This came out during the summer, and it is pure summer bop. Which is why it exists. You should look up the version they did with Megan Thee Stallion and watch the dance break that 3J (J-Hope, Jimin. Jungkook) did to her verse. It is stunning.
Do I recommend it to friends who want to get into BTS? No. Is the majority of their catalog more moving and exciting to me? Yes. Do I know now that J-Hope can pull off any look they throw at him and stil look like a damn supermodel? Yes. Is Unicorn CEO one of my favorite looks for Jimin? Also, yes.

We love the song and it’s super catchy. But you’re right. One of the biggest complaints from army is that the English songs don’t have their soul like their Korean songs. It’s why we try to tell people to not start with their English songs. I myself really like the English songs but i LOOOOOOOOVE Korean ones

i love that you know this is exactly what they wanted it to be and excelled at what it was meant for. it's fun and cute and poppy and feel good and exactly perfect for that vein. however we all know bts is so much more than this, so we don't mind it too much.

Dynamite, Permission to Dance, and Butter were just to uplift ARMY and people during the C0vid times. They were supposed to do one last tour after On was released and then go to the military but everything got shut down. These 3 tracks were just for fun. I love & appreciate these songs.

The song is mostly writen by others, but RM insisted on participating in it, so he is definetly the one responsible for the line "Got ARMY right behind us when we say so" and is in fact the only member credited on the writing of this song. I'm not sure who wrote Suga and JHope's verses but neither are credited. On the Megan Thee Stallion Remix she is also credited for her own verse.
BTW....OH IF YOU ONLY KNEW how hard Megan fought to get her remix version out....

I know armys are harsh on bts' English songs because they don't represent what bts are musically, yet they're the most well known songs and people see them first and assume that bts are just another generic pop group. BUT, I actually love them and I think they DO have meaning and a purpose in bts' catalogue and they DO show what kind of artists bts are.
BTS released Dynamite, Butter and Permission to Dance in the midst of the pandemic, they made them because they wanted to cheer up armys all around the world.
They wanted them to be in English so everyone could sing along to them and they made the choreography easier so people could dance with them. They're pop-y and happy because bts wanted to give as many people as possible a break from the grief and devastation the pandemic brought with it. And I think that is a look into what kind of artists bts are, because their music always has a purpose and message and they think of their fans first and foremost and want to do good in this world, and their English trilogy showcases that.
And even for bts they said that it was very needed for them as well, because it cheered them up too.
Idk I just feel like their English songs get a lot of unjustified hate because they do fit into the mainstream pop category and a lot of bts fans don't like that and/or get defensive when bts are categorized into being only that. But that doesn't mean that they aren't meaningful or that they're horrible.
Honestly my take is that if you hate butter/dynamite/ptd you might just hate happiness lmao (kidding... maybe)

This is 100% a pop song made for Western/American radio and audience. It is a great bop. What makes me angry is that many American reactors and entertainment media look down their noses because it is pop. But these Americans won't listen to Korean language music because God forbid they read the closed captions. I think it is a fun song. I think it is interesting that 6 of the 7 members' solo work was not pitched to American " standards" . JK's album was for Western taste...100%. The song writers and producers were all American or British. Jk was very successful but many of the reviewers gave half assed snarky reviews. ARMYS came through for him.

This is a well made pop song. if you weren't a bts fan and you heard this, you would probably bop your head because it's catchy. But it is quite a stereotypical pop song. and it won't turn people into fans. It might draw your attention to see what else they have, but you wouldn't become a fan with this song or the other 2 english songs.
with that said, i heard of dynamite and butter when i first got into bts, and i equated bts to those types of songs. your typical poppy boy band. nothing special. then i got to know their discography and then changed my mind.. I already listened to the 3 pop english songs a trillion times. Although they are NOT my favourite BTS songs, i have begun to appreciate them for what they are. There was even one day when permission to dance started to play on my youtube playlist, and i just suddenly stopped what i was doing and really sat down and watched the video. it actually made me emotional even though i heard it a bajillion times. that's kinda crazy
I guess if their whole discography was this type of music, i wouldn't have become a fan. But because they do so many different genres and experiments so much, i'm now ok and appreciate their english songs too. Don't forget, those songs were done during covid when BTS wanted to cheer up Army....and i think those songs served that purpose perfectly. do i seek out these 3 songs in their discography? no....but do i get excited when i'm out and about and i hear it played? absolutely! lol

Please do not hesitate to give your honest opinion. Don't worry about uncalled for backlash you may get, because people need to understand respectful criticism and personal opinion. As a hard-core ARMY this is not a good song to me. Sure it's catchy and it makes you dance, but you are right, it's too formulaic, especially compared to the many great songs in their discography. It drives me crazy that this is one of their most popular songs, like what is wrong with this fandom that we can't be doing more for all of their other masterfully created music.

    • @Jurnalist_
      @Jurnalist_  หลายเดือนก่อน +10

Thank you for this comment. I will say though that this songs popularity is only bolstered by army but its numbers are enhanced due to the public reception. That’s why there is a popularity disparity in this song and ones we know to be better musically. On one hand that’s a great thing but as a fan we hate to see the lesser songs in our opinion be the ones with the most visibility. But that’s kind of the game sadly. You must bait the waters to then turn a music tourist into a resident.

i love them because it was a fun cute era when everywhere else was pain from the pandemic but its a very annoying and bitterness bts AND army have because no one paid attention to them prior like idk if you got to black swan yet but when you do youll see they ignored that for dynamite both released in the SAME year.
like the industry people majority ignored them until they released English songs not written by them or not fully written by them. in the contents released after the success of dynamite and butter you can just tell theyre happy and grateful but also bitter and annoyed and they realized after that they still weren't getting respected or considered in the club like a kid who gives everyone cookies but isnt allowed to sit with the rest and they ignore him. thats how it felt and still feels. so whilebit was happy and they were grateful you could tell they probably wont do it again to appeal but rather if they like it fr example jimins new song. it can be considered a similar category but it doesn't feel like butter or dynamite did.
butter and dynamite felt like bts saying to army hey im gonna try something follow my lead it being half successful half not.
successful in making people happy and dance but not in getting into the club. so they walk back happy but sigh on the walk home with army and army pats their back like screw em.
genuinely how it felt. which is why they didn't even bother promotions in the west after as a group. and as solos mostly went to their comfort places besides jhope and jk they were very daring with lollapalooza, radio station interviews and time square.😂
but the rest stayed in their comfort zones and i think the industry could tell they were basically saying fck off.
im very curious to what will happen when they come back as a group and i hope they take their solo albums energies and put them in a group album especially rap line rpwp, d day, jitb directly as possible dissing people on a group title track would be insane. i know mic drop exists but i hope they go harder and more obvious only armys really knew who they were dissing in mic drop but i want it to be obvious for people who never heard them before and dont know nothing to be able to catch on.
    i want chaos😂

Let's not forget that they had planned for a tour and then solo projects and military, so once the pandemic came and the tour cancelled they were already working on their solo albums. But they were receiving songs from outside and they said let's do one... As Dynamite blew up the most logical thing to do was to ride the wave, but they took the time to make their most hands on album, BE. But sure if the US market accepts only one thing from a group of boys... Sure make a bubbly thing , have some fun... (Who can, I think RM didn't have too much fun , even if he was very much about having a number one, I'm sure he would have preferred it to be with one of their songs, I would guess not only him)

There has been so much hate on Butter, Dynamite & Permission to Dance bc people complain that it's too westernised and that it takes away from BTS' original vibe and the meaningful lyrics they are known for. For me personally, I like these songs because it just adds to their versatility. It shows that they can deliver both songs with deeper meanings and more substance and lighter songs with a bit less depth. Moreover, these songs were released during the pandemic and the whole objective of it was to cheer people, especially ARMY, up during those hard times. Everyone shared feelings of depression due to the isolation and the world literally being put on hold so, with these songs, BTS just wanted to spread some positivity and they sure succeeded at that. The songs still slap.
BTS has a discography of 300+ songs and people are hating on them for having 3 English songs like this is really weird to me. They're acting as if the OG BTS is no longer there while they still have newer songs that bring out the classic BTS vibe (e.g. Dis-ease, Run BTS, Telepathy) Also, BTS is known for trying out many different genres and that's one of the things I love most about them. For nearly every genre you're interested in, there is at least 1 BTS song, if not more.

I as an army who loves these guys with all my heart, accept their english speaking pop songs for the sake of them putting out songs to cheer people up during covid, but I'm highkey mad this is what most of America know them for, because these were not meant to be taken seriously, and they are cheesy in comparison to their regular discography. I support because I love them, and I get happy when I hear these songs in grocery stores or on the local radio, but I hate PTD, Dynamite, and Butter sound-wise. Love the performance, hate the sound.

You are correct sir. This is never the song ARMYs recommend to get into BTS. Yes it is formulaic. How and ever this song is a bop. You are trippin a 6?!?! 9 weeks at number 1 everywhere.

Yeah butter, dynamite and permission to dance were writtwn by american writers.
Except for that small rap section in butter which was written by RM.
You are right. No army is gonna recommend these 3 songs to a first time listener to bts especially not critics.
If they do, they prolly a hater.
But to an already army? These are fun bops for the summer. And also slightly symbolic in the sense it shows bts can be doing anything they want and singing in any language no problems.
All three of these songs did go number 1 in the US. So it also proves that that american gp audience be eating up english pop music not realising that koreans sang it. It just has to be in english for them.
Will they give the same type of attention to a korean track written by bts? No they won't.
For life goes on to get to number 1 it took massive army energy.

O.K. Im just goona say it....I liked this song when it came out, but living in the states the only place I ever heard it played was in Walmart!!! Dynamite, too! Now when they were nominated for a Grammy, tuned into watch. Didn't know they were performing....JK an Hobi had just a couple days before recovered from Covid....I wasnt expecting the novel performance. Clever....Hobi's weakness was showing and he almost fell, and JK tripped on the stairs....they had 6 performances with PTD coming up in Vegas. But those "musicians", their peers, were standing up and clapping and singing along. A standing Ovation! For just 2 min., people forgot to be stuffy at the Grammys and were having a good time! So even though they went out on a limb, and did a western produced pop song, it was their delivery that did it. Thats who they are....they draw you in with all that amazing talent! And you know... V just might eat a cucumber sandwich!!!😊

In "Dynamite" they didn't have part in writting, but tgey saud when they got song they wrote lyrics in korean and tried to song them ans they saud it didn't sound hiw they wanted so they go back to english lyrics.
With "Butter" all from Suga part was RM writting, they had lityle competition for rap lyrics all rappers write tgeur part and then they choosen lyrics, Suga said it was ro hard to write for him in english, that is one thing to use words here and there but to write all in english full verse a "no", so RM lyrics were used. But yes there were writers.
It is not first time, like we know there are songs that they do cosmetic changes here and there but are written by another people, it is very small number but they exists, and that's ok too.

"not even from Wisconsin" is hilarious
It really is crazy in hindsight that MOTS7 and touring that album was supposed to be it before enlistment. But COVID and the extension of their enlistment period gave time for Dynamite and Butter, which made them more mainstream in the US and almost doubled ARMY.
But echoing everyone else, Dynamite and Butter are fun songs, and without the Korean in them, the only ones that could get radio. But no ARMY is going to use them to introduce the group.

The english songs I would confidently recommend IF that is the type of music the one I am recommending to likes. I would never steer a pophead to Cyphers first. No matter how good the hiphop songs are, it won't land if I know the person I am recommending it to only likes pop. I would have to give them something like this first.

I don't know if any of the rappers wrote their own verses in 'Butter' - only RM is fluent enough to do so. I do know that RM suggested to the writers to add the final rap verse, and where to add it (jhope's verses) because he RM told us that info in the VLive after it was released. I think he got a writer's credit for that
I'm surprised you started so early in your group discography exploration with an English song. While fun bops, they are definitely not anywhere near the top of ARMYs favorite songs because they are not BTS-written songs - though their fantastic performances of Butter, PTD, and Dynamite elevate those songs far above other western-style pop music like them! But we truly love their native-language songs much, much more in general

It’s not my favorite but it was a moment and has some of my favorite performances. This came out during the pandemic when it seemed like it would never end so, it really was a welcome break to what was happening at the time. I do prefer the music they write but I understand why they tried this at time that they did. They were trying to break down certain barriers among other things. It Got the entire music industry upset when it went number 1 for 10 weeks. People were mad, mad and so I have a certain pride for this song.

It is great song for what it is. So like you said obiective look it is solit 9, fun boob. I don't mind it. When it comes up it is always good vibe.
But it isn't song to recommend to ger to know BTS this is song to listen when you know them and know tgem better.
I think the 3 of english songs they made were needed, not only for people bc of the times they were made, but I also think for them and not only to give them this light fun time, but bc I think they saw differnce in popularity bc something was made for mainstream media, and it was its own experience.

The English songs are the bottom of my list, but that is the crap America radio will play. I never would suggest the English songs if I was introducing BTS to someone, this is too generic for what BTS typically would do.
