"It Can't Come Quickly Enough" is a song that still cuts deep into my heart every time I hear it, because it takes me back to the way I felt at the loneliest, most desolate times in my life...when I felt like I should end it all. But if I had, the beauty of that song is something I would've never gotten to appreciate. So thanks, Jake. Thank YOU for everything!
Hey Jake, your thoughts are inspirational to young and old a like. How awesome being a success and respected artist such as yourself. Here's to all you are and more! ~Orlando ppl
This was just what I needed. I have had some really shitty time in my life right now, but you made me feel like there is still hope and that things can change. It gets better.
This is one of the countless reasons that I love Jake. He articulated it so well, saying that people who are mistreated because of their differences can use the pain and/or rage to create a better life for themselves. One of my friends was bullied for being gay when he was in high school, and his parents gave him a lot of grief when he came out to them. Since that time, they have come around, and he is now a very successful businessman who works at Google. His past made him a fighter.
You are definitely an example to, a ray of light and hope to show and see that "it Gets Better". Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and experience with us and to say to every QUEER out there not to give up and loose hope because "IT GETS BETTER". Thank you!!!. XXXX
You are absolutely adorable, sweet, articulate and I now officially have become a fan. I hate so much that you had to experience those things when you were young, but you are right, they have made you who you are today, which is awesome.
Thank you so much for this video. I love that it was open and honest and so obviously from the heart. I'm spreading this video around as much as possible.
What a great vid by Jake Shears......and man could I identify with the issues he brought up-------especially with the anger that, like him, I still feel when I come face to face with the disease of homophobia. Thanks for posting.
Loved your concert in SF last Friday. My first ever Scissor Sisters concert. Was part of a group from ACT. Definitely looking forward to the work you're doing for Tales of the City. Love you! Keep being fabulous and awesome!
Jake, I love the band and I think this video says so much and does a lot of good for people out there that are feeling lost and confused. I'm completely straight, but you know what? I thank God that there are people like you out there, spreading the word like this. Good for you, man, keep it up. You can reach a lot of people in your position and its great that you have something inspirational and meaningful to say.
i realised those who were bullied in school tend to turn out to have amazing personalities and confidence. makes me kind of want to be bullied too so that i can turn out like them
I love you Jake! =) Thanks, really thanks a lot! This speech is beautiful!! I watched this video at least ten times and will continue to watch it whenever I feel sad, thanks again!!^^
Hey I am Megan. I am 12 years old. I am straight but yet I aprove SO much of this project. I believe that everyone has the right to love who ever they wanna love and should NEVER be made fun of for it. You will (if not already) find someone who excepts who you are and loves you for who you are. Lady GaGa says that you were born this way so why not embrace it? I am proud of how much progress our nation has made by helping all the beautiful gays, lesbians and homosexuals. IT GETS BETTER.
Jake - wonderful message. Thank you for representing and offering your life experiences to convey an important message to our young gay peers. I saw you last night in San Diego at the Lady Gaga concert -awesome performance man - I love the Scissor Sisters! You are freakn beautiful, and evidently on the inside too man.
Wow. Your story is very much like mine! I'm 23, but I came out in Middle school to a friend of mine, (I was like 12), and she ended up telling someone and it spread like wildfire. I was bullied every single day, between classes. The teachers acted like nothing was happening, I was getting spit on, verbal abuse, I failed all my classes and everything. It was very hard. Thanks for your message you gave me hope!
Jake - the message you and so many others are putting out is long overdue. Those of us who have survived the teen years into adulthood do know how much better and rewarding life gets after high school. I too attempted suicide 3 times in a 2 week period when I was 18. Thanks God I survived to see "It does get better" I will turn 50 next January. BTW - "LOVE" the Tom of Finland shirt!!!!!!
This was extremely inspiring. I've been a huge fan of Scissor Sisters since my friend made me an AMv featuring one of their songs. During highschool I began a relationship with another boy from another school and well. Before that I was depressed all the time, school issues, work issues, familial issues, but every time I went over to his family's apartment and he greeted me with a hug, all that went away. After watching this video I finally decided to say 'fuck it' and came out to my parents.
What an inspring video! Jake Shears has done a terrific job here. He tells it like it is: He tells gay youngsters that they are okay and that their lives will improve, and that those who are attacking them are the ones who are wrong. I loved his comment on how school administrators who allow anti-gay bullying to ocurr should be put in gaol. I couldn't agree more. He, also, shows that having a good-looking gay guy out front is a real asset to a rock-and-roll band.
This is the stuff real artists are made of. You know the image and "power" you have, and you surely know how to use that in order to help others. Even though this is mainly based on your personal experience as a gay person, i think the message you are telling here can reach every person in the world that are feeling desperate about their problems. All people, artists or not, known around the world, should follow this example. Thank you for the message, and for being the amazing person you are!
You sir are an inspiration for all of us, I think you give out the right message, just saying "I'm gonna fucking be who I am and if you don't like it then theres a huge door for your huge ass to go through" Keep at it and I'll always be a SS Fan!!
Just hang on people. Hang on to your friends, to your dreams, to your passion. Given time, even the stars shift their position in the firmament, and if you feel like you are in the worst possible situation ever, just remember that the only way that can change is for the better.
Just want to say that religion isn't always a source of hate. When I came out the person who provided the most strength and comfort to my mother when she needed it most was her vicar. He never once showed me or her anything but compassion, understanding and wisdom. There are many, many Christians who really do show love and tolerance - sadly the ones who are filled with hate just seem to shout more. And Jake is a beautiful man with a beautiful soul.
Great to hear things have gotten better for you, Jake. Haters gonna hate. Thanks for being a great inspiration and be better than the BS you experienced in the past.
Wow, thank you so much for the inspiring thoughts. As a teenager, I know I felt so alone. Yep, I thought I was the only one. Fast forward 30 years and a move to California, I am now working on my CA teaching credentials. I agree with you--any teacher-administrator that turns the other way should be fired and or prosecuted. I feel a duty do my part to help questioning teens & adults who have to deal with the negativity that society dumps due to their own bias. Anyway...good luck take care.
I was felt the same way growing up and now I have had a pretty great successes life have my boyfriend of 7 years make great money have our house and live life. Thank you for your post
I love you and what you have to say. There are millions and millions of us, everywhere, all the time. We are who we are, made in the image and likeness of a Loving God. You are not alone!! Get quiet, allow your attention to drop from your head down into your heart. Just wait for it to happen. You will feel lots of peace and love. From this place, you will know who you really are. From this place you can ask for help and you will receive it .....NOW. I love you all.
I love the scissor sisters, and I love YOU, Jake! So keep up your awsome career, because I want to here more from you guys in the future! and BTDUBBZ: Nice shirt

"It Can't Come Quickly Enough" is a song that still cuts deep into my heart every time I hear it, because it takes me back to the way I felt at the loneliest, most desolate times in my life...when I felt like I should end it all. This is the most for real "It get's better" video I have seen yet. Awesomeness.
Thank you so much for this video. I love that it was open and honest and so obviously from the heart. I'm spreading this video around as much as possible.

The greatest thing you'll ever learn, is to love and be loved in return.
The dumbest thing you'll ever do, is to hate those who love different to you.
AMEN & RESPECT
