Thank for reminding me I've canned every meat but Turkey because my brother gifted us a few 27oz. Cans if Amish turkey and a couple cans if beef to. Every meat I've been buying chicken thighs because they were cheaper and would can the meat then make bone broth with gallon bag of veggie peels and canned the broth too. I canned meatloaves in widemouth pts, cooked ground beef in 1/2 pts. Meatballs and Salisbury steaks are precooked then canned. But I have switched too buying rotisserie chickens at $4.98 so much cheaper and still get bone broth from the bones. I've done 6 chickens that way so far. Next batch will be made into chicken sandwich spread for easier meals. I've even canned up potatoes, cabbage,gr.Beans ,tomatoes for easier meal making stews ,soups, mixed potatoes & diced carrots, cauliflower ,sliced potatoes for easy frying. I haven't tried canning mashed potatoes but I will try. With no milk tho.

Mashed potatoes are really too dense to can safely. There is a reason you don’t see commercially canned mashed potatoes in stores…it doesn’t work. Can potato chunks…then mash them for dinner. Been canning 55 years…safely. Nancy in east Texas

How long do you cook it for

@@JacquelineBeck-oj3iq It depends on how big your turkey so you just keep checking it but this one was done in about 5-6 hrs. I just l let it go for the day and checked it in the afternoon.

Why not cover the cooked Turkey with boiling chicken broth and then skip the salt?

@@nancycurtis488 wouldn't taste very good without salt but you can make it any way you want.

I have made several batches of broth from rotisserie chickens too but ours are about $8 now.
