't feel like reading the manual😂
