Great video Scott, As a student in León, I would always go your nearest pulpería and with 15 cords I would manage to get already made 1/2 lb of red beans with another 10, I would accommodate some cheese an or rice That my friend in less than a $1 dollar, is gallo pinto for an entire set of hungry piranhas( my friend and myself) and still have leftover 😂😂😂😂😂🎉 You could buy local meat cuts and other things It’s just a whole different world down in Nicaragua
Jaja. You'll probably want to spend more, but not necessarily a lot more. $350 gets you a big place (3 bedrooms+) in a gated community kind of thing. When we used to look for staff we were finding downtown places like nice new apartments for $200/mo that were 2 bedroom, 1 bath walking distance to everything. Or even in San Juan del Sur we had found a full three bedroom house for $260/mo!
With unfurnished houses, I guess the two things we’d need to buy would be a refrigerator and a mattress. Scott, can you give us a ballpark cost of a fridge and say a queen mattress or a twin ? Great video ! We should be able to give you more cost examples in Matagalpa very soon ! ETA is Feb 25th ! Our first 16 months we hope to live frugally since we won’t have an income. We are guesstimating our total costs will be around $1200-$1300/month. That is living in downtown Matagalpa and walking everywhere. We have a small advantage with Lidia being a Nica…and a world class wheeler dealer. 😃 Thx Scott !
@@ScottAlanMillerVlog Thanks ! Trying to figure out if we want furnished or not. Seems like we could furnish something fairly inexpensively once we find something for a year
It REALLY depends on you and how you want to spend your money. Could you survive on $1000/mo? Yes, you'd make it. But what kind of house do you want, how close to activities, on the beach?, how often do you want to eat out, what kind of restaurants, do you want to do other activities? There are so many variables. But sub $1K budgets can be done.
Thank you so much for this video. I was budgeting $2000/mo, good to know that it'll probably be a lot less. Still 3 to 5 years till I can make a move though. If it weren't for certain obligations I'd be on a plane today. So ready to leave the States. I'm trying to plan a trip this summer with my boyfriend, how do you purchase your plane tickets? Straight from the airlines or third party like Expedia, etc. The price range I'm seeing is $500 -$600 per person, round trip. Thanks in advance
Typically I purchase direct. There are only a couple of airlines coming here so it doesn't take much to check their prices manually. $2,000/mo is EASY to live on. That's a very comfortable number for sure.
Local currency is Cordoba and is C$36 = $1 USD. Cord is written with C$ and USD is written with $. So given how dramatically different the currencies are, you can basically always tell which it is just from the amount, even if the symbol is missing or wrong. So if rent is in the $100 - $400 range, that has to be USD. If that were in local currency it would make rent as long as $3 - $11 / month. :)
Most large transactions (housing, cars, legal fees) are paid in US dolars or at least stated in US currency. Most normal transactions, like the grocery store, restaurant, gas station, etc. is in local currency, Cordoba.
ACtually the stats say that is exactly how to lose views. The longer the videos, the more views AND the more view time. I thought the same thing, but in A/B tests, shorter videos get a lot less interest.

Just want to say that the length of your videos are just fine. I LOVE the details & off the path topics. Terseness always irked me.
Glad you like them!
I coughed up grass too, when I heard you say $200 dollars a month! Wow! 😆

I'm from US. Have lived in Nicaragua for 12 years. A person or a couple can live well on $2000 a month. Takes this guy half an hour to say that.
you can't just give away the secret in a single sentence! Who will watch?
Great prog.....if I live in Nic for good, how much money will I need monthly? How much an affordable house costs? Cheers

Awesome!
What a great informative video. 🙂👍🏻
Thanks!
I love your content so much bro
Thank you!
OMG was at 23 bar for hours and Ana and I drank "a few" and it was only 500 cord. $13.69
A couple of beers in the USA would be more than that!
Is the rent in US or their money. I remember you saying it’s really hot in Leon March and April. What about may

My dad wants to go live there for 6 months, he is 73 can he survive? He managed to do it in Liberia for 3months by himself.
Depends on your dad, but if you can do Liberia you can definitely do Nicaragua.
How flexible are landlords regarding the number of months you can rent?
Not at all.
Have you heard anything about when Starlink will come to Nicaragua?
No, the last thing that they said was 2022. Not a peep since we paid for our unit in early 2021.
I have the feeling that Starlink may be a little short on funds these days and may not be up to providing the services that they were planning to do.
I'm sorry to be rude, your videos could be 5 minutes not 30 mins to 60. if you want views get right to the point

You ramble to much and not talk on the topic , it’s annoying . Get to the point of your topic please .
I know, rambling is kind of my MO.
