I think we can all agree that if someone truly wants the best console experience they have to go with the Soulja Boy console. Talk about gone too soon RIP my friend 😂

I don't understand how we can objectively, honestly, and in completely good faith, look at PlayStation's 1st party output since the PS5 launched and call it "putrid". Seriously. Putrid? What are we even talking about? Ignoring the 3rd party moneyhat exclusives, the system still has a ton of stellar games that you can't get on other consoles.
    - Astro's Playroom
    - Returnal
    - Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart
    - Gran Turismo 7
    - Spider-Man 2
    - Helldivers 2
    - Astrobot
    - Demon's Souls
    - The Last of Us Part 1
Then of course you have the 3rd party stuff like:
    - Stellar Blade
    - Final Fantasy 16
    - Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
    - Death Stranding Director's Cut
And of course stuff that was simultaneously released on PS4, but are SIGNIFICANTLY better on PS5 due to 60fps, higher resolutions, and better responsiveness:
    - GoW Ragnarok
    - Ghost of Tsushima Remastered
    - Horizon Forbidden West
    - Spider-Man Remastered
    - Spider-Man Miles Morales
    - The Last of Us Part 2
And of course some cool upcoming games like:
    - Marathon
    - Wolverine
    - Ghost of Yotei
    - Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet
    - Fairgame$ (lol)
    - Phantom Blade Zero
And we're only 4 years in. By early 2018 the PS4 didn't have Spider-man, it didn't have God of War, it didn't have The Last of Us Part 2, it didn't have Dreams, it didn't have Ghost of Tsushima, and it didn't have a ton of other system defining games. Sure you can prefer the PS4's overall output, but to call PS5's exclusive line "putrid" is completely out of touch. Sorry dude.

By 2017 on the PS4 we already had (none of these games were released on PS3, or remasters)
      Kill Zone Shadow Fall
      Infamous
      The Order: 1886
      Until Dawn
      Bloodborne
      Uncharted 4
      Ratchet & Clank
      Horizon Zero Dawn
      The Last Guardian
      Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves
      Gran Turismo Sport
      Gravity Rush 2
& games on the horizon we already knew about by then were
      Ghost
      TLOU 2
      GOW
      Spider Man
      Shadow of the Colossus remake
      Days Gone
      Death Stranding
      Concrete Genie
      Dreams
I might’ve been a bit harsh on the PS5’s lineup so far, I’ll give you that. It’s just tough when comparing it to the last two generations of PlayStation first party exclusives. PS3 & PS4 had such a strong showing.& I also have such a sour taste in my mouth for the wasted resources on live service slop. But 100% agree about the third party exclusives, PlayStation is making fantastic moves in that regard.

This console generation has had to navigate the most temperamental gamers in history while having to adapt to the various outlets where their games and consoles are brutally targeted. Numerous people want to throw shade at a developer, and at times a console, for DEI content, whether you are okay with the content or opposed to it. It's a struggle for the entertainment industry period. I've had a PS5 since shortly after launch, while also owning a beefy PC gaming rig, and a Steam Deck. I bought a Series X and before opening, I returned it because I did not see what it could offer me over the PC, so I decided to save my $400.00. I think these consoles have done a rather good job of providing gamers with a beautiful gaming experience at a fair price. While I understand some of the mindset for exclusives, I also believe that people should be able to play every game on whatever console they have. For me, a console experience is more about how I feel when interacting with it... controllers, GUI, its store, etc I've never enjoyed Xbox's GUI on their last two generations while PS's GUI has changed pretty extensively over time, but I still find myself at home there. PS5 gets a B from me. Ultimate Game Pass gets a B-. It offers just enough to keep me interested.

I think your point about not having a need for an Xbox, and returning it is a big reason why the idea that games should be available everywhere, can be a bit tricky for console manufacturers. I don’t feel like you’re gonna be able to sell most people on the hardware, without exclusive software. Because if your selling point is who makes the most powerful machine, you’re gonna lose that battle everytime to PC. Great points tho man, definitely agree that this is prolly the most annoying generation of video game discourse ever lol.

    • @trey631
      @trey631 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

@ but as the argument has been brought up in the past that many gamers do not want a PC is true. Having to tinker with settings is something that most gamers do not want to deal with. With that, people who game on console will gravitate to whatever console makes them feel good. When you really sit down and look at, there is no difference between PS5 and Xbox Series X. Teraflops and RAM speed and load times are all muddled within the two. I believe that most people own the consoles they have due to brand loyalty which does have to do with exclusivity. But, as games become available on both consoles basically day one, people will go to what they trust and easily understand and navigate. That’s what I love about gaming, there are so many different viewpoints.

  • @Nnamz

@22:31 "2024 we had Concord and Astro"
We also had Helldivers 2 which completely dominated the gaming discourse for months, sold 10+ million copies, reviewed VERY well, and is still going strong on PC and PS5. Even if the only games they released were Helldivers 2 and Astro, having an insanely popular co-op shooter and the best reviewed, most awarded game of the year in the same calendar year isn't bad, especially when it's supposed to be an "off" year for PlayStation.

    • @UnnecessaryRambling

Good call, always forget to include Helldivers in the first party bucket, because they don’t own the team. But they do own the IP

I think for both consoles it's been a bit underwhelming, Xbox feel like they're about to ramp up properly with their games, and with PlayStation I feel that cancelling a bunch of their live service games has caused them to have less of a regular output of games this generation. 👍 - Chris

      @UnnecessaryRambling  17 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

100%. This generation actually could’ve been pretty stacked for PlayStation if they didn’t focus on the live service chase. I assume Bend, Blupoint, and ND would be close to releasing their game at this point. Crazy to think about that alternate timeline

Cant comment on the Xbox, only on the PS5. I use my PS5 for two things. Exclusives and Fighting games. For those two things, i feel like its worth it. As for the console itself, its much better than the ps4 performance wise. My PS4 sounded like a jet engine, and near the end of its life ran way worse. Id also like to mention the controller which i feel like is 1000% better than the ps4 one.

I really liked this talk between you two. Agree & disagree with some statements, but thats expected. What I would push back a little bit is Brandons statement, that Sony doesn‘t promote why you should buy a PS5. The first-party stuff is true. Its definitly managed worse than during the PS4-era. But the PS5 still sold almost 70million copies as of today. I would have liked hearing why you think so many people buy a PS5 & even a PS5 Pro, with the negatives you mentioned.
Regarding the question, which should you buy? For me the answer would always be the PS5, bc you can play the most games on that console (now even XBOX-games). Physical is still supported. Trophy-system is better than the achievment-sytem imo. Plus most people I know have a PS. I don‘t know anybody who owned a XBOX after the 360, but I‘m from europe, its more of a PlayStation-land anyway.

Appreciate the kind words homie! Your question is one I often ask myself, I can’t lie lol. I think some of that might be goodwill carried over from PS4, but even that doesn’t necessarily make sense to me. I think it could be that PlayStation has just become ubiquitous, in the same way it was in the PS2 era again… & maybe they think they don’t need first party output to carry the console anymore? So did they triple down on live service, to see if they could strike gold, since there’s no real competition in the high powered console market? I really don’t know honestly lol. But no doubt, you are 100% correct… they’re not struggling to sell consoles at all, which is mind blowing to me.

Every Xbox360 game that can run on the Xbox series x i own, so thats a plus for me, and they give those games a great quality boost.
I keep finding games from the Xbox One to series x that i dont see on Playstation all the time physically.
I had gamepass since 2021 before i started to just focus on my backlog in 2024 , but I've played the most indy, non AAA on the console. ( Gris, short hike, unpacking, power wash sim, etc ),
so to me, in my opinion,
xbox series X is a B- for me..
last year, I've played more playstation than ever, for both AAA games and lower.
But im also behind on certain games, so my enjoyment is higher because im just now experiencing games that actually dropped in later years.
I played horizon zero dawn in 2024 for the first time, which was almost my game of the year. I just got done playing Control for the first time this past week, i still got to play days gone, and Ghost of tsushima. Being able to play those games in the best quality possible without the terrible PS4 load times is a plus for me.
    I give PLAYSTATION a B+
Nintendo switch is my indy power house I've loved collecting for they automatically get a B from me, then you add the exclusive and i have the Nintendo online program i like to run through some of the classics.
So that hikes it up to a A- for the switch which is crazy for me because i stuck my nose up at it for years.
    Great video guys

Dude I don’t even own a Switch, and I would still have to give them a higher grade than Xbox & PlayStation. No doubt from an exclusive output standpoint, Nintendo dog walk’s PlayStation, and Xbox. Even if the games aren’t for me, it’s impossible to deny that. I think your grades are fair across the board. Me leaning negative isn’t due to my frustration with the tech at all, I just find the first party decision making to be so poor from both companies, but for very different reasons lol
People sleep on Horizon tho dude, gotta lmk what you think about Forbidden West. That’s legit one of my favorite games of the generation.

@UnnecessaryRambling i understand that. This era has lost something games use to mean more. Exclusives use to mean more in those earlier generations.
I remember getting a N64 just for 1 game. ( no mercy) and I picked up a ps3 just to play god of war 3. And other Exclusives. I think all companies have lost that passion imo but I'm sure everything will get back on track 💪🏾

I'm not exactly impressed by either console, but I always tend to give more love to PlayStation. Neither one have been fantastic but Sony just tends to put up the games I like better. We absolutely need the competition and we need more risk for big reward. Indies are definitely where it's at!

Yeah, I think we’re on track for one of the worst console generations of all time. Some fantastic games have released, no doubt. But most of those are available on last gen tech… being 4+ years into a console generation, and feeling like we’re just getting started is bizarre lol

As a privileged owner of PS5, PSVR 2, high-end PC, Switch, and Series X, I think most are surprised when I say I get by far the most use out of my Series X. These features are the reason:
    1. Multimedia use with apps/TV and most importantly the movie library. They continue to have awesome sales on digital movies, while PS5 basically axed all of that years ago. Dolby integration has always been smooth, as well.
    2. Play Series X games on Series X and continue on PC. Game Pass games are perfect for this.
    3. Backwards compatibility.
    4. Boosted old games that are not boosted on PS5, such as some Assassin’s Creed and LotR games.
That being said, I play with friends on PS5 mostly. I play some newer blockbusters on PC, such as Space Marine 2 and now I get to experience Rebirth later this week in full graphical glory.
My Switch collects a lot of dust, but I do enjoy it when I play it. If Switch 2 implements achievements and/or boosts games I’ll be there.
And BTW, I love PSVR 2 and find the hate to be pretty silly. RE4, GT7, Walkabout, and Tetris are some of my absolute favorite game experiences ever.

    • @UnnecessaryRambling

That’s a good point about the movie sales on Xbox , I actually bought all the X-men films recently on there for next to nothing. I honestly don’t have many complaints about either console from a functionality standpoint, I just think neither really feel like must own systems, even after 4+ years of being on the market, which is crazy to me.

@@mundanemorselsmundanemorse7028 you do present a lot of valid points, but I use my PC for multimedia since it is a powerhouse for that. I buy few movies or tv series and have never liked using my consoles for those purposes. Perhaps I’m a bit aged brain in that concept.

This console generation has been the most underwhelming in my lifetime and I've been playing games since the PS1 days. Xbox is giving up every bit of leverage they should have by basically giving away all of their should-be exclusives over to Playstation, which for me means there is basically no reason to own an Xbox. I only play physical games so Game Pass doesn't interest me at all and with barely any exclusives I have no reason to currently own an Xbox. For Playstation, I agree, they have bungled their first party releases even worse than Xbox. This push to live service has been such a colossal screw up that it will result in an entire console generation of barely any first party games. Ultimately, I still bought a PS5 because it has the most access to the most games, but Sony itself has played almost no role in encouraging me to buy their console. The people in charge of Playstation and Xbox should absolutely be replaced by people who better understand what players want. They honestly both just got so lucky that they are both screwing up pretty bad, because if only one of them was screwing up, it could have ended up being a total blow out disaster for them in comparison to the console that had their shit together.

    • @UnnecessaryRambling
      @UnnecessaryRambling  17 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

Could not agree more. Feels like if Microsoft didn’t purchase ABK, they could’ve made some massive moves to shift the console market this gen. Without that purchase, I don’t think they’d be forced to put all their first party games on PS5 & Switch. Imagine a scenario where next year Doom, Fable, South of Midnight, Avowed, & The Outer Worlds 2 are all Xbox exclusive…. I’m not saying they’d catch up to Sony, but they’d make serious momentum.

    • @TheDynastyWarrior13
      @TheDynastyWarrior13 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

@ I completely agree. Just speaking for myself, if all of those games were exclusive to Xbox I’d actually go buy an Xbox. I’m sure I wouldn’t be the only one enticed by an offering like that all in 1 year. Honestly at this point with maybe 2-3 years left in this console generation I’m just going to enjoy the games that come out and chalk this gen up for one giant misstep. I hope come next generation they try to use it as a clean slate with a better strategy. But hell man both Microsoft and Sony could really learn to take a page out of Nintendo’s playbook. They don’t chase trends, they create them. And they superserve their fans with the exact type of games they want. And Nintendo gets rewards by players for it. I know Playstation and Xbox are different beasts, but I still do feel like there are lessons to be learned there about holding onto your first party IPs, taking risks but in more calculated ways, and having a pretty damn good pace of first party releases that are designed to be crowd pleasers that actually get people to go out and buy your system.

    • @UnnecessaryRambling
      @UnnecessaryRambling  17 วันที่ผ่านมา

Dude, I think there are millions of people in your boat. Sure Doom, Avowed, Outer Worlds, Fable, etc wouldn’t convince 20 million players to buy a series x individually, but collectively?! Idk man… I could see those games alone bringing in a SWATH of people if they were all exclusive. Great point about Nintendo, spot on dude. They know what their fans want, and they provide exactly that
