I liked how this game toned down the combat and strayed away from occultism that the first Silent Hill had(Don't get me wrong, I loved the first silent hill and it did have a decent psychological horror aspect to it). Silent Hill 2 is just much more relatable due to its focus on sensitive topics. I mean Silent Hill had 11 weapons to use at your disposal (7 melee, 4 firearms).
I'm not fond of the intros in every video, but I guess I can't really be complaining since you were kind enough to upload these videos for us. Thanks a bunch, man.
The funny thing is I never even knew about the clues. I've always just headed straight for the apartments. Perhaps it's because I always knew where to go... this gives new insight. Thanks for putting these up 4 years ago!
I normally don't like intros into videos, but your video editing for the intro blurb is perfect and really sets the tone well. Great job on all of your walkthroughs that I've seen.
This is definately the best game of all the silent hills... and is possibly the best game ever. Great story, great character, chillingly awesome music and atmosphere, disturbing creatures... purely awesome
@XJamxBerryX: In the "Rebirth" ending he has the body at hand and in the "In Water" ending it suggests he committed suicide with Mary in the car. Although the "Leave" ending suggests Mary wasn't in the trunk because it'd be pretty fucked up taking care of a kid with her mother figure dead in your trunk... So it depends on the ending.
@Dogmachild Actually, most of the bodies in the game are dressed like James. And latter in the game, there is a body sitting on a sofa who IS James, even if it's not directly told or noted by him. This game is indeed full of symbolism, and that's why it's so scarying and interesting in the same way.
Its also there to emphasize the fact that you dont get experience, you dont get stuff, and monster will constantly respawn. This adds to the tension of being a regular guy in a extremely dangerous situation, rather than someone who can blow away anything that's not you (which is a gamers first game, but not real-life, instinct).
Wow I never knew about going to the bar this early and finding a map there to show where the key was! I'd found the key on my own just from exploring the first time I played. Also, it's cool how at the bar that ... other message on the wall isn't there yet for obvious reasons.
I'm not sure. The jacket Alex is wearing in Homecoming is tan, which means it's a desert-issue. Maybe his dad was in Desert Storm, but that would've been in the 90's. SH1 is supposed to take place sometime in the 80's.
Not every horror game needs to have things popping out at you every five minutes. Silent Hill is focused around the story and the atmosphere itself, not the combat. I'd rather be running around solving puzzles and looking for key items than shooting up zombies, because in my opinion, that's very mind numbing. Silent Hill is all about psychological horror; making you scared of things that sometimes not even there, and that's best done by making the game slower paced.
Hehe... I noticed this game also used the same format for naming the streets :) (In case anyone didn't know, the streets are named after authors- Ray Bradbury, John Saul, Stephen King, etc)
You know, I have the movie and have beaten all the games like 20 times (especially silent hill 2) but I haven't noticed it until now that when james is wandering through the alley (about 4:50) it looks just like the garages and alley in the silent hill movie.
@Furymgs3 Well if you're watching closely in the Woodside Apartments bit when he goes into the room with the pistol and the body that's, again, wearing his clothing then you watch the scene with him listening to the video from Mary at the hotel you notice...EXACT SAME POSE. So I'm guessing there's an implication that he's either 1) already dead or 2) He's being shown parts of himself that are dying based on his discoveries of these repressed thoughts.
@TheSnoozeFox Thx I'm already a big fan and I know this. I was just trying to put it out there that this game...has some very carefully placed things. Like...you find something new every time you play the metaphors and hidden messages are so intricately woven.
Compared to Amnesia The Dark Descent, this is just really tame. Dark descent is TRUE fear. This game whenever you find a monster you can just hit it with your weapon and its all gone.No shock tactics just constant gnawing fear at what is coming next, with NO WAY to defend yourself. Thats true fear.
Monica Horgan, the voice of Mary/Maria, vaguely remembers saying "James, I'm here; come to me. There's something following me; you said you keep me safe. James, why did you kill me? James!", or something in the like, on the radio.
i like utr intros and when u do ur walkthrough it should have details and pics of the game through out it and i think intros in each of ur filmswould be a great thing to watch it just tells u to get ready for the video
yeah but thats a little different as in the resi movie, its that swat team breaking in and they take the couple down stairs where all the bad crap happens, i think that could of happened during that though if you kinda think, as the mansion at that point was abandoned i guess
Lol, yeah. I saw the dead body at the end of the path and got the shivers. The straight jacket that pops out of the van you pass by nearly gave me a heart attack! I literaly went.."Shit!! Shit!! Aaahh!!" My sister nearly fell off the bed laughing. These games don't scare her as much as they scare me.
thats what makes Silent Hill into a psychological horror masterpeice... you just dont know whats happening most of the time... it adds an element of surprise i think...
yeah thats why this is one of the best games ever and one one favourites the whole concept and the atmospher scares the shit out of you i have finished silent hill the room and the homecoming and i love the both of them !!
A scary monster just attacked James and he get's out. Looking around he remembers something. "Oh yeah!" Pulling a radio out of his pocket he searches like a signal almost like he didn't just kill a freakish monster with a piece of wood.
The best Silent Hill game to many including myself is Silent Hill 2. The story really is amazing. My second personal favorite is Silent Hill 1. I would say that Silent Hill 2 is the most fun personally. But if you beat Silent Hill 3 and get the Light Saber then it can be fun pretending your in Star Wars haha.
I think what scares me most are the "random" sound effects. Like around 9:20. the squeeking/reeling sound. I don't know what's making it, I can't see but about 3 feet in front of me, and there are things everywhere. What the &%(^ is that sound?!
i have a theory, you know how when james dives into those holes, later in the game, and they symbolise him going deeper into his thoughts to discover the truth, well maybe the HOLE msg and how it says the hole is gone, means that james isn't ready to go deeper into his mind yet, he may be too caught up in his own web of lies that he cannot dive into these "holes" yet.
actually silent hill 2 is referencing silent hill 4, they likely had the idea for 4 already planned out, and decided to add a little note related to it. I silent hill 4 was referencing silent hill2 then something from 2 would be in 4.
and on the silent hill origins when travis needs to find the little gurl in the hospital( who was burned in the burning house) i just noticed that he didn't seem to care or doesn't know that the hospital has no people in it. even though its was so obvious. and still he tries to find the girl. and when every time they(im also referring to other silent hill games) enter the mirror it doesn't seem to bother them hahahaha
Well talkin' about PH here, when we first see him my brother was playing, (that what me n' my brothers do we do, we trade turns playing these type of games so we don't get overly agervated), in the apartment I was more "WTH is that doin?'" than "WTH is that?" . . .
i got in the apartment not doing most of those things.the game is only a bit scary in the apartment when i am in a fresh mood,i havent gone through the apartment just yet.
@shadowscorpion100: *SPOiLERS* James enters the Labyrinth which has no map. Pyramid Head randomly roams this place and is much faster than before. You eventually get out and get to the hotel, where the truth is revealed... *MEGA SPOILERS* Laura, the little girl, tells James that the last time she saw Mary alive was a week ago. James is shocked since she supposedly died 3 years ago. If you check your inventory the letter you received at the beginning is blank.
i love his reaction to the first monster. while anybody else would have been terrified and running away while screaming at the top of their lungs, his first instinct is to beat the monster to death with a stick.XD. then he desides to go further into town after seeing a disgusting monster. he must've thought he could handle anything after that monster. LOL
"Mr. President!" "Yes?" "We found the ideal punishment for our most notorius criminals!" "Excellent! And that is?" "A bus trip to Silent Hill!" * Stares at Downpour * Looks like they put their sinister plans in motion already...
Hate to tell you guys, but silent hill isn't in an alternate dimension... The town is imbued with a mystical power. The cult from the 1st/3rd games have perverted said power. Thus all the "monsters" in the game are the result of the towns power and the psyche of the individual. That's why Laura doesn't see monsters at all, her being innocent and all.
Gah. I was starting to think that this wasn't really worth watching until the endish where that monster crawls out from under the car. I enjoy scary games! =) Still waiting for Fatal Frame IV...
well later on in the game in the catacomb walters tomb is in there, i've heard that the names on the tombs are the names of some of the people who have ventured through silent hill. so maybe walter coulda gotten to silent hill through those holes z>_>
I don't have a playstation 2 anymore though. But I think it is for PC too. I'll think about it. But it's really one of those games I like to watch people who are good at them play, rather than play it myself. I am more action game oriented really.
@joseegreg I already played it at the GamesCom in Cologne (Germany) last summer. It's totaly different but the atmosphere is still creepy like in the first games I'm really looking forward to it =D
I was explaining why theres health and ammo scattered around the town. Not what the items are called. If you're going to get so butt hurt about what the makers call something in their own game, go write a complaint.
"Looking at this makes me feel like someone's groping around the inside of my skull."
Damn, that must be some feeling.
I liked how this game toned down the combat and strayed away from occultism that the first Silent Hill had(Don't get me wrong, I loved the first silent hill and it did have a decent psychological horror aspect to it). I remember watching this series as a kid. I finally refound this channels. Where does the time go.
I normally don't like intros into videos, but your video editing for the intro blurb is perfect and really sets the tone well. Great job on all of your walkthroughs that I've seen.
This is definately the best game of all the silent hills... and is possibly the best game ever. Great story, great character, chillingly awesome music and atmosphere, disturbing creatures... purely awesome
that was creepy as hell at 9:37
@XJamxBerryX: In the "Rebirth" ending he has the body at hand and in the "In Water" ending it suggests he committed suicide with Mary in the car.

Even though the game is only at its beginning I am already feeling a chill run down my spine. Such frightening atmospheric elements.
Probably the best SH ever made
I don't have this game but after watching this I really want it! Great game & thx 4 the walk-through!
"James...I'm here...come to me...why did u kill me..."
What the radio was saying.
Wow I never knew about going to the bar this early and finding a map there to show where the key was! I'd found the key on my own just from exploring the first time I played. Also, it's cool how at the bar that ... other message on the wall isn't there yet for obvious reasons.
This game scared me as a kid and it scares me now, but those things crawling under the vans kinda made me giggle XP
OMG
that totally freaked me out when that thing crawled out from under the van at 9:40 or something! :O
I'm not sure. The jacket Alex is wearing in Homecoming is tan, which means it's a desert-issue. Maybe his dad was in Desert Storm, but that would've been in the 90's. SH1 is supposed to take place sometime in the 80's.
I love your videos, really helpful. Thanks.

yah, its true after actually watching a few of my vids i noticed how annoying it is, so on my new vids ive decided to have no intro
11 years later and this game still gives me the creeps
holy crap, when that ting came out crawling from under the van, it scared the shit sickles out of me.
Hehe... I noticed this game also used the same format for naming the streets :)
(In case anyone didn't know, the streets are named after authors- Ray Bradbury, John Saul, Stephen King, etc)
I agree a monster crashes through the window during the original game. Some giant gird creature I think.
You know, I have the movie and have beaten all the games like 20 times (especially silent hill 2) but I haven't noticed it until now that when james is wandering through the alley (about 4:50) it looks just like the garages and alley in the silent hill movie.

never played SH games but i heard the 2nd one was the scariest..so im watching your walkthroughs =]
I love this game :).
James reminds me of Chris Potter from Kenan & Kel.
"I copied it onto my own map" :P
Also, he has a radio in his pocket X-P
Haha, me to, played them before, but can't stomach the emotional exhaustion anymore.
@TheSnoozeFox Thx I'm already a big fan and I know this. I was just trying to put it out there that this game...has some very carefully placed things. Like...you find something new every time you play the metaphors and hidden messages are so intricately woven.

I like the siren sounds in the first Silent Hill. Much more eerie.
yeah but thats a little different as in the resi movie, its that swat team breaking in and they take the couple down stairs where all the bad crap happens, i think that could of happened during that though if you kinda think, as the mansion at that point was abandoned i guess

it represents his internal suffering. Like he's in a strait-jacket and can't get out no matter how hard he tries.
@omutsukimi it lets you know when monsters are near rather than letting it a surprise
thats what makes Silent Hill into a psychological horror masterpeice... you just dont know whats happening most of the time... it adds an element of surprise i think...
when that lying figure was crawling that scared the crap a dap out of me!
I love how the creatures take strolls in the streets...
yeah thats why this is one of the best games ever and one one favourites the whole concept and the atmospher scares the shit out of you i have finished silent hill the room and the homecoming and i love the both of them !!
A scary monster just attacked James and he get's out. Looking around he remembers something. "Oh yeah!" Pulling a radio out of his pocket he searches like a signal almost like he didn't just kill a freakish monster with a piece of wood.
No it is also on the PS2 and Xbox.
The Xbox version comes with a small playable scenario with Maria.
My god that constant du dun, du dun banging noise in the background builds tension like nothing can D:
Now that's a high quality video game series.
@PenguinMP44 the clue to the silent hill games is to feel that you are in the town, not you are a soldier sent to exterminate zombies :/
I know how you feel, I was scared of the fourth for a while but I can watch this one without even being scared. Musta gotten used to it.
@MrHornyboy he's playing the pc version it's also on original xbox and ps2 and on 360 and ps3 in the hd collection
The best Silent Hill game to many including myself is Silent Hill 2. The story really is amazing. My second personal favorite is Silent Hill 1.
I would say that Silent Hill 2 is the most fun personally. But if you beat Silent Hill 3 and get the Light Saber then it can be fun pretending your in Star Wars haha.
nothin can beat the classics, just killing a monstrous being with a good, strong wooden board when absolutely no negative things will happen to you
@Dogmachild That's a very interesting fact you point out, and considering the differents endings, I agree with your second theory. ^^
This game really does give the sense that you are alone.
I think what scares me most are the "random" sound effects. Like around 9:20. the squeeking/reeling sound. I don't know what's making it, I can't see but about 3 feet in front of me, and there are things everywhere. What the &%(^ is that sound?!
Having radio static alert you to nearby bad guys is just genius.
i have a theory, you know how when james dives into those holes, later in the game, and they symbolise him going deeper into his thoughts to discover the truth, well maybe the HOLE msg and how it says the hole is gone, means that james isn't ready to go deeper into his mind yet, he may be too caught up in his own web of lies that he cannot dive into these "holes" yet.
Just re-bought this game today. Stoked.
Ah yes the ever essential broken radio! If you ever go to silent hill, you need this bit of equipment :D
In the first Silent Hill, Harry explored "Old Silent Hill". James explores a different part.
actually silent hill 2 is referencing silent hill 4, they likely had the idea for 4 already planned out, and decided to add a little note related to it. I silent hill 4 was referencing silent hill2 then something from 2 would be in 4.

What is that song that you use in the ntro of the video. Btw thanks for these walktrough viedos. That will help me.
I nearly pissed myself when the things starting skittering out from under vans...
i got in the apartment not doing most of those things.the game is only a bit scary in the apartment when i am in a fresh mood,i havent gone through the apartment just yet.
its nice they put some breathing room in the streets. in the first game there were 4 monsters per block now there are TWO monsters per block!
@shadowscorpion100: *SPOiLERS*
James enters the Labyrinth which has no map. Pyramid Head randomly roams this place and is much faster than before.
You eventually get out and get to the hotel, where the truth is revealed...
*MEGA SPOILERS*
Laura, the little girl, tells James that the last time she saw Mary alive was a week ago. James is shocked since she supposedly died 3 years ago. If you check your inventory the letter you received at the beginning is blank.
Because each world is created specifically for that person experiencing it.
in silent hill 2 it was all of James's torments.
i love his reaction to the first monster. while anybody else would have been terrified and running away while screaming at the top of their lungs, his first instinct is to beat the monster to death with a stick.XD. then he desides to go further into town after seeing a disgusting monster. he must've thought he could handle anything after that monster. LOL
@Dogmachild yeah its meant to be a sign of things to come kind of this game is full of metaphors and subliminal messages
Did he like totally just step through the pole at 1:10 when he was climbing through the gap?? lol Nice move!
The way the shadow wobbled last vid..creepy.
well, he didn't seem too upset when he saw the monster!
Silenthill origins is the prequel to the original silent hill and it sets up the story for Henry Mason.
the line "It's not human.." reminds me of Vincent's line in SH3( which I am not going to repeat for fear of people not liking spoilers).
I was scared shitless by the monster under the car lmao Nice game though :D
That's the radio, on almost every silent hill game that you encounter an enemy it will play something similar to that.
@OriginalDigit The way James runs is the comic relief in this game. xD
Silent Hill 3 would probably be after 2, because Douglas mentions going on a missing persons case (Assumed to be James)
Wow... can't believe James didn't saw this... mutant thingy as he went through the blockage HEAD ON and LOOKING FORWARD IN FRONT OF HIM.
@dmendoza231 you know there are two reference to sh4 in sh2. The hole and a newspaper clipping. I guess the creators were already planning sh4
"Mr. President!"
"Yes?"
"We found the ideal punishment for our most notorius criminals!"
"Excellent! And that is?"
"A bus trip to Silent Hill!"
* Stares at Downpour *
Looks like they put their sinister plans in motion already...
im pretty sure its one of the clues to the transition between the two worlds... not sure tho. hav u seen the silent hill 1 walk thru?
when i watch this i get shivers and i get scared if i was in that situation i would be scared to death
@MalevoloVerdugo Well considering SH2 came out before SH4, It's say it's the other way around.
Can I ask how do you captured all this video in the PC while you're playing?
well later on in the game in the catacomb walters tomb is in there, i've heard that the names on the tombs are the names of some of the people who have ventured through silent hill. so maybe walter coulda gotten to silent hill through those holes z>_>
I don't have a playstation 2 anymore though. But I think it is for PC too. I'll think about it. But it's really one of those games I like to watch people who are good at them play, rather than play it myself.

@daguas1988
Sure, that's why he said "It's not human"
@joseegreg I already played it at the GamesCom in Cologne (Germany) last summer.
It's totaly different but the atmosphere is still creepy like in the first games
I'm really looking forward to it =D
I thought that was cute :D
"There was a hole here... It's gone now" xD So funny xD
I was explaining why theres health and ammo scattered around the town. Not what the items are called. If you're going to get so butt hurt about what the makers call something in their own game, go write a complaint.
1:12 Who in their right mind would notice a radio before realizing that there was a warped, lava creature that was squirming RIGHT NEXT TO YOU?!
@shadowscorpion100: How far did you get anyway?
Hotel, prison, apartments, hospital?
@123LilSerb123: Because Silent Hill is on an alternate dimension.
The enemies definitely look a lot freakier than the ones in the first game.
