I spent 2 years living and teaching English in South Korea -- it was one of the best decisions of my life! After getting hooked on the delicious food, vibrant life and modern culture of Seoul -- I was really curious to see what life is like North of the border...
So exactly 3 years ago, I took a trip to Pyongyang, North Korea for 3 days (I'm one of the last Americans to step foot on North Korean soil). I made a video there -- one of my first ever -- and it currently has over 17 million views.
But what is life really like in both Koreas? Are they more similar, or different? The answer is a little of both -- so join me in today's video as I compare and contrast North Korea with South Korea.
What are your thoughts? Have you ever been to either North or South Korea? Would love to hear from you in the comments below!

The whole trip was incredible, i wanted to go for years and one of the reasons was your video from the marathon :D I spent 7 nights and the trip was very intense, we saw the DMZ, the Mass Games, Wonsan and Kaesong cities with sleepovers, Mount Kumgang and bunch of other stuff. The trip was around 2000 euros and it's worth every penny! Definitely would go at least one more time some day.

I would like to visit the West Sea Islands, Dadohaehaesang national park (off the coast of Yeosu in Joella province), and the Dongdaemun midnight market in Seoul. I hope to stop off there on the way back from Japan when I go there! I'd have to improve my Korean though.
North Korea sounds interesting but dangerous, and I'm not keen on the idea of having a tour guide with me at all times.

Fun Fact: there are some North Korean defectors that want to come back because of deep they are in poverty since South Korea is notoriously known for high living cost that not everyone Can afford. North Korea also has GUARENTEED housing, healthcare and much more to ensure a good life for their citizens. South Korea does non of which, which is why suicide rates are so high in South Korea. Glory to the democratic peoples Republic of Korea! 🇰🇵

2:08 It is true that there are a lot of plastic surgeries in South Korea, but that doesn't mean Koreans are doing plastic surgeries a lot. Many customers are from outside of Korea, mostly from China and Southeast Asian countries. I think plastic surgery and "dog meat" problems are too exaggerated in Western countries. South Koreans almost do not eat dog meats too. They only ate it when they were poor and had nothing to eat in 1960s.
