The only reason this doesn't happen in the Western world is cos the raw materials cost more than buying a new one. Sad fact and then the disguarded waste is shipped in containers to the East as a dump yard.. Such a shame. If only we can all afford to do this, we would take pride in doing something like this and for the environment. Plus this video would be better appreciated by the dislikers, that would just pollute the planet n get a new one at less price than to repair cos it's cheaper. But note this is not the case in the East. It's cheaper to buy fabric argan sew a dress, but in the West it's cheaper to buy a dress than spend lots of money on fabric and trimmings. So take a note to applicate the work. Well done!

My grandma would recover her chairs. Make clothes. Material used to be cheaper in 🇺🇸 but not for a long time. Mom made lots of clothes too. 7 of us kids. When my first was a baby I found it cheaper to buy at thrift stores. Pretty much still do. In beginning of this video, I thought I could do this to my sofa, then I realized the material would cost about the same or more. You are right. Many of us are wasteful.
I wish I could afford new but All our furnishings are used because I cannot justify in my mind spending a lot of $ for new when I can get good conditioned furniture for free or not much $.
This man did an awesome job. I would put new backing on though. ( the first material he put back on sofa.

@@ebear6555 I know what I mean. It's sad that we can't make things or upcycle and take pride cos just the raw materials and tools all add up to much higher or same as a new.. and yeah instead it's cheaper to buy second hand that's still almost like new. But still means we are chucking away our old...
Tbh most of the antique furniture have much better than cheap plywood or MDF. So those have a a value and are worth upholstering.
The material he reused is coconut coil it's what was used back in the day and in fact used today as well in mattress even for baby matertess and are very expensive in the western work when they use it. Its much more breathable, natural and u can wash it and dry it out. So it's not like a sponge that once it looses it plump u can get it back... It's not as comfortable as sponge but has a good firm backing as for a back rest it's comfortable but for your bum though 😆.
It's lovely that your mom made lots of clothing, that's the same with my mum and aunts too... Myself I studied fashion design but sadly living in the uk., It cheaper to buy a dress than sew😔 unless of course u use and old outfit to make something new... But still buying the thread, zip, buttons etc they all add up unless u had left overs.

Well now nearly 60 & no savings & can't seem to get a job....I get it. Hard lesson, but for some reason I still help when I can.

I agree Gordon, & I am Australian too...And now I see the inside makings of a couch, I plan to always lift up a chair or couch and look under it as well as the top. Ohh and also, when you have cushion's or extra padding made for a couch, always unzip it and see if they have sew the foam into a separate case, because you need this if you are going to remove the covers to wash them and another thing to check is if the inside of the coushion where the stitching is has been over-locked to prevent the material from fraying. It's not just about what it looks like but how well it's made...Rozz...Brisbane
