Love your Birch Pullover. Can hardly wait to knit your Olive and Beans sweater for my granddaughters. And our local yarn store had a version of your shifty cowl on display…so beautiful in person!! Wish I could knit faster!
I second Downshiftology. I have been using her recipes for years. I'm a Type 1 Diabetic with a sensitivity to wheat where my blood sugars skyrocket and I can't get them down for hours. I avoid it....she has been a lifesaver! Her recipes are simple and very yummy
Haha, I'm listening using an earbud and had to pause because I thought I heard my kids and wasn't sure what they were up to.. they seemed fine, so I continued the video to your saying you could hear your kids and hoped we couldn't... 😄
the same thing happened to me... I immediately took my headphones down and jumped from my seat to run and check my kids but when everything was silent here, I realized that they are in kindergarten... :D
I'm trippin' on that cowl color with the lipstick! This will be the offering to set the intention for my Friday . . . rocking' some bright color - bringing smiles to everyone I meet today.
Love watching and have learned a lot! Thank you. I did want to maybe contribute something helpful when it comes to plying. If you have under or over plyed, you can wind your yarn into a cake and run it through your wheel again to either remove or add additional twist. You can do this even if the yarn has been washed/soaked. Hopefully this info will help someone!
I really enjoy your styling tips. I'm not a super creatively fashionable person, so sometimes it can be hard to imagine how to wear something. Love the new cowl! This is the quintessential accessory item - I can see all the colors and experiments working with this pattern. This would be fantastic to give as gifts, too.
I love that cowl so much. Beautiful! I liked the story of your name & can relate to your advice. My youngest had a very deep dimple at the base of his spine when he was born. We told him he was born with a tail that was removed at birth. When he was in 2nd grade, we fessed up bc he told his teacher and class the story. Alas, our family joke came to an end. He’s fine, btw. He’s got a strong sense of humor.
Thank you for the recommendation for Downshiftology! As someone who has celiac, this is so helpful for me. I love that your family eats their gluten loaded pizza in another room. I totally get wanting a safe place to eat.
I love Downshiftology and I don't have any dietary restrictions - it's a great resource for everyone! Very healthy recipes and she's super organized. Love the new cowl and I love hearing your kids in the house!!😍😍😍
Plying tip! You can use a protractor or printed angle guage to measure the angle of the ply twist in your yarns. I like to measure yarns I like (or are similar to what I'm making) and then compare that to the ply twist of my sample or yarn in progress. Another option is to measure your "bumps per inch", as in how many times one of the plies bumps out along the side of a length of yarn. It will be different for every yarn but it can help you be consistent as you work on a single project. More bumps=more twist added, fewer bumps=less twist added.
Knitting on one of your sock patterns as I listen. Looking forward to checking out downshiftology. Our friend family is the land of misfit diets. We have figured out who can have what but always open to new options because we all do enjoy a good meal together.
I love Downshiftology and have watched for for a few years now. She has so many receipts geared toward various dietary needs. She just came out with her first cookbook last winter. So interesting to hear you talk about her channel. Love the new DRK cowl and can’t wait to make one or two.
Oh Andrea, I've loved every episode you've posted and this episode I think is my all time favourite. I found myself talking back to you. 😆🤣 Since the very first episode I have quite a lot of your patterns including your latest cowl, but the Weekender was the first one. I had planned to join in the #DRKspinittoknititKAL, but couldn't decide what size to knit, so when you suggested choosing the sleeve measurement, I was made up! So when I have completed a few UFOs it will be full steam ahead with the weekender and cowl! As a vegetarian I too keep a cooking journal, but when you said you had started watching Downshiftology I shouted out, "yay she's great". I've been following her for a couple of years now and find her videos so helpful. Thank you so much for spending time with us and sharing all your knowledge. ♥Please keep it up. 😉
What a great tip, choosing certain patterns based on arm circumferance, it makes so much sense for women with smaller bust measurements. Loving the Marilyn Monroe lipstick!!
I am a new crocheted, but have knit for years. My question is, would you block something really big, such as an afghan or even a baby blanket???? Thanks for answering an old ladies ???? Have a fun day!!!
Not sure if it was said , but if you are under spinning yarn you should try a smaller ratio so it puts more twist in the yarn without having to tredle like crazy.
For large gatherings I picked easy to break off recipes like Mac salad or potato salad every time I added something I’d break off some so that everyone’s “picky” was addressed. I never minded cuz growing up I was always sad finding dishes I couldn’t eat cuz they had xyz in them. Hope your doing well!
Currently 36 weeks pregnant and wearing my Weekender right now! (I’ve gained about 35 lbs). It’s definitely a forgiving pattern and one of the few hand knit pullovers that I’ll wear right now. Congratulations, Mama! I hope you enjoy knitting and wearing your new sweater.
Knitting small projects with hand spun is such a great way to have fun trying out yarn designs. I'm very much looking forward to seeing your cowl with the yarn you spin for it. So many choices. When you talk about your spinning process it would be really helpful to mention the WPI you spin the singles and the twist angle of the ply. It's my biggest challenge when it comes to spinning for a pattern. How to get it right to fit, or to drape, or to be durable etc. Thank you for this wonderful Q and A's. It's a great way to start the weekend:)
thank you for another great video. I am a new knitter and am watching your videos ravenously, they have helped me understand yarn composition and behavior so much, and feel confident in altering patterns (a little, lol, I'm not trying to reinvent the wheel). Your joy in knitting (and in life) is so apparent, and your eagerness to share what you have learned is a light. You have a gift in knowing how to talk to your audience and a skill in how you approach knitting methodically, yet with a touch of "yeah, try that modification." My favorite days are the ones where I get a new DRK video
I love your new glasses, Andrea! They look stunning on you! Love your new cowl and the orangish coloured one is amazing! Your shift cowl is the first of your patterns that I knit and absolutely loved the process and how it turned out. Thank you so much!
I knit the weekender after having my firstborn, during that postpartum time. I followed my postpartum bust size and wish I had gone with my pre pregnancy size because I ended up with a sweater way to large one year postpartum.
Your DRK everyday sweater was the first one I knitted, loved it and have done another 3. Subscribed to your newsletter and bought the cowl pattern as soon as I received it, can't wait to knit it. Love your patterns they're so easy to follow and understand.
I love the jewelweed color! I'm so going to do one like that. I love the kids in the background and you saying family life, soooo true! haha! I appreciate the downshiftology recommendation.. also celiac and it's hard when you get glutened. Takes a long time to bounce back. Thank you for the time! - kimberly
Hello! You were the first knitting pod I ever watched and was immediately hooked! I would not call it cheating but I have watched some other pods of late. Here is the thing….ALL of them mention you and your patterns. They are knitting your patterns or wearing their DRK knits. I am just wondering if you watch any knitting pods? I, also have celiac and I love when you touch on food and GF. So thank you so much for that.
Ok your Renee story was so funny. It’s true. My mom hurt her shoulder really bad at work when my sister and I were little. She had to go to a physio/rehab for about a week to fix it. My sister and I told everyone at school that our Mom went away to rehab…obviously without further explanation and you can imagine what people thought. I’m pretty sure my dad had to tell our teachers what really happened. Kids say whatever is on their minds. No filter. 😂
In terms of getting the “sweet spot” of twist in yarn while spinning, I’ve definitely found a spinner’s control card helpful! I do periodic checks with this and ply-back tests while spinning to make sure that I’m staying on track for what I’m looking for as I go.
My family has half vegetarians and half meat-eater/low carb. At dinner, my mom would cook one entree for either the meat eaters or the vegetarians, a vegetable for everyone, and leftovers for those that didn’t get a fresh entree. We would trade off every night. Kept her sane!
I love your name don’t change it It suits you Love your podcasts thank you Your scarfs are gorgeous !!! I will be knitting for Christmas gifts that I start in winter to have them done !!! You are such a sweetheart love tuning into your channel Have a great day !!! 💝💝 Debbie 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
I am a new follower and when someone asked about the Rose Cardigan I checked it out and LOVE the look and I'm excited to knit it. My question is...Do you have a sweater with the same type of sleeves?
Hi Andrea! Beautiful cowls, I bought the pattern as soon as I received your newsletter. Looking forward to cast on, but first want to finish the afterthought heels of my Curio socks. It will be an ‘dreareneeknits-month’😅
I wonder how many other moms had their guts clench when they heard your kids in the background! mine are at school, but I know that sound all too well and when I heard it I had a little *lurch*!!
Your name story is so funny!! It's the same as mine! I was supposed to be named Suzon and in the early sixties, lots of hospitals had chapels for baptisms and such. My mom had had a C-section and she was to remain in the hospital for 7 to 10 days. In those days, babies were baptized usually within a week of their birth or so. So my mom was in a pretty dressing gown, and sitting in a wheelchair when the priest asked her how I would be named and she surprised everyone, including my dad and my godmother, when she announced that my name would be Johanne!
Why is my gauge swatch often different from my gauge in the garment? Measuring way out in the sea of a sweater body stitches I often find my gauge is not the same as my swatch. Is there a better way to swatch than the little square? I do make it bigger than 4"x4" but it never seems to be enough.
Love that pop of color on you! I wasn't going to purchase that cowl.....butttt...I love the shift cowl, so I will love this one! And the fact u have all the sizes! Yes, with crochet, block before sewing. I've made the mistake of not doing thay first, and the pocket puckered!
My daughter is vegetarian and so since I don’t really care for meat I basically eat that way too. I cook vegetarian 98% of the time and he eats meat when he travels for work 🤣
Laughing at 6/7 yr old you and knowing exactly what you mean by "be careful what you tell your kids!" 😂 I always jokingly said that my husband's middle name was "Genghis" as in Khan, the ancient Mongolian invader/leader (it's actually Gerard). So my son is around the same age and tells HIS class and teacher about his dad's middle name! I do NOT know how his teacher kept her face straight! 😂😂 Glad I told him why as he had a reply when another kid said "That's not a real name!" 😂
Love your Birch Pullover. Can hardly wait to knit your Olive and Beans sweater for my granddaughters. And our local yarn store had a version of your shifty cowl on display…so beautiful in person!! Wish I could knit faster!
I thought it was my kids at first! They’re most likely making some noise right now too. I love that pop of red on you.
I second Downshiftology. I have been using her recipes for years. I'm a Type 1 Diabetic with a sensitivity to wheat where my blood sugars skyrocket and I can't get them down for hours. I avoid it....she has been a lifesaver! Her recipes are simple and very yummy
I love your business name all your knitting tips and I had never heard of downshiftology until you recommended her in your newsletter. Thank you

I love Lisa and her food from Downshiftology! I'm so giddy right now! It's like my "Beyonce" of fiber arts discovering my "Beyonce" of food!
I'm trippin' on that cowl color with the lipstick! This will be the offering to set the intention for my Friday . . . rocking' some bright color - bringing smiles to everyone I meet today.
You are always a pleasure to watch. You are always cheerful. The color of your new cowl you are wearing is definitely your color. ❤
Your cowl looks stunning against the neutral sweater. Stands out beautifully! 😊
Love watching and have learned a lot! Thank you. I did want to maybe contribute something helpful when it comes to plying. Love your patterns did get your drk cowl. Enjoyed your podcast today. Thank you
Love hearing your children in the background! Kids will be kids! Thanks for sharing your knitting knowledge.
I love that cowl so much. Beautiful! I liked the story of your name & can relate to your advice. My youngest had a very deep dimple at the base of his spine when he was born. I find it so charming to hear your kiddos playing! Glad they were having fun. :)
Same!! I smiled when I heard them ❤
Me too, but it’s late here and I was thinking whose kids are screaming outside! It’s very quiet here!😢
Thank you for the recommendation for Downshiftology! As someone who has celiac, this is so helpful for me. I love that your family eats their gluten loaded pizza in another room. I totally get wanting a safe place to eat.
LOOOOVE Downshiftology. She's brilliant.
Would love to see the DRK cowl made into a shaw, beautiful 😊
The color in your son's cowl reminds me of a blanket we 5 children always rallied for possession. (Fought over) so beautiful! So good!
I love Downshiftology and I don't have any dietary restrictions - it's a great resource for everyone! Very healthy recipes and she's super organized.
Love the new cowl and I love hearing your kids in the house!!😍😍😍
You look so adorable today, Andrea. I am headed over to download your cowl - love this.
Your new pattern is super cute and your design co. name is completely logical to me. Enjoy your weekend.

Obsessed with your cowl! Immediately bought the yarn in that exact color!!!!!! ❤️
You are adorable. I look forward to your weekly videos

Please don't apologize for the sound of children playing. It's the best sound in the world.

I love the new design and the glasses!
Ooo your red cowl is STUNNING! I think I want to spin for my 2nd weekender!
Great podcast thank you 🧶☕️☺️
I had to laugh out loud… when you were talking about your gluten free kitchen the ad break was for Dominos Pizza 😂❤
I love your name don’t change it

Hi there Andrea have you done a tutorial on the everyday cowl I’m having trouble getting started I seem to have to many stitches on
I wonder how many other moms had their guts clench when they heard your kids in the background! mine are at school, but I know that sound all too well and when I heard it I had a little *lurch*!!
I was wondering, just this morning, where your company name came from! Now I know. Lovely episode. Thank you. 🌷

what cotton yarn, if any, would you recommend for the DRK Everyday Cowl for spring/summer?
Check out Pick Up Limes if you like Downshiftology
Love that pop of color on you! I wasn't going to purchase that cowl.....butttt...I love the shift cowl, so I will love this one! And the fact u have all the sizes!
Yes, with crochet, block before sewing. I've made the mistake of not doing thay first, and the pocket puckered!
That’s too funny about your little 2nd grade self telling everyone to call you by your middle name! Haha little kids are so funny 😂
Those glasses, though. Edna Mode?

Thanks for recommending Downshiftology! I am now obsessed with her videos and going to make her falafel STAT. 👩🍳🙌🏻🧶
