The squonk is of a very retiring disposition, generally traveling about at twilight and dusk. Because of its misfitting skin, which is covered with warts and moles, it is always unhappy...Hunters who are good at tracking are able to follow a squonk by its tear-stained trail, for the animal weeps constantly. When cornered and escape seems impossible, or when surprised and frightened, it may even dissolve itself in tears. - William T. Cox, "The Squonk", Fearsome Creatures of the Lumberwoods (1910)
YAY I backed this project. There’s an option to add on a little book/guide and I did that! Thanks for sharing this…and again the readings were so on target for me. 🌺
Interesting fact that nobody but my nerdy self cares about lol. The pokemon Sableye is based of the Hopkinsville Goblin and I'm so fascinated by both of them.
At one point I lived only about 30 minutes from Hopkinsville KY, even went to the community college there. However I never heard of the Hopkinsville Goblins until after I moved away. Was so bummed.
What a cute deck! I think I'll have to pick this one up. :) Shuck, or as I know it, Black Shuck, is a ghostly black dog of moor lands or similar that heralds the death of children OR protects women late at night on their way home from other predators. Fascinating cryptid!
I have backed this and the watercolour art reminded me of my Unfolding Path tarot. I know weird pairing lol but wondering if Shadowland tarot would pair well. Curious to know, Lisa, what you were planning as pairing for Lil Cryptid?
This deck is adorable and they give you several keywords for each card. That’s awesome! I can’t decide if I want to back this or buy it when it comes out. I don’t have any knowledge of cryptids for you. I didn’t even know what a cryptid was until you told us! I definitely think they have a winner here. 💜💜💜
OMG!! Too cute! I had no intention of buy a deck so soon; I have three coming. Then, I saw this review and BAM; a new kickstarter backed. Looking forward to the deck. Thanks for the review.
I really wish I could afford this one. To pair with the Shadowlands Tarot. Unfortunately with exchange rate and postage to Australia it's just too much for a 36 card deck. 😭
The three readings definitely spoke to me. I’ve been in a slump since somewhere around last November and I’ve been doing less as less with tarot (or anything else really) as time goes on, even with new meds. I think I need to rewind and screenshot all three readings for inspiration.
Hmm... it might be difference once their campaign is done - some creators have an easier time doing overseas shipping option through providers like Etsy that take care of the VAT and such!
Readings 1 and 3 called me out bull's eye. I know pile 1 is very universal but still so on point. And I know exactly Whom pile 3 is about, I really hope my stubborness doesn't offend Her too much...
La Llorona (pronounced Your-own-ah) is what Mexican parents (in my own experience) use to keep their kids in line. The story varies, but either her children drown or she drowns them to be with a man she wants and the river carries them away and now she roams the earth looking for children to replace them. So caution is a great word for the card! Edit: La Llorona means The Weeping Woman
I think it is not the font that makes it a bit hard to read the titles, I think it is the light color that sometimes doesn't show up well against the lighter backgrounds
Cryptids are my thing, so I'll throw a bit of what I know about a few of the ones here.. Mothman: said to be either a warning before something bad or the harbinger of bad things, he was sighted overhead before the Silver Bridge collapsed in Point Pleasant, WV. (I personally think he's a warning, like "hey get outta the way" kinda thing. Jersey Devil: one of the origin stories is that a woman in a little house in the woods of NJ birthed her 13th baby. When she did, it changed shape into this massive beast and took off. Sightings happen still today. A plausible explanation is that of the hammer-headed bat of Africa, with a wingspan of 38 inches and a body length of 10 inches, could have stolen away on cargo ships bringing fruit to America, as it's a fruit bat. Nessie: the phase keyword for her is really interesting, and I think it points to a group that believes Nessie may be part of a time slip. A prehistoric creature entering a portal of sorts into modern time and then returning back to its proper time period. To think of that as possible though it takes some Marvel level space and time folding. The yeti and skunk ape are variations of Bigfoot. The yeti is from up north in Russia, Canada, Alaska, all that. And tthe skunk ape from the southeast US, namely Florida, where underground dens have methane gas in them from the swamps. Skunk apes are said to live in old alligator dens that- yep- also have that gas in it. Smells like rotten eggs.
Lol. Same, since some are filmed in the area of the PNW/WA where I live. If you enjoy reading, I recommend Devolution by Max Brooks (author of World War Z). It's based around Mt Ranier, which I can see from my house.....not sure i would go camping out there. 😆
La Llorona = from Women who run with the Wolves, by Clarissa Pinkola Estes, i bet that's where Lisa Squonk though... 😊 PS i think cryptids are really 'apparitions' so like part myth, part actual sightings. I'm thinking now of the Irish howling spirit on the roof, cripes - can't remember its name - - - There it is! Banshee
I love this deck! I backed it immediately! It kind of reminds me of the adorabysmal oracle, but definitely a different vibe. Thanks for sharing this with us.
Lisa, thank you for making my day better. I have been suffering from Hyperemesis Gravidarum. LIfe has been so hard. I watch your channel because it's also my save space. Thanks so much.
Both. They should make it clear in the campaign. I have backed some where add-ons/rewards were included and some where it unlocked additional things for purchase. I haven't looked at this particular campaign though. If you are a backer you are able to ask questions in the comment section, or even if you are not a backer you may still be able to message the creator directly, I haven't backed anything in a while so I don't remember exactly 🙂

Actually, my kiddo who is 8 saw it and proclaimed "THAT LOOKS LIKE SABLEYE!!!"
@@TempestGetchell Lapras is also based off of nessie. I just love the cryptid based pokemon. I need more
@@emeraldfern6135 that one's not surprising lol
I care! I worked hard to get my Sableye 💖 Thanks for the info ✨

So happy to see Momo! I'm from Missouri, where he lurks!
This is SOOOOO CUTE! MY KIND OF ADORABLE. I might need to collect decks and things like this
OMG IT HAS GEF!! I love Gef. He's known as the talking mongoose or the Dalby Spook. I think I have to get this

This deck is amazing I just got 4 of them with guide books, what a great xmas gift to share with everyone
Damn... I would love to have one but 80€ witjout even the VAT fees and probably customs, for a little 38 cards deck ? ToT I just can't justify that
I backed this a few days ago - so excited! Thanks for doing a preview Lisa! 💕💕
Oo, the guidebook sounds lush! But no price for shipping to Europe, so... I wish they had something on pdf like some creators do

So cute!! I’m going to follow the kickstarter and think on it more, but I’m 80% sold.
I've been looking for a good keyword oracle with art I like and I think this is it. It's so adorable
